Chapter 237: Changed Mind?

The judge turned at Lennon as he was making a commotion. Lennon asked the judge to take off his mouthguard and allow him to talk to Rory.

The judge refused his request and warned him not to disrupt the court. He discussed with the lawyers from both sides and ended the trial for the day. He announced a later day for the trial to continue. The bailiff asked everyone to stand, and the judge left.

"Little Rose! Rory! Come to me!" Lennon shouted as he was brought out of the courtroom.

Rory didn’t even look in his direction as her eyes were on her husband. "You did good," she hugged him as he got to her.

"You think so?" Liam rubbed her back.

"Ah, your hands are so cold," Rory held his hands between her hands.

She heard the mumbles from the gallery and realized the press was still there. They must be voicing out their displeasure about not allowing cameras inside the courtroom.

If she was a reporter, she would feel terrible if she cannot take pictures of the trial of the decade. But, eh! It is what it is.

Rory noticed that Sidney was walking toward them pushing everyone away. She looked like she was about to say something that might start a fight. Rory didn’t want to be there anymore.

"Let’s leave. Ellie will be missing us" Rory hurried Liam to leave.

"Hey, wait..." Sidney shouted.

Liam saw Rory was keen on running away and he followed her out.

"You said you won’t look at him again and yet you are here!" Sidney shouted and followed them to the corridor.

As Sidney was asking some pertinent questions and the reporters started following Sidney and shouted for Rory to stop.

"Did I tell her that?" Rory asked Liam and Liam shrugged.

Rory did not remember talking to Sidney about that. But maybe she did. She didn’t know. What she did know was that she didn’t want to talk to Sidney.

Liam grabbed Rory’s hands and winked at her. Rory nodded with a smile.

"1...2..." Liam counted.

"3!" Rory shouted and the both of them made a run for it to the parking lot.

Sidney chased them for some time, but she couldn’t catch up with them. Both Rory and Liam were in good shape after taking a lot of walks and they didn’t even break a sweat when they got in the car.

"How did you feel today?" Liam asked.

They were parked on the side of the road eating their well-earned cheeseburger and fries.

"Looking at him?" Rory took a big bite of the burger. "Not much. Even I was surprised, she said.

"Good," Liam nodded. He was worried that he might have pushed her to do something that might hurt her. But now, he relaxed.

"He is no one now. We don’t have to think about him as if he rules our life or something..." Liam added.

That guy hurt them a lot and it is time that they leave that guy behind.

"You should think about it, Cherry," Liam said patting her hand as he drove.

"About testifying?" Rory asked and Liam nodded.

"Maybe I should..." Rory took a sip of the soda. "But why is no one talking about Jake?" Rory asked. "Isn’t he one of the important witnesses too? He was the informer. Why are they letting him go?" she asked.

She knew her grandmother must have been involved in this. But if she is getting pressure, how come Jake was let go easily like that?

"I was told that his life is in danger, and he was allowed to go into hiding. His testimonies were recorded already, and the judge accepted them as valid. So..."

"Oh..." Rory nodded.

It made sense. The ones who try to kill Lennon and help him will find Jake an enemy. He should be safe somewhere.

"You didn’t guess that he was a psychopath, ever?" Rory asked.

Liam shook his head. "He was diligent and... It’s not like I’ve known him for ages. Lennon was the one who sent me to him and I..."

"Hmm," Rory nodded. Liam trusted Lennon and Jake too. It is sad that neither of them cared for Liam in the true sense.

Rory did not feel sad about it. He has a lot of people who love him for who he is.

Jake has helped a lot. Without him that night, she would have been... So, yes. She is thankful for him. But she was not naive to think that Jake did that out of the goodness of his heart. He did that because it was a job for him. He worked for her grandmother and did what was asked of him. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have bothered with her that night.

"Hey," Liam pushed her shoulder with his.

"What?" Rory looked at him with a smile. He threw the tissue he used to wipe his hands on her face.

"Eww!" She hit his arm with a chuckle.

"Do you remember?" he asked leaning on her shoulder. "Back then, we used to eat burgers in the car a lot. You didn’t like to eat in the family restaurants and~"

"Whoa! When did I ever say that mister? It was you who would always use the drive-through because you wanted to eat alone," Rory tried to twist his ear but he got away from her.

He grabbed her hands and leaned to her face. "I did want to be alone with you..." he wriggled his brows.

Rory blushed remembering those days. Liam liked to do "it" in the car a lot and wouldn’t miss any chances to have her alone inside the car.

Liam kissed her and the intensity of the kiss increased. Rory knew where this is leading. She opened her eyes and looked out. They were parked on the side of the road. The sun was still up, and people were walking on the sidewalks.

In the past, she used to not care about others. They were married! And that was reason enough for her to not mind the place.

Man, she was young then! But now...it was just until a couple of years back, but it seems like a lot of time had passed now.

"Come on, Fizzy... Let’s go home..." she pushed him back.

"Cherry, just once... please..." he begged her.

"What are you..." she patted her cheeks which were burning. "Not here... in the parking lot..." she offered a compromise. "What if someone takes a picture or something?" she looked around.

And what if they posted it on the internet? They have a daughter. Nothing can be deleted from the internet. She didn’t want to put her daughter through that trauma.

Liam was not pleased. But he understood where she comes from. They are not some unknown university students anymore. They cannot do whatever they want anymore.

Liam kissed her cheek and zoomed off. He wanted to get to the parking lot quickly.
