The Strange Groom's Cursed Bride-Chapter 79: So much for not spying
Chapter 79: So much for not spying
WHY!? Her mind screamed. Because it’s a terrifyingly expensive, self-driving luxury vehicle gifted by my psychotic, aloof husband! And I don’t want to say something here or go find Paula, only to be tracked down!
"Uhm... because it is only reasonable that I do not want to drive in a car with all of those?" She managed, trying to sound logical despite her pounding heart.
There was silence at the other end. So long that she almost thought he had ended the call.
"Hello?" She called, a nervous tremor in her voice.
"Press the button under the dashboard." He instructed, his voice as calm as ever.
She raised a brow, surprised there was really something like that. She fumbled around, her fingers tracing the smooth underside of the dashboard until she found a small, discreet button.
She pressed the button. At the same time, someone knocked on her window, startling her. She whipped her head around to find Suzy’s smiling face. Just as Suzy waved, Alice heard a soft, synthesized voice from the car’s speakers: ’Trackers deactivated.’
Alice stared in disbelief. So there had indeed been trackers. Her blood ran cold.
"What the hell! Were you trying to spy on me?" she demanded into the phone, her voice laced with outrage as she randomly pressed buttons on the console, trying to find the exact one to roll the window down for Suzy. But Suzy seemed to have just given up and turned toward the passenger side, opening the door and getting in.
Alice raised a questioning brow at her uninvited passenger, at the same time, Hades spoke, there was a hint of disbelief in his tone, almost a dry amusement.
"Spying on you?"
"How else can this be explained? You let me use this knowing those are in it." She tried to keep the conversation vague now that there was an uninvited passenger.
"I don’t spy on people." He said, his voice flat, final. There was an undertone there. A hidden meaning.
Alice suddenly could not find a word to say in retort because yeah... just less than two hours ago, he had accused her of spying. Of being a pervert. Her. Alice.
On the other side, Gavin raised a brow at Hades, but he said no words.
"Who are you still talking to? Just drive already!" Suzy complained cheerfully as she belted up, adjusting her sports headband. She looked like she was returning from an evening jog, vibrant and annoyingly energetic.
"Who is there with you?" Hades asked Alice, his tone still flat, but a subtle shift in his voice suggested he’d registered the new voice.
"S-Suzy," Alice said, recovering from the embarrassment. "Anyways... thank you. I’ll... be off." Then she ended the call abruptly, before he could ask any more inconvenient questions.
She looked at Suzy. "Why are you here?" Alice asked her, still reeling from the unexpected call and the sudden reveal of the trackers but also keeping her tone even. She had no problem with Suzy.
"Because I am going to be bored to death if I return home right now. Where are you heading to?" Suzy responded, completely unfazed by Alice’s stunned expression.
"I don’t... know? Just a drive out." Alice admitted, feeling a fresh wave of indecision. Also, she was not liking this. Was Suzy by chance... wanting to come with her?
She wanted to find Paula! She also wanted to stop by a nice restaurant!
"It’s late though. How long are you planning—" Suzy paused and slowly picked up the gate pass like some treasure, turning it over in her fingers. Not the black card. No. The gate pass. Her eyes widened.
"Hades has this?" she breathed, awe in her voice.
"Well, he gave it to me. So I suppose it’s his?" Alice said in an unsure tone.
"He gave you? Damn! There are only five in the entire estate. Did you threaten him? Give him good sex?"
"Hey!" Alice was instantly embarrassed, her cheeks flaming again. "W-What... what are you saying? He just gave it to me and asked me to go out if I want!"
"Why are you so defensive? He is your husband. Even though it’s a crazy arranged marriage, it wouldn’t be weird if you two... you know..." she wiggled her brows.
"Just stop talking, Suzy!" Alice said, trying hard to contain her embarrassment.
If this conversation had happened like a week ago, she would have given a big EWW. She wouldn’t fear responding without sounding or looking embarrassed. But now... she was insane.
Suzy looked like she still had a lot to say. In fsct, there was a playful smirk spreading across her face.
"That guy loves you, Cousin-in-law," Suzy said. "Even my parents have never let me use this. He is weird, but this is the highest form of love here."
Alice scoffed in disbelief. "Don’t be dramatic."
Hades? Love?
HA!
"Whatever! Now, let’s go! We can stay up all night. We have our magic wand anyway. And tell me about your meeting today." Suzy patted the card in Alice’s hand, completely missing her renewed panic.
Alice was still delaying, utterly at a loss for a destination, but suddenly, a recommendation flashed on the car’s screen. It was a building of some sort, only 25 KM away. She didn’t know where that was, but it was somewhere. She selected it.
Hades must have gone there. She would see the kind of places he went to.
"Unfortunately, we can’t stay up all night because tomorrow is our beloved exercise day," Alice said as the drive began, the silent hum of the electric engine pulling them forward.

Meanwhile, back in the study, Hades’s gaze was locked on Gavin, a cold, calculating intensity in his eyes.
"What?" Gavin asked, knowing that look. When Hades was suspicious. When he was about to give an order that would ruin Gavin’s peace.
"Follow them."
"Shit." Gavin muttered under his breath. "So much for not spying." He said in an accusatory tone, already picking up his car keys and tablet. He knew better than to argue with Hades when that look was in his eyes.
