The SSS Beast King: Rebirth of the Legendary Predator-Chapter 1: Rebirth Of The Tyrant
Chapter 1: Rebirth Of The Tyrant
The eerie sound of footsteps echoed into my ears. How could this have happened? How long has it been since I was last scared, when was the last time I was about to lose my existence and this ruined world?
I looked at my subordinates, and a sharp pain pierced my heart at the thought that their death was my fault. I tried to groan, but my body, desperate to survive, only trembled in despair. I saw my reflection on the bloodied blade that was ready to take my head.
My scales had started to wither, and my eyes which were once considered to hold an entire galaxy inside had turned into a starless sky.
Had I wasted my life? No, I lived the way I wanted to the end...
Yet why do I wish for a second chance, what was binding my soul to this wicked place, what had damaged my heart so much that even at the end of the line, I still wish for a way to continue my lonely life?
I watched as the human boy prepared to take my life with his sword. His eyes held so much hared that even mine didn't compare, should the roles be reversed, after I was the one whose life was ending, not his.
'Just what have you been through?' I closed my eyes, letting my whole life flash before my lost eyes. What could I have done differently?
...
My birth was my biggest misfortune. I was born into a great clan of beasts, or so I should have been. I was abandoned at birth, it's a topic im not comfortable talking about yet. That is how I was thrown into the wilderness. I was alone, with no one to keep me company, which is one of the reasons I think I've developed my nature of overthinking everything around me.
Whenever I turned seven I was saved by another and taken to a village full of beasts. Here I was able to learn how to survive in this merciless place, how to fight against those who wish death upon me, and how to never trust even the kindest soul. To this day I still think of that beast as my idol.
Growing up, I watched how the others left to form these things called contracts. They told me it was a way to escape this ruined place, which at first made me ecstatic, but I later learned the true nature of these contracts.
By forming a contract you were essentially becoming a slave for a miserable human. That wasn't freedom, it was just an illusion of what it really is.
I never liked humans, due to some reasons connected to my birth, I had developed a deep hatred for any human, so you could guess I wasn't happy with the real nature of these contracts.
With my hatred growing higher and higher, I had focused it all on my training, and even with powers useless on their own, I was still able to use them to their best potential. My skills were considered more into the utility category, only one was truly related to fighting. But even with being crippled in anything related to fighting for the majority of my life. I still reach the top, climbing on the dead bodies of others.
I had formed an army that vowed to serve under me, but with time I realized that sometimes oaths aren't always kept.
Many had revolted against my rule of no contracts, and so created a group to defeat me, at first I let it happen, as I was sure they would realize that it was hopeless and then crawl back to me, asking for salvation.
But now I realize my mistake.
"It's time, your ruling is finally over... oh great king." So he dares mock me even on my deathbed, how cruel of him. But I guess I deserve it, don't I?
Who were you really? Were you part of the group, or just some kid who wants revenge for whatever reason? What have I done to you for you to have dedicated your life to end mine? I couldn't help but laugh. It was ironic, to be liked by a kid whose hair was the same color as the sun when I was the supposed darkness of this world.
But as I awaited death, I saw how the hand of this warrior started to glow as a blue rune appeared inside a circle on his hand. Had he decided to end me with a skill, I couldn't even get to be killed by a sword like every honorary beast.
"Form a contract with me. Either that or your reign ends here." I see, so this was your true goal. You aren't a hero, just some greedy basted who wishes for power like everyone else.
The one who had defeated me wasn't a star, but a black hole. Maybe you were once a bright star, and you lost your light due to the reality of this world, but that doesn't change anything.
I couldn't let myself die to someone like him.
[The conditions for your passive have been met,[At The Cost Of A Tail] is starting.]
Those were the last words I heard before I found myself in the endless darkness. This was the abyss, the place feared by every beast since it meant their worthless lives ended.
I had sealed myself, and now, I just had to wait, wait for a second chance.
...
The screeching sound of my alarm woke me up.
I frowned, rolling on my bed. I had a long day at school in front of me. I turned my head to the clock and jolted up seeing the numbers. I was late!
I ran out of my room and went straight to the bathroom. I grabbed the toothbrush, causing some of the other things around it to fall. I looked in the mirror while brushing my teeth. 'My hair is messed up.'
I have always attracted attention due to it, having white hair isn't that common nowadays, well it never was but still. And parring that with the purple eyes, I got from my parents, they made my day-to-day life a heck of a lot harder.
I went into the kitchen, where I saw my mother and sister. Though my father was still missing, guess being a guard isn't as easy of a job as I once thought. I graved a piece of toast and left. I was trying to save as much time, and talking to my family would waste too much of the little time available. As I ran to school, I remembered something.
I am fifteen years old, tomorrow I turn sixteen. And whenever you are sixteen you are officially allowed to get a monster contract. Many consider getting a contract life-changing, talking about how wonderful it is, my father is one of them, so I can't wait for tomorrow.
To get contracted you have to complete a memory. Memories are trials that different monsters can watch, if they find you interesting they can choose to make a contract with you, and bless you with their power. Memories have different difficulties. The harder the memory the stronger the monsters watching.
Memories are exactly what they sound like. They sent you to a specific time in your life, you could be put in your own body at that time, or someone else's. There you have to survive for a week.
People like me chose the easiest difficulty, we don't have the survival skills to do one of the hard memories.
After I barely avoided a truck that had lost control, I arrived at my school. Almyst Academy, one of the best academies on the continent, but to tell you the truth, I only got in because of my amazing studies.
I entered my class, thinking I had arrived just in time. But then I heard something I didn't want to hear.
"Jacob Moon! You are late again." I looked over to my teacher, she was clearly mad, the red color of her face expressed it loud and clearly. I can't say I didn't feel a shiver run down my spine as fear corrupted my whole body, making it harder for me to stand.
'Im sorry Miss, I had some... work to do.' I tried my best to make an excuse, but I don't think she bought it.
She sighed, and dismissed me, telling me to go to my usual seat. Classes differ for those under and over the age of sixteen, those under train for their trial, and those over to perfect their technique and get more accommodated to their skills.
As I was looking out of the window, bored out of my mind, felt someone stab me with a pen. 'Owch' it was my friend Emily. We have been best friends for forever. She was a nice blonde girl with pink eyes, that was very extroverted. Something I even can't keep up with her, but I try my best, not wanting to ruin our friendship.
I admit that I didn't focus much on class, I slept for the whole hour. Even so, I was going to the easiest memory, there was no need to overprepare.
My other classes were also boring, only the fighting class was interesting, we fought each other. I, of course, lost. But that will change tomorrow after I get my contract. I just have to have hope.
Walking home from school, I couldn't hold my excitement, I could hardly hold myself from jumping into the air. Getting contracted is like being reborn, and I couldn't wait to leave my boring life behind.
As this was happening, I felt a weird feeling while I passed by a specific building. I looked at it, confused since it wasn't any different from all the others, so why did it feel like I was being called by something inside?
I felt my body move on its own, and for some reason, I didn't go against it, I let it happen.
Inside, I found an empty throne, with a golden crown on top. There weren't any remains of the one that had once lived here. I have to say, I couldn't control my desire to sit on a throne.

So I put my pride aside and gave in. I walked toward the lonely throne and sat down on the hard ground. I took the crown, and with a slow motion of my hand, I put it on my head.
I felt... amazing! Like I was stronger than ever, it was so exhilarating. I felt like a real king, one that had a whole army under its feet, ready to serve him with anything he needed.
But then, I felt my mind going black like someone was actively trying to crawl its way inside. I tried removing the crown, but it was like it was part of me now. I felt tears drip down my face, as my vision slowly darkened, and soon, I was lost in the darkness.
...
I open my eyelids, it had been a while since I last had the sun blind me with its beauty. I couldn't help but smile. My plan had worked, I had been given a second chance.
At long last, my seal had been broken, by a weak human, but I was truly back for my revenge. Though I wonder, what has changed from when I first sealed myself. How much time had passed?
Well luckily, some of the memories of this child remained after I took over his body, so I was able to see everything that was new. ''Trials? Interesting.' They didn't exist in my time, what it seems to me that had happened was that humanity only got stronger, and now having a contract was something everyone had. 'I have... truly failed.'
Luckily, one of the memories that was prideful enough to stay was one of his home, so I didn't have to sleep on the street. But what I didn't expect was to have his mother crying at my feet. I guess she was worried. It was weird, having a mother, that was something I never experienced. It made me feel a little bad, but not enough to give up this chance.
Now, I just had to wait one more day, and my journey for revenge would start. My salvation, the only way to put my soul at rest.
...
I was woken up by an awful noise coming from a machine, I think the name of this miserable piece of shit was the alarm or something close to it. As soon as I woke up, I grabbed whatever caught my eye from the closet and left.
I never understood human fashion, maybe because I don't usually wear any clothes, but it just seems useless.
When I arrived at where the Memory Corporation building, I was met by four men. They guided me to a place with many many gates. Each had a bright white fire burning inside, but the heat emanating from each of them was different, which meant their difficult.
One of the men turned to me. By the way, he was acting I could tell he wasn't having a good day, so I doubt he will be any nice. Well, it's not like I care what a lowly human thinks.
He took off his glasses and massaged his eyes. "Alright kid, just go inside the first gate, that's the easiest one." Oh, how funny. Though im not criticizing him, I would have done the same if I had kids coming every day and making a big fuss about how they clear the hardest trial but then just go to the easiest one. So he was just trying to speed things up.
I ignored his comment and headed straight to the door that I felt burned the hottest. This was my call, I wasn't going to settle for anything average or even anything worse than that. I wanted the best, the hardest, and the strongest.
I could hear the men scream at me, this time I could sense actual concern in their voices. Looks like they weren't as heatless as they tried to be.
The fires covered my whole body in their warmth as I slowly entered the burning furnace that was this gate.
It was time for me to be Reborn.
