The Secret Obsession of the CEO-Chapter 268: Past Guilt
Gordon Faraday turned off the monitor with a content smile. His phone rang and he picked it up.
"You’ll receive the payment within a minute. I’ll handle everything with your higher-ups. Happy retirement, doctor," he ended the call.
He doesn’t usually like state-sponsored murdering. He liked keeping it private for his enjoyment. But this one was worth it.

Lennon’s execution made front-page news. The reporter who was present gave a detailed description of what happened.
It caused a lot of negative comments against the doctor and the supervisors of the execution.
Until the transcript of William Caroll a.k.a. Lennon’s last words were published.
The opposition and calls for investigation from the common people died out after that. It was obvious he died without feeling any remorse.
Rory and Liam returned to Sterling Castle, the place they called home. Liam concentrated on his business.
From what he told her, Rory could see that his businesses were taking off. Rory also found that the investments she made were fruitful gaining her a lot.
She invested more in her husband’s company.
Their life at home was peaceful. Ellie was growing up well. She loved running around in the green meadows. Her hair turned strawberry blonde as she grew up. The red stayed even against the strong blonde genes.
When she ran around, she looked like a blooming flower. "I’m so glad she takes after you," Liam would say often. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Rory too saw the resemblance. Not with Rory, but with Rory’s father. Her grandmother was right!
She hoped their son takes after Liam. His good looks cannot be recessive.
Although no one cared much about the commission that was formed by the government to investigate the death of William Caroll, some humanitarian societies were keen on getting the truth out.
After a long delay, the investigation was closed. The report stated that the drug cocktail reacted badly in Lennon’s body, which is why the gory scene happened. They even gave some medical terms.
No one was found guilty and there was no evidence of tampering with the drugs.
It was not even important news as no one cared about it. It was a small article posted in a short paragraph on the fifth page of the newspaper.
On the same day, the cover of Forbes magazine sported Liam with his interview attached. And Page Six reported the birth of the son of the rising entrepreneur Fitzwilliam Roberts and his wife Aurora Roberts.
Those exclusive articles prompted many other articles in almost all newspapers both in print and online.
None of those articles mentioned William Caroll or Lennon Roberts. Frank Roberts was mentioned as Liam’s father.

Rory woke up after the little rest she was blessed with. She had her contractions the previous day morning. She thought she can wait some hours before getting to the hospital.
Liam was at home and she was not very worried. But then the contractions got closer together and she knew she was in labor.
Just as she expected, Liam panicked. But right after they reached the hospital, she knew the baby was coming. They hurriedly took her to the labor room, and she gave birth almost immediately.
She didn’t even get an epidural and yet it didn’t hurt much. They asked her to push. She did, once. She could feel the water breaking and along with the gush of amniotic fluid, out came her son, deciding not to let his mother suffer.
Liam was still outside signing the forms and he was informed of the birth of his son.
He was pissed because she didn’t involve him in the birth. He did cut the cord. She didn’t know what else he would have done in there. But he was not very pleased.
Apparently, that was all he ever wanted, all his life!
AS IF I HAD ANY CONTROL!!!
Rory shouted. He shut up. But he was pouting the whole night. Rory couldn’t understand why he was pouting. He was the one who fainted during Ellie’s birth. What does he want anyway?
Although Rory tried to explain to her toddler about her new brother who will arrive any time, she didn’t think her toddler understood much.
She told Ellie to be with Mrs. Delport for a couple of days until she returned with her baby brother, but little Ellie couldn’t stay away from her parents.
Mrs. Delport brought Ellie back to the hospital. Ellie was curious to touch her baby brother, but Liam took charge. Rory had little over four hours of sleep the entire night.
That was plenty more than what she had after Ellie’s birth!
Rory smiled seeing Liam and Ellie sleeping on a cramped couch in the room. Ellie was sleeping on Liam’s chest and Liam had to squeeze himself to fit onto the small couch.
Poor guy...
She checked her son who was still sleeping. She picked him up and fed him just as he started to wake up. He was a little colicky last night and didn’t sleep much. She wanted him to rest more when he can.
Isn’t he adorable?
He didn’t have much hair. The little hair on his bald head was white, almost grey.
His eyes were deep blue, like sapphire.
That was no surprise. Both her side and Liam’s side had blue eyes. She didn’t think there is the possibility of any other color eyes.
After her son had his fill, she placed him gently on her chest and patted his back to burp him.
She sat leaning on the bed and before she knew it, she was falling asleep. She woke up with a gasp feeling warmth on her hand.
It was Liam.
He got the baby from her hand and sat beside her.
"So, this is our son..." he stared at the baby for some time. "It’s not a girl baby with a tail, but a boy baby..."
Rory bit her lips to control her laughter and leaned on his shoulder.
"Thank you for being my support, Fizzy," she said.
Although he was pouting, he woke up every time the baby cried and tried his best. He helped her with her trips to the bathroom. And he made sure Ellie had a good rest.
"Did I? Was I really helpful?" he asked.
"Of course," she said.
She was not lying. She was speaking from her heart. Seeing his perplexed expression, she figured that was the reason for his outburst the previous day.
"You were a great support for me," she said.
No matter how many times she tried to make him understand that she had forgiven him for what happened in the past, Liam still is feeling guilty. The poor guy must have thought that she would have felt abandoned when that was not the case for her.
That was the case for Liam. Her words that she felt abandoned by him were still ringing in his ears. He didn’t want to let her feel like that ever again.
