The Secret Obsession of the CEO-Chapter 204: About The Break
"You mean it?" Rory asked.
She could see that. But this is something that was troubling her for so long and she didn’t want to confirm it. She observed his eyes to look for any sign of distress. She feared that he might be hiding his true feelings for her sake.
"I do," Liam held her hand.
"Okay..." Rory nodded. He means it. "And I went to the basement because I heard Sidney. She was breaking the wine bottles after she somehow loosened her tie... And I saw...it... the dead baby..." she gulped and Liam held her hand.
"It was terrible. I’d rather forget that... He came and he...He called her pig and she started to hurt herself just because he looked at her. He trained her like that probably... She had gone through a lot... I can’t even get very mad at Sidney because..." Rory then rolled her eyes remembering the meeting with Sidney.
"Never mind. I am not going to pity her," she shrugged, and Liam chuckled.
"And down there, he..." she hesitated to speak further. And she felt Liam’s hold on her hand tighten. She didn’t know if he is holding her hand to support her or if he was tensed. His hands were sweaty.
"Do you want to know what happened in the basement, Liam? Should I go through the details?" she asked.
Liam took in a deep breath. "Will it help you if you talk to me about it?" he asked.
Rory bit her lips and bowed her head. "I’ve talked to my therapist. And I am dealing with it little by little. I’ve accepted what happened there. It was hard for me to even say that it was not my fault one hundred percent. I still think that I am to blame even a bit. But it makes sense that... he... he was planning on doing that to me whether I went to him or not. He stalked me for that reason... So..."
Liam was silently listening. She met his eyes. "I don’t think that I have to talk about it more. I understand what happened there and I am coming to terms with it. I am grateful that it didn’t go far. I just escaped with some scratches and broken bones. Metal scars too, I’m afraid... But I was lucky...Luckier than the other women who were ruined by that monster...And... I don’t think that you need to know every little detail of what happened to me there..." she said.
She hoped her answer does not anger him. He asked her if it would help her recovery. It won’t change anything for her. But...
"But for the sake of our relationship, I will tell you if you want to know. It was not something that affected me. It was something that could affect our relationship and..." She looked at him for his reply. He didn’t have much change in his expression. Except she saw a smile hanging by the corner of his lips.
"I don’t have to know, Cherry," he shook his head. "I had time to think about it too. I wanted you to be open about it, but when I thought if I want to know every detail... No, I don’t. All I know is, that obsessed monster tried to take you by force and he hurt you. That’s all I need to know too."
"He failed. He failed to get what he wanted. I want you to know that." Rory added.
"I know, I know..." Liam held her hand. He knows that. The doctor reports gave him so much relief. He was so relieved that there were higher hopes for her recovery. "He never succeeded," he added. She had a hard time coming to terms with that. She even called him Ellie’s brother.
Rory nodded. "Yeah. He never succeeded. I’ve only been with the man I wanted to be with," she said. As she said that her eyes watered. It’s the truth. She had accepted that. It was hard. And speaking it out, liberated her.
"Yeah..." Liam smiled. He wanted to kiss her. She’s playing a very foul game. She’s saying all these wonderful things and yet he cannot touch her. He didn’t find that fair.
"You can hug me if you want..." Rory said.
Sudden movements startle her making her thoughts wander where she doesn’t want them to. But if she is expecting it, she can accept a hug.
Liam didn’t wait much longer. He hugged her and as if that was not enough, he lifted her and placed her on his lap.
"You are getting stronger..." Rory rested her head on his shoulder. She didn’t shy away from checking out his chest. He never was pudgy, but lately he is getting more muscular.
She loved that.
"I want to run laps carrying you on my back one day," Liam chuckled. He couldn’t help but kiss her hair. She wouldn’t feel it anyway.
Or so he thought.
Rory smiled feeling the small flutter in her hair. She knew he couldn’t resist kissing her. "Fizzy," she called him. "I will ask you this one more time just to be sure. I am not nagging, alright?" she asked. She tried to get out of his hold, but he wrapped his strong arms around her shoulders to keep her in his embrace.
"Ask away, my queen," he said. She smelled so good. It was so familiar and titillating. He didn’t want to go further though. He was happy about this intimacy after a very long time. It was like an oasis in a desert.
"So... is it okay between us? We... that night... we don’t have to bring that up that basement again between us, right?" she asked. "If you want to say something you can. I’ll clear any doubt~"
"No need," he gently rocked her in his embrace. "You should put on some more weight... And, no, I won’t bring that night up in any..." he paused. He could sense that her palms were cold. She must be afraid of something.
When she is talking about that night... Ah!
It hit him.
"I hurt you so much by my mindless words in the hospital after Ellie’s birth, didn’t I?" he let out a sigh.
Rory shook his head and looked at him. "I am not trying to force you to feel guilty, Fizzy. I know I was not supposed to hear that and... It’s just... I mind your words a lot, Fizzy... I can’t explain why, but..."
"I know," Liam hugged her again. She gave him permission to hug her, and he will use it to the full extent. "It’s because you love me."
Rory stayed in his embrace. He was right. She doesn’t care what people she doesn’t care about say. But when it comes to the people she loves, it is different. Liam is the one she loves the most. And so, his words hurt the most.
And his words give her the utmost happiness too. Just like right now.
"I do... And you made me so happy today, Fizzy... It was like a weight got lifted from my chest. I can breathe freely now..." she closed her eyes to listen to his heartbeat.
His heart was racing. It made her smile.
"Am I too heavy to carry, Fizzy?" she asked with a sarcastic tone. "Your heart is beating so fast as if you’ve run a marathon!"
Liam snorted and said nothing. She can make fun of him all she wants. She has the right. He pulled her closer when she tried to get out of his lap.
"Not now, Lady... Stay like this for some more time..."
Rory stopped moving. She let go of all her defenses and leaned on him. Closing her eyes as his breath fell on her hair, she listened to his heartbeat. It was soothing.
Now that everything is settled between them, she can focus on getting better and closer to him. She missed hugging him too. She wanted to be as close to him as before. She wanted to be his wife forever. She ditched her idea of divorcing him.
No divorce... The only option is to get better.
And that’s why what Liam said afterward made her stomach into knots.
"So, Cherry... About that break... How does a month sound?" he asked.
"What?" Rory almost slipped down but he wrapped his arm around her waist to stop her from falling. "You’re still on it? I thought we’d talked... I thought we were fine..."
"We are fine, silly," he bopped her nose. He found bopping her nose as interesting as kissing her. Well, not exactly the same. He would prefer kissing her. But this was a nice alternative.
Rory couldn’t even think straight. His smile only confused her.
"How about visiting your homeland? Don’t you miss it dearly? Lately, you’ve been talking about it a lot..." he said.
Rory was too stunned to speak. But she took in a deep breath to compose herself. "Yeah, we can go there, TOGETHER!" she said.
She would love to visit there. And yes, she missed that place. But why is Liam talking about it along with a break?
