The Secret Obsession of the CEO-Chapter 262: Way of the World
The nurse went in and did some first aid. A commotion ensued. The emergency number was called. But the ETA was ten minutes.
Rory took a peek inside her grandmother’s bedroom. Mrs. Delport was standing by the bed with her hands covering her mouth. The nurse was still doing CPR.
Her grandmother was lying motionless. And there was no pulse.
Rory knew. Her grandmother called her grandfather’s name. Was she seeing him by the window? Probably.
She has heard of people seeing their dead loved ones just before they die. Did that happen with her grandmother too?
Leaning on Liam’s chest, she started sobbing. The paramedics arrived. They tried their best too. And then they did it.
They pronounced the time of death.
Ellie didn’t understand why her mother was crying and she started to cry too. Liam had eyes filled with tears. Hearing the siren of the ambulance, Frank came to their house.
That’s it. That was the end of the life of a woman who accomplished many things and changed the lives of many. Agnes Roberts, wife of Archibald Roberts and a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother had died after living her life fully.
Rory stopped crying after some time. She knew this was coming. And probably this was for the best. Her sufferings have ended, and she can rest in peace.
And she was very glad she was there at her grandmother’s final moments.
She first consoled her crying daughter. Liam couldn’t handle her. Although she was little, she could feel the sadness around and she didn’t stop crying. Only after Rory talked to her with a smile, did Ellie stop crying.
After feeding Ellie, Rory put her to bed for a nap. Ellie fell asleep almost immediately.
Rory came out. She saw Mrs. Delport already making the funeral arrangements along with Liam. She went to the kitchen to prepare dinner for everyone.
At that time, Claire called. She offered her condolences. She also told her that she will send dinner for them.
Rory was touched. But then, this is what she loved about Liam’s family. They will be there when they need help. She thanked Claire.
Rory had nothing much to do. Mrs. Delport took it to the next level. She wasn’t even willing to sit down. Rory let her be as she was coping by keeping herself busy. Frank had informed the town about Agnes Roberts’ passing and they were receiving a lot of phone calls. Liam took care of that.
"Has Gordon Faraday been informed?" Rory asked Mrs. Delport.
Although she didn’t know the whole story between her grandmother and Gordon, she had a feeling that Gordon should know about her grandmother’s passing.
Mrs. Delport was not so keen on it judging by her expression. Rory walked out to the garden and called Gordon. She wasn’t even sure that Gordon would answer her call, but just after a ring, Gordon answered.
"Mr. Faraday..." She didn’t know what to say.
She heard Gordon sigh from the other end. There were other noises around as if he was in an office building. "Is it about Agnes?" he asked.
"Yes, she... in the afternoon, she..." Rory couldn’t speak. Although she had accepted her grandmother’s death, it was hard for her to say it out loud.
There was silence at the other end. Pin-drop silence. "Was it peaceful?" Gordon asked after a long time.
"Yes. Very much peaceful. She was lucid for a moment and then..." Rory said.
Gordon went silent for some time. Then Rory heard him take a deep breath. "Thank you for informing me. If you need any help, don’t hesitate to call me," he said and ended the call.
Rory stood in the garden and let out a deep breath. She looked to the West to have a glimpse of the sunset. But it was cloudy and all she could see was the orange sky with tints of pink in it.
Beautiful!
"Cherry..."
She turned to see Liam walking toward her. She smiled at him. He came to her and held her hand.
"How are you holding up?" she asked. She knew her grandmother was fond of Liam more than she was of her.
Liam nodded. But his eyes filled with tears. "You have me," he said out of nowhere.
"I know," Rory said.
Standing shoulder to shoulder they watched the orange sky turn deep blue. Rory realized the meaning behind Liam’s words only then.
All her blood relatives are dead!
Well, not all. She has her daughter, and another baby is growing in her belly. But... Yeah, Liam is right. She’s not alone.
She has a family of her own.
It’s the way of the world. The old ones leave, and life moves on with the young ones. And there is beauty to it.
"I’ve informed Ian’s family too," Liam said as they walked inside the house.
"You’re amazing, Fizzy," Rory kissed his cheek.
"Take a nap if you want," Liam rubbed her back. "I’ll wake you up if needed."
Rory nodded and went and curled up on the bed along with Ellie. Just as she was about to fall asleep, she felt Liam by her foot.
"Don’t curl. It’s better if you sleep on your left side," he said. He had his phone in his hand.
Rory smiled. "What will I do without you?" she said and did as he told.
She could see that he is trying to take care of her. She handled her previous pregnancy almost alone and she did fine. But she longed for him to be by her side.
Her wish didn’t get granted last time. But this time Liam is offering. She decided to enjoy him taking care of her. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
She closed her eyes. She felt the bed sinking by her side. And he softly kissed her forehead while gently patting her belly.
Rory’s heart warmed by his little act. "I love you, Fizzy," she mumbled.
"I love you too, Cherry," he kissed her.
In his gentle embrace, Rory fell asleep.

Lennon was transferred to a maximum-security prison. And he was housed with other death-row inmates. Since his psych evaluation deemed him manipulative, there were orders for the guards to not interact with him.
Lennon kept to himself and observed everything. He needed to be out. Not for long, but jsut for a day or two... enough to tear Liam apart. That was the only way he could punish Aurora, the one who brought him down.
Like a crane waiting for the fish, he waited for the right person to come to him. But maybe luck was by his side, he found the perfect mark just in a couple of days.
A wide-eyed rookie entered the prison as a guard. He minored in psychology and was fascinated by the death row inmates. He was more than fascinated by William Caroll, the infamous psychopath.
