The Soft-Hearted Wife of Mr. Big Shot-Chapter 78: A Gift for the Little Girl (1)
The night slowly descended, and the street lamps lit up, bringing a slight chill to the autumn evening.
Holly Sawyer and Leo Grant strolled along the riverbank, the evening breeze gently tousling Holly’s hair, making her feel a bit chilly.
"Here, put this on."
Leo draped the suit jacket he had slung over his wrist around Holly, looking at her with extraordinary gentleness.
"Hmm, thank you, big brother."
Holly obediently put on the jacket, feeling genuinely cold.
"Close your eyes."
Leo reached out, his large palm covering Holly’s eyes.
Holly was a bit confused, momentarily not reacting.
Suddenly, the sound of fireworks filled the sky, cheers erupted all around, and Leo removed his hand from Holly’s eyes.
Holly opened her eyes to see fireworks bursting in the sky, colorful and dazzlingly beautiful.
The fireworks were truly stunning.
"Do you like it?"
Leo placed his hand on Holly’s shoulder, pulling her close.
Holly looked up at the splendor filling the sky, a sweet smile gracing her lips, while Leo gazed at Holly tenderly, a gentle, doting smile on his lips.
No matter how beautiful the fireworks are, they can’t compare to the brilliance of your smile.
The breeze gently caressed, night like ink, as fireworks continued to blossom in the sky, the handsome man and pretty woman standing by the riverbank formed a picturesque scene.
"I like it."
Holly turned her head to look at Leo, her smile deepening further.
It’s very, very beautiful.
"Look, your birthday gift."
As the fireworks gradually faded away, a hot air balloon drifted by, the bright words "Happy Birthday" particularly striking.
"Happy birthday, my little fool."
Leo smiled, gazing at Holly tenderly, his tone indulgent yet soft.
It’s the first birthday he celebrated for Holly, hoping in the future he could celebrate every birthday for her.
Birthday comes once a year, and he promised that every birthday surprise in the future would be unique.
"I like it, thank you, big brother."
Holly’s eyes crinkled happily.
The unexpected surprise truly moved her.
"Let’s walk it off, and later I’ll take you for a midnight snack."
Leo gently rubbed Holly’s head, amusement dancing in his eyes.
He had prepared a lot, but unexpectedly someone else celebrated with the little girl before him, leaving him to cancel some planned things.
"Okay."
Holly looked up at the sky, the fireworks fleeting but the brilliant scene seemed to replay itself.
Leo stared at Holly, words he wanted to say remained unspoken.
He wanted to say: I’ve met many people in my life, like fireworks at my fingertips, flickering then dimming into ashes, but you’re different, shining like the North Star throughout my life.
"Big brother, in the future, can I celebrate your birthday too?"
Holly turned her head to look at Leo, blinking naively.
Leo celebrated her birthday with plenty of surprises, she wanted to return the gesture to Leo.
Leo’s birthday seemed to be in December.
Leo nodded: "Alright."
He didn’t need grand surprises, just Holly by his side on future birthdays would be the best gift there is.
Walking past a DIY cake shop, Leo pulled Holly inside, catching Holly by surprise.
The staff enthusiastically promoted the products, and Leo chose a seemingly simple one to make.
"Big brother, are you going to make a cake yourself?"
Holly watched as Leo rolled up his sleeves, blinking in surprise.
Hmm, quite unexpected.
"Personally making a birthday cake for Holly, though the cake is not big."
Leo gently rubbed Holly’s head with exceptional tenderness in his voice.
He wanted to make a small cake for Holly, just enough for her alone.
"Holly can just sit and watch."
Leo said and went to wash his hands, preparing to make the cake.
The staff patiently guided Leo as he listened attentively, quickly getting the hang of it.
Holly sat nearby watching, observing Leo’s clumsy attempts at whisking egg whites, a slight smile on her lips.
How nice.
Leo was extremely focused, while Holly supported her chin watching him, occasionally playing with her phone out of boredom.
In no time, over two hours had passed, Leo finished his work, not very pretty but heartfelt.
"First time making a cake."
Leo placed the packaged cake in Holly’s arms, a bit flustered.
The cake... was quite ugly.
Even with a fancy packaging, Leo felt it couldn’t hide the "ugly" cake inside.
"Big brother was super serious, the cake is very cute."
Holly held the cake, feeling delighted inside, she looked up at Leo with seriousness in her gaze.
Hmm, it should taste good.
Leo gently rubbed Holly’s head, silent.
The little girl was quite good at consolation, but Leo knew that deep down.
"Big brother, where are we going now?"
Leo took Holly’s hand and left the DIY store, as Holly followed his stride, slightly raising her head to look at him.
Leo: "Going for a midnight snack."
Holly blinked her eyes.
Seems like she ate quite a bit today, not sure if she’d have an upset stomach, but facing delicious food, there’s no fear.
"What are we eating?"
Holly asked, not particularly keen on repeating what she had consumed that day.
"Sushi, the little girl probably hasn’t had it here, right?"
Leo slightly curled his lips, speaking slowly.
The little foodie should enjoy it, she’s had quite a bit, but likely hasn’t tasted sushi in Bexley.
"Haven’t had it, want to try."
Holly’s eyes sparkled with laughter, it’s been quite a while.
Not familiar with Bexley, there were many culinary blind spots yet to be discovered.
The sushi shop wasn’t located in the city center, slightly off the beaten path, Leo drove half an hour to get there.
"Won’t disappoint, the taste is authentic."
The shop was small, unimpressive on the outside, but beautifully decorated inside, Leo told Holly.
Noah Raines was also quite interested in food; he recommended this sushi shop, claiming it to be authentic and quite delicious.
"Looks rather aged."
Holly stuck out her tongue, trusting Leo’s words.
Though late at night and slightly remote, the shop was crowded, indicating the sushi shop’s good reputation and taste.
Leo had reserved a spot ahead, so seating wasn’t a concern.
Leo confirmed with the reception and proceeded to the reserved spot, despite being crowded it wasn’t noisy, maintaining a quiet atmosphere.
