The Secret Obsession of the CEO-Chapter 264: The Judgement
"He won’t be a trouble anymore," Gordon said.
Rory assumed Gordon was talking about Lennon. "That’s good," Rory said. She had a bad feeling after seeing the pictures of Lennon glaring at them on the papers. But Gordon seemed to know something. He sounded so sure.
Rory had a feeling that Gordon did something. She would have put the phone on speaker if they weren’t in public. She mouthed to Liam that it was Gordon on the phone. She thought he would want to hear what he was saying. But he was more interested in finding the diapers.
Rory walked to a quiet place.
"By the way, what do you think about the lethal injection?" Gordon asked.
"It’s good. But he would be given anesthetics to not feel the pain? And his death would be quick and his body would be left pristine..." she whispered.
She didn’t like that he would be dying without pain. But these days all execution methods might be "humane" as some people think that no human deserves to die in the hands of the government.
"Hmm," Gordon hummed. "I see..." he said.
Rory waited. "Agnes was..." Gordon said and Rory listened closely. She couldn’t hear anything from the other end.
"It’s nothing. Live a good life with your family. That’s what your grandmother would have wanted for you," he said. And then the call ended.
"Thank you," Rory said although the call had ended. She looked at her phone. She thought that Gordon was about to say something else at first.
She spotted Liam with the cart looking for her and she walked to him with a smile. Whatever it is, it doesn’t matter. She needs to be by her family’s side.
On their way home Rory told Liam about the odd phone call she received from Gordon. As she was talking to Liam, he received a phone call from the prison Lennon was in. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
Rory didn’t know that Liam had connections with the people there. For a moment there, she missed the innocent boy she once knew. Yeah, he scared people with his hot temperament, but he was still innocent. He said everything to the face.
She never thought that he could be cunning. And here he is... having spies in prisons...
The things men do to protect their family... Especially her man... She would forever appreciate him.
As Liam was driving, he put the phone on speaker. The guy who was on the phone said that Lennon had locked himself in the freezer and was taken to the infirmary. Although he didn’t have any life-threatening issues, they were going to assess his mental state as he had attempted to take his life.
"Is he thinking of fastening the process? Or is he still trying to avoid the death penalty by acting like he is screwed in the head?" Rory said. She was annoyed. That guy is like a cockroach who refuses to die.
Liam said nothing. Rory didn’t talk more about that again. Liam did say that he was taking care of it. Gordon’s call too was at an odd time.
She was not that curious about it. As long as she could personally see Lennon dying behind a glass, she would be okay.
-----
The day of the judgment...
Liam and Rory were granted special access to the judgment. Lennon was brought to court. He was not his usual aloof self. He looked like someone had drained his soul from his body. Not that one would imagine him with a soul.
He was sitting with his head bowed the whole time. As the judge read the judgment, Rory held Liam’s hand.
The judge had concluded that William Caroll would be executed by lethal injection in two months. The judge also added that although William Caroll spared no humanity for his victims, he will be treated with humanity.
No one shouted in glee but many cried. Lennon was brought out of the court. He said nothing. He didn’t spare any glance at anyone either. He looked broken and obedient.
Rory looked at Liam. She had a feeling that Liam had something to do with it. But she didn’t want to know. Lennon deserves everything thrown at him.
Even the judgment that most considered fair, caused negative comments from some. They said that the execution that was fixed to be done in two months was proof that Lennon was not guilty. Rory couldn’t wrap her head around how they arrived at that conclusion.
But they were only a fringe minority. Most of them saw Lennon’s true self during the verdict. Everyone had settled that Lennon was guilty and he deserves the death punishment.
With just two months left before Lennon’s execution, Rory faced a dilemma. Should she leave for her homeland or stay in this country until the execution?
Liam had some business to handle there as most of his business operations were stationed there. But the unplanned pregnancy put dents in their plan.
Liam didn’t think that it is safe for Rory to travel when she was in her early pregnancy. And they will have to make the travel back in a couple of months.
Rory did not like for Liam to travel across the Atlantic every week just to take care of her.
As they were wondering what to do, Mrs. Delport called. She asked them what their plans were. When Rory talked about the dilemma they were in, Mrs. Delport offered to come to stay with Rory until the execution.
She wanted to be there for the execution.
Liam and Rory found that to be a good idea. Rather than leaving Rory with someone else, Liam found that Mrs. Delport would be more apt. They can help each other.
With that settled, they went to bed. Liam pulled her into his embrace. He kept on staring at her. Even with her eyes closed, she could feel his stare on her.
"Can’t sleep?" she asked.
Liam kissed her forehead and smiled.
"What’s bothering you?" she asked. He looked sad.
Liam shook his head. But she could see his eyes getting misty.
"What is it?" she tried to get up but he hugged her. "Tell me..." she rubbed his back.
