The Secret Obsession of the CEO-Chapter 233: At The Trial
They stayed in Liam’s house for a couple of days. It was all fun. Rory could see that they are pretty understanding of their move to her homeland. She was relieved.
Liam was relaxed this time around everyone. Rory could see the changes in Liam and was glad. She only wanted him to be on good terms with his family because they love him so much. It took a lot of suffering for him to finally see that, but he saw it.
As Mrs. Brown said they have a lot of life left. It’s better to change for the better rather than stay the same.
When they returned to the penthouse, Rory didn’t find it that awful maybe because she knew she doesn’t have to stay there for long.
Rory didn’t know what happened. But the trial that was set to be broadcast publicly was changed. Someone got a stay for broadcasting the trial because it was unfair to the victims. And so, the trial was not broadcast publicly.
Reporters were allowed in the courtroom, but no cameras or recording devices were permitted. The reporters are to record the trial in the old ways--on paper. The modern reporters who don’t know shorthand were not at all pleased. They complained that they won’t be able to get good access like that.
But their complaints were ignored, and they were invited to stay out of the courtroom if they don’t comply to the rules.
Of course, the media people were not happy about it and complained that the higher officials are trying to protect those with power who Lennon might name.
Rory did think that it might be one of the reasons. And she didn’t know if voicing her opinions on the trial to Gordon Faraday might have contributed to it.
Liam was not changing his opinion on testifying against Lennon. She didn’t want there to be pictures and videos on the internet of Liam and Lennon together after the truth was out. She also heard that Lennon was hoping that the trial would be broadcast live. She did not like that. She had an obligation to protect her baby from potential problems in the future.
Whatever the reason was, she was glad that the trial is not going to be broadcast in public. Lennon won’t get what he wanted. But she wanted Lennon to be humiliated in public too.
But that’s fine. There will be reporters outside the courthouse, and they will take enough pictures of Lennon in... whatever jumpsuit he was wearing.
That man who once was wearing fine attires any man could get will only be wearing jumpsuits for the little of the days he left to live.
Liam was not a witness on the first day of the trial. By her understanding, Rory knew that the trial would span at least for months. And the judge might take longer. And for his execution, they won’t walk him to the death chambers immediately, unfortunately. They will have to wait, sadly.
But that’s okay.
"You look fine, husband," Rory said looking at Liam who was dressed in the nines for a trial he was just a spectator.
But that is understandable.
"Don’t let anything bother you, love," She kissed him. "Remember I am cheering for you. And I will be waiting for your return," she smiled and fixed his hair. "Ellie too."
Liam has good control of his temper these days, but he might revert to his old habits of Lennon’s provocation. In that case, he might be thrown out of the court, or worse, slapped with a misdemeanor charge or worse. That cannot happen.
"I will be calm. don’t worry," Liam kissed her forehead and hugged her tightly.
He took a good whiff of her scent so that he could feel her presence with him all the time to keep him cool.
"Here," Rory gave him her handkerchief sprayed with her perfume. "Have it with you," she placed it in his trouser pockets.
Liam pouted. Rory thought he does not like to have an embroidered kerchief with him when he took it out. But when he placed it in his chest pocket, her heart pounded.
"That’s where it should be," he patted his chest with a smile.
Rory pulled him by the collar and kissed him once more. She does have a very sweet husband who touches her heart with his love ever so often.
Rory waited for his return that day. She watched the news to see if she is prepared to see Lennon’s face again. When she saw his smirking face looking at each of the cameras around, she ended up turning off the television.
She was not ready to face that man yet. At least, not alone. She knew it would have been different if Liam was with her.
After Liam’s return, she asked him about that day. He said that it was just setting the basic premise of the trial and they just read the charges that spanned many sheets for every case Lennon confessed. He said it was boring.
"But it was worth it", he said. "He didn’t expect me there, dressed so fine..."
Rory didn’t see many changes in Liam’s behavior those days. And Liam would talk to her if he found something unbearable. And when she had troubles, she talked to Liam. They didn’t see their therapists often these days. They didn’t find the need to.
Liam went to the trials whenever there was a trial. Sidney and Liam were the main witnesses and the prosecutors decided to put them on the stand as a finale rather than in between other witnesses. That made sense.
Also, although the jurors were supposed to be impartial, Lennon’s case was pretty famous. It is impossible for those jurors to not know about the case unless they were living under a rock. They must be heavily influenced and already might have formed an opinion.
So, there was not a great chance that even one of them would find Lennon not guilty. Also, the prosecution did a great job in presenting the case. Lennon’s assets were frozen and there was no way he could have hired good lawyers, but he did have good lawyers.
Mrs. Delport said that his lawyers were pulling a lot of strings behind the curtain. Tehy tried to disqualify the jurors, and they even tried to make the judge declare a mistrial on grounds that a juror was posting stuff on the internet.
That juror was dismissed and someone else who was greatly indifferent to the trial was brought it. The judge refused to declare a mistrial even though he was getting threats.
Liam told her that everyone involved in the trial knew that a lot of people were involved with Lennon, but only a few were exposed. Or the one who was left hidden is causing a lot of trouble.
Still, justice prevailed. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
As the trial was almost coming to an end, another jury was accused of misconduct. Although the identity of the jurors was kept secret, one of them gave an interview to a local blogger that blew up. The way he talked as if it was set caused a stir in the judicial world.
Everyone knew Lennon was guilty. But the law states that even he deserved a fair trial. And that split up the opinions. Many didn’t care Lennon was not given a fair trial. He deserves it. But some worried this may set precedent for innocents being persecuted just because of public opinion.
It became much bigger than they anticipated. Calls for a mistrial grew loud. The prosecution faced great trouble as someone filed a motion of distrust against the judge. They said that this case was just happening for the sake of the public and not based on the law.
As things took a turn for the worse, the prosecution begged Rory for testifying in the trial. Rory didn’t know what to do.
She talked to Mrs. Delport. And she was fuming. After everything was handed to them on a silver platter, the prosecution couldn’t even manage to conduct a simple trial.
Another big hiccup happened when one of the jurors was attacked on her way to court. Although it looked like a simple robbery, it did not go well with everyone.
Many attached the justice system for not protecting the vulnerable and only protecting those with the power. The media, having denied free access to the trial took it out by pushing articles that caused doubts against the intent of the judiciary system.
Many started questioning whether Lennon would be allowed to walk away because of the incompetence of the overpaid government workers.
It all became nasty.
Major changes were made, and the jurors were all put through a strenuous process. They were forced to stay in an undisclosed location and were protected all the time with officers in plain clothes.
But then something else happened.
Out of nowhere, a hashtag started trending all over.
#whereisrory
It appeared that the people who were not convinced of the prosecution’s intent started it. They asked why the main witness was allowed to not testify to fortify the charges against Lennon.
But Rory knew what it was.
That hashtag was started by Lennon. He wanted her.
