The Scheming Ex-Husband's Courtship-Chapter 663 - 576 How Could I Waste
Nan Zhan made a phone call to Helan Ying before arriving at the Nan Family home.
Her tone was normal as she asked him when he had returned to Aus City,
"Didn’t you say you needed to see me? Coincidentally, I need to see you too, let’s meet at G.O.D.," Nan Zhan hung up the phone, already imagining Helan Ying frantically making arrangements.
But unfortunately for her, he was already at the doorstep of the Nan Family at G.O.D.
Upon entering the house, Nan Zhan saw a pair of ladies’ leather shoes placed at the entrance, a standard design,
Nan Zhan curled his lips in a smile and quickly walked upstairs.
Ascending the staircase, he saw Helan Ying hurrying out from a room, their eyes collided as she came up, a hint of panic fleeting through hers. However, Dean He was not one to show signs of panic; she had been tempered and hardened by many experiences.
Helan Ying quickly regained her composure, even wearing a gentle smile: "You’re back."
Standing in front of her, Nan Zhan’s expression was indifferent, revealing no depth, "Yes, I’m back."
"Was everything smooth?"
"Not bad."
"Come downstairs, let’s talk about that case."
Helan Ying moved to go down first, but Nan Zhan stood still, motionless.
Helan Ying: "Is something wrong?"
Nan Zhan walked straight to the room on the far right and, under Helan Ying’s slightly panicked gaze, pushed the door open.
Zhengzheng was sitting amidst a pile of toys, deep in thought. Seeing the tall and familiar figure standing in the doorway, solid as a mountain,
He lifted his little mouth and smiled.
Good, he arrived not a moment too late.
Helan Ying was momentarily stunned before calmly walking over, not expecting Nan Zhan’s purpose to be so clear-cut, coming directly for Jian Zheng.
What puzzled her was that she had been meticulous, the nanny had been temporarily isolated from contacting the outside, and she left no trace in Jian Si’s rental house. She didn’t understand which part had been compromised that allowed Nan Zhan to find them so quickly.
Helan Ying glanced at the calm-faced Zhengzheng, his round and plump cheeks displayed a wisdom uncharacteristic of his age.
She suddenly realized – it was this child who had led Nan Zhan here. Despite Helan Ying’s sharpness, she failed to notice when he had left any clues behind.
At that time, he shouldn’t have known who she was.
Yet, she had truly underestimated the child. He had guessed her identity upon seeing her and therefore left a message for Nan Zhan and Jian Si.
Nan Zhan strode over and crouched in front of him: "Have you had enough fun? Let’s go home."
"Okay, I’ve been bored for a long time." Zhengzheng stood up from the pile of toys and turned to Helan Ying, whose face was clearly turning ashen, saying, "Thank you for your hospitality."
Helan Ying was so choked by this remark that she remained silent.
As the father and son walked out one after the other, she finally couldn’t restrain herself and called out to Nan Zhan, "Zhan, let’s talk."
"Sure, I was intending to do so," Nan Zhan instructed Zhengzheng to wait for him downstairs as he and Helan Ying entered the study.
Closing the door, Helan Ying’s face turned cold and angry: "What is the meaning of this—Zhengzheng is my grandson, don’t I have the right to spend time alone with him?"
"Mom, of course you can see your grandson, but shouldn’t you notify the child’s mother in advance? Taking him away without saying a word, it borders on kidnapping."
"Kidnapping?
"But the truth is, you have no intention of returning Zhengzheng to Jian Si."
Helan Ying scoffed, "Why should a woman as poor and insignificant as her raise our Nan Family’s grandson? I’ve seen where she lives; her entire house isn’t even as big as one of our study rooms. Do you really want Zhengzheng to grow up in such an environment? To have a child in those conditions? Not only that, she has no permanent residence, no stable job, and moreover, her uncle is a transgender murderer, her best friend is a promiscuous social butterfly. How could such a woman be worthy of our Nan Family’s lineage? How could she possibly raise our Nan Family’s grandson?"
Helan Ying spoke vehemently, her delicate makeup slightly contorted. For Nan Family to have a birth mother like a social butterfly was a great disgrace, but since Zhengzheng also carried half of Nan Zhan’s blood, she had no choice but to try and accept him.
Nan Zhan said coldly, "This is just your prejudice towards her, merely based on appearance. To know what kind of person she really is can’t be ascertained just by having someone look into her. I’m taking Zhengzheng with me; he’s definitely not going to live with you."
"Nan Zhan," Helan Ying trembled with anger, "If you insist on this, we’ll have to settle it in court."
Without turning his head, Nan Zhan’s voice carried the distinctive pride of the Nan family, "We shall see."
~
Jian Si didn’t know how Nan Zhan had settled the matter, but seeing Zhengzheng return safe and sound, she excitedly hugged her son and squeezed him tight in her arms.
It was such a relief; her Zhengzheng was safe and unharmed. If anything had happened to him, she would no longer have the desire to live.
Holding Zhengzheng’s small face in her hands, Jian Si cried and laughed, "You scared me to death."
Zhengzheng’s face was pinched like putty, out of shape, and though he wasn’t too happy about it, he still put up with her.
"Zhengzheng, weren’t you afraid that I wouldn’t be able to crack the information on the Rubik’s Cube?" After laughing, Jian Si expressed her dissatisfaction, as she didn’t understand the cube at all; it was a huge challenge he had set for her.
Zhengzheng rubbed his sore face, "That wasn’t left for you."
Jian Si: "..."
"I believed you would call my real dad."
Jian Si felt very frustrated; it seemed her intelligence had always been looked down upon by this father and son duo, which was really embarrassing.
Luckily, Nan Zhan had hurried off after delivering the child, otherwise, she would have been relentlessly mocked by them.
"My real grandmother is not easy to deal with." Sitting in the dining chair, Zhengzheng ate the grapes Jian Si had peeled for him, "She won’t let this go."
Of course, Jian Si knew that. She had only met Helan Ying once, but Helan Ying’s dominance was imprinted in her memory like a branding iron. She was high and mighty, like a queen, instilling timidness in Jian Si even before she approached.
"No matter who it is, I won’t let them take you away from me." Jian Si hugged Zhengzheng’s shoulders, "If they want to take you, it’ll be over my dead body."
Zhengzheng laughed and peeled a grape, putting it into her mouth, "Are all women as melodramatic as you? Don’t worry, I won’t leave you either."
"Saying I’m melodramatic, you’re pretty melodramatic yourself." Jian Si spoke with disdain.
~
On the morning when Jian Si returned to work at the law firm, she packed two lunch boxes,
Jian Si was now using the lunch box Zhengzheng had used in kindergarten, decorated with cartoon characters.
"How did you know he likes blue?" Jian Si no longer avoided mentioning it in front of Zhengzheng; after all, with his sharp eyes, even if she said nothing, he would have noticed.
"Don’t you know?"
~
Nan Zhan almost teared up from the sting of wasabi, quickly grabbing the water on the table and gulping down more than half a glass.
Looking at Jian Si across him, she seemed nonchalant, slowly chewing on her rice ball. He felt he had been set up.
It was rare for the distinguished attorney Nan to be trapped, and while Jian Si had managed to feign composure at first, now she couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
"Does it burn?" Her smile shone even brighter, like a little school kid successful in their mischief.
He admitted frankly, "It burns."
"But mine isn’t spicy at all."
After the meal, Jian Si went to wash the lunch boxes, but Nan Zhan suddenly stopped her, "Let me wash the lunch boxes for you, will that increase your good impression of me?"
