The Soft-Hearted Wife of Mr. Big Shot-Chapter 204: Rose Sawyer’s Strange Behavior
The ultimate thrill is that one-of-a-kind surprise, and sometimes an unexpected gift is the biggest surprise.
The good mood for the whole day had been used up in the morning. Today is another happy day.
After breakfast, Leo Grant left for work, and Holly Sawyer went upstairs intending to continue sleeping, when suddenly the phone rang urgently.
Holly looked at the caller ID, slightly furrowed her brows, and then answered the call.
"I’m at the airport, can you come pick me up?"
Rose Sawyer’s voice sounded from the other end of the line, with some noisy and chaotic sounds surrounding her.
"Cold."
Leaning against the wall, Holly yawned and slowly uttered a word.
On such a cold day, she didn’t feel like moving at all.
It was unusual for Rose to ask for help, so calling Holly to pick her up was indeed a bit strange.
After Rose did a lot of persuading over the phone, Holly lazily agreed, slowly got dressed, and dawdled for a while before heading out.
Really cold.
From the garage, she casually picked a car to drive to the airport to pick up Rose.
Rose was inside the airport waiting for Holly; she wore a thick coat, a hat, and was wrapped tightly all over.
"You usually don’t need me, what’s going on now?"
Holly approached Rose and slowly started asking.
Every month, Holly transfers money to Rose as scheduled and Rose never lacks money. Rose usually solves her travel and return issues by herself, never bothering Holly.
Today was an exception.
"I miss you, is that not allowed?"
Rose looked at Holly and spoke slowly.
Holly: "..."
Gee, so odd.
Rose doesn’t usually talk like this; the normal Rose would say things that don’t sound nice.
"I want to stay at your place for two days."
Rose stuffed her suitcase into Holly’s hand and dragged Holly outside, moving quickly.
It seemed a bit urgent.
Holly felt bewildered and followed Rose onwards.
"Hey, do you want to walk back?"
Seeing the increasing distance between her and the car she parked, Holly glanced back at her car and cast a sideways glance at Rose, thinking she was behaving oddly today.
"Didn’t you drive here?"
Rose turned and glanced back at Holly, blinking her eyes.
"Behind us."
Holly, feeling speechless, dragged Rose back.
"Oh dear, I thought that car was yours."
Rose pointed to a white car not far away and slowly began speaking, her gaze drifting as she assessed the car Holly brought.
"What, do you dislike it?"
Following Rose’s gaze, Holly noticed the car and, speechless, rolled her eyes.
The white car seemed much fancier compared to the one she drove; its luxury was evident among many other cars.
"Not at all."
"I recall you always drive nice cars, specifically choosing expensive ones."
"Now you’re driving such a modest one, that really surprises me."
"It doesn’t add up, you don’t exactly lack money, do you? Nor the money to buy upscale cars, your boyfriend also has cash, so why can’t you drive a fancier car?"
Rose sized Holly up and down, slowly speaking with a hint of doubt in her gaze.
If dating a guy leads to a decline in a girl’s living standards, other matters might as well be ended, including the relationship.
Actually, sometimes how well or elegantly a girl lives doesn’t directly relate to whether her partner has money.
A man having money isn’t crucial; the critical point is whether he’s willing to spend it on you.
If a man is wealthy but unwilling to spend money on you, then the relationship can end.
If a man isn’t very wealthy but gives you the best he can and treats you wholeheartedly, then the relationship can continue.
Of course, it should be based on whether a man has ambition; without ambition, all well-meant advice goes unheeded.
"No, I just randomly picked one from the car lot, didn’t pay attention, merely came out to fetch you."
Holly shot Rose a glance, speaking slowly.
Leo’s garage housed many cars, from economy to luxury options.
The mother and daughter bickered like this until they got home.
"Oh wow, it’s nice and cozy indoors with heating."
As Rose opened the door, a wave of warmth greeted her and brushed across her weary face, making her briefly close her eyes, enjoying the comfort of the warmth.
"Obviously, how could you call me out in the cold like this."
Holly closed the door behind her, speaking slowly.
Her home always had sufficient heating during winter; she almost never turned it off. It stayed on throughout the winter.
The electricity bill surged upward, Holly’s winter electricity bill even exceeded that in summer; it’s a unique quirk of Holly’s.
"I’m your mom, after all."
Unapologetically, Rose settled down on the sofa, grabbing an unopened snack bag and started eating.
"Why wear a hat indoors, with the heat so strong?"
Holly handed Rose a cup of hot milk, glancing dismissively at the bright red hat on Rose’s head.
"I like it, none of your business."
Rose kicked off her shoes, placing her feet freely on the coffee table, grabbing the remote to turn on the TV.
She exuded a lazy vibe akin to Holly’s usual demeanor.
Their eyebrows and eyes mirrored each other’s, sharing preferences and even similar routine actions. Isn’t this because they’re mother and daughter? Because of a shared lineage?
"Oh come on, you have no manners at all."
Seeing Rose’s actions, Holly bluntly remarked this.
Both used to teasing each other, seizing every chance to poke fun at the other.
"As if you’re courteous."
Rose snapped back, eyes fixed straight at Holly.
Holly glared at Rose, swiftly reaching to pull her hat off, catching Rose unawares so that it was easily whisked away.
Even if Rose were prepared, Holly would still yank the hat off; some skills aren’t learned for nothing.
"Whoa..."
Holly holding Rose’s hat suddenly paused, visibly stunned at Rose’s head.
She blinked, closed her eyes, and reopened them; the scene before her remained unchanged.
It felt slightly surreal; Rose seemed not quite real.
"Stop staring, believe that what you see now is real, no need to doubt your eyesight."
Rose crossed her arms, yawned slowly started speaking, her voice particularly soft.
Although even she thought it was unbelievable.
