The Secret Obsession of the CEO-Chapter 266: His Worry, Her Tolerance
Rory could only laugh when Liam entered the room first. He was asked to stay behind which he didn’t want to do but he had to.
When the ultrasound was taken Rory was observing the face of the sonographer to see if everything was fine. But she was poker-faced.
Liam was holding her hand probably to comfort her, but his hold was so tight. It appeared that he was the one who needed comfort.
It reminded her of the day Ellie was born. The guy she thought was the intern had such a strong grip too. It was him, then... He was cute then and he is cute now.
Finally the sonographer turned the monitor for them to see. She told them that the growth of the baby was great and the baby is healthy. Rory almost jumped for joy.
"That’s our baby, Fizzy... Isn’t he cute?" she said holding back her tears.
"She is..." Liam leaned closer to the monitor. "Is that the baby?" he observed closer.
"It’s his first time," Rory explained.
The sonographer pointed at the head, the limbs, and the fingers. Rory thought he would get excited and even cry. But he looked very confused. It was anti-climatic for Rory. Not that she wanted him to cry.
On the way home, Liam was silent. When they reached home, Ellie greeted them. It was beautiful to watch her waddle to them and those sweet little thuds her little feet made on the floor were so divine to hear. The happy laughter on her face to see her parents was like the song of angels.
Rory’s heart pained a little seeing her little darling waddling past her and reaching for her dad, but she gave birth to a daddy’s girl. What else can she expect?
"You’re the prettiest baby in the whole world! My darling," Liam showered kisses on Ellie only for her to giggle and kiss him back.
"Love you, dada..." she said. And mama was ignored.
Well, whatever!
Rory went on to take a rest as she was tired of sitting for a long time. She didn’t have morning sickness, but she felt a lot tired as weeks passed.
She fell asleep almost immediately. Liam was lying by her side, eyes wide open, staring at the ceiling when she woke up.
"What are you thinking about?" she asked leaning on his chest.
"You are not worrying about anything, right?" he asked gently patting her arm.
It was comforting but Rory didn’t understand what he was saying. "About what?" she asked.
"Nothing. It’s good you’re not worrying," he said.
"All right..." Rory faced him. "Tell me about it."
"What? It’s nothing. Just... sleep," he tried to make her lie on the bed.
Rory didn’t let him. It was obvious that he was worrying about something. After a lot of coaxing, Liam finally opened up.
Apparently, the baby was "not aesthetically pleasing". He was worrying deeply that the baby is ugly with warts on its skin. He even worried that the baby had a tail.
Rory wanted to ask him if he was high during the ultrasound. She got so mad that he talked about their baby like that. But she controlled herself as she realized that he tried to avoid talking about it for the whole time and she was the one who forced him to talk about it.
She explained that Ellie too looked the same in the ultrasounds and that babies will be different once they are born.
"But Ellie was beautiful as a baby. I know because I held her first," he said.
Rory didn’t know what to say to him. A lot of words in what he said made her blood warm. But at that time just before she lashed out at him, she remembered that men become fathers when they meet their babies, unlike women.
She let out a couple of deep breaths. "You’re right. We can afford to have an ugly baby. Let’s shower him with love so that he won’t feel excluded," she said.
Sorry baby, she caressed her belly. Sorry, you have a stupid father. But he loves you. Bear with him for some time...
"Yeah, we will," Liam hugged her and kissed her.
Rory was too tired to speak anymore.
Time passed. The day of Lennon’s execution was nearing. There was no news about him other than he was staying quietly in his cell.
Rory’s belly was getting bigger. The night before the execution, Liam cooked dinner. He offered to clean the dishes too and she was happy about it. Ellie was sticking to her dad like glue.
Rory was happy to be left alone. She went to bed early. But she couldn’t sleep. The baby was moving too much.
"You’re not sleeping..."
Liam entered the room. Rory smiled seeing him closing the door so softly. Ever since he started caring for Ellie, he has developed this unconscious habit of closing every door softly.
She couldn’t believe the guy who used to throw stuff left and right when he gets angry, had turned this gentle.
People talk about motherhood a lot but not a lot is talked about fatherhood. She’s a witness to how fatherhood changes a man.
Ah... I married the perfect man!
"Is Ellie asleep?" she asked.
"She’s out just on the second page today," he smiled. There was a sense of accomplishment in his smile.
"That’s great," Rory held out her hand for him.
He held her hand and lay on her lap pressing his ear to her belly. Rory softly patted his head.
"Oww... she’s kicking so hard today," Liam scooted a little further from her belly.
"He’s very excited today," Rory chuckled.
She has tried her best to convince her husband they are having a son. But Liam still thinks that they are having a daughter with a tail. Rory stopped trying to convince him. He can see for himself when his son is born.
"Are you okay, Cherry?" he asked caressing her cheek.
Rory held his hand and kissed it. "I can’t wait for tomorrow," she said knowing that Liam is worrying for her.
She will not miss the execution for anything.
Liam smiled. His wife never disappoints him.
