The Supreme Soldier in the City-Chapter 177: I’m Furious
Chapter 177: Chapter 177: I’m Furious
"Emily Lopez, you’re a dead girl!" Gina Lopez nearly threw her phone, eyes flashed with rage, and said, "Sister Sunny, let’s go find them."
Sunny Nguyen immediately responded, "Do you know how many movie theaters there are in YODC City and where they all are?"
Gina Lopez was momentarily speechless; all the years she worked in YODC City, she had never watched a movie, let alone knew the locations or the number of theaters, but she quickly added, "I can search with the GPS."
"Then try it."
Gina Lopez entered the word "movie theater" in the GPS and found six. Besides the two in the city center, the other four were spread out. Searching each one by one would definitely take a lot of time.
Normally, if James Brown and Emily Lopez were going to a movie, they would choose the nearest theater, but given Emily’s personality, to keep herself hidden from her sister, she might very well choose one in a more secluded area. And it’s not like they could search every single auditorium like police officers.
This path was unfeasible, which made Gina very frustrated. At that moment, Sunny interjected, "I say, Gina, maybe we should just call James."
"Call him directly? He just ran off, would he really tell us where he is?" Gina frowned.
"If he doesn’t tell, then he doesn’t tell, but you need to let him know you care about him. It’s not just talk, so at least he’ll think twice and won’t act rashly."
Gina felt Sunny made a lot of sense. She was too scared about Emily and James being together, making her anxious and confused. Otherwise, someone of her stature as a boss would easily understand such basic ideas.
She picked up the phone, calmed her emotions, then dialed James Brown’s number.
It took a while before the call connected. Gina opened her mouth but didn’t know what to say. Yesterday, she had fought with Emily, which was why she dared say such things in front of James. Today, with Sunny by her side, she found it difficult to voice similar words.
"Mr. Lopez, do you need me?" James spoke first.
"Yes, there are some matters regarding recruitment, and I have some other issues to discuss with you," Gina could only lean into work-related topics, which made it sound more natural.
James responded, slightly annoyed, "Mr. Lopez, it’s almost nine in the evening, and we’ve already finished overtime. And you’re still assigning me work—it’s even worse than Zhou Bai Skin!"
Gina disliked James’s tone. Had it been anyone else, she would have put on a stern face, but she didn’t dare to do that with James. She just took a deep breath and tried to sound as gentle as possible, "You know the company’s situation. I was just discussing it with Director Green, some departments still need people."
"Let’s talk about it at work tomorrow. The movie is about to start." James said and abruptly hung up.
"Hello? Hello?" Gina shouted twice but only heard the dial tone. This really made her angry, not just because James hung up on her, but because he really went to see a movie, which obviously meant he went with Emily.
"Don’t panic. Although James did say he was going to a movie, it doesn’t necessarily mean he’s with Emily. Maybe he’s with his girlfriend?"
"That can’t be such a coincidence, can it?" Gina shook her head vigorously.
"It’s indeed possible. Think about it, James wanted to cut off contact with me for his little girlfriend, so I doubt he would be with Emily; otherwise, he wouldn’t be avoiding us both."
"That... He gets along with Emily. They have fun together, not like the dull moments he spends with me."
Sunny chuckled lightly, "You know how dull it is when he’s with you. So you should change something about yourself. Men like beautiful women, but your strong personality, and the way you talk down to him, ruins his pride and self-esteem. If you don’t lower yourself, and the time comes for him to choose, he will definitely choose Emily."
Gina slapped the steering wheel with frustration and said, "So what should I do? Entertain him all day?"
"It doesn’t have to be that way. You should actually play to your strengths. You’re a boss, a woman who people respect yet fear, but if you show him something special, even if it appears dominant, that could give him a sense of pride."
"How do I show something special?"
"You really don’t understand anything, do you? I don’t know how you’ve survived these twenty odd years. It’s simple, drop your status, take the initiative to do something for him. Or imagine there are three people in a room: you, James Brown, and another man. You treat that man coldly but speak gently to James; show the difference. Just treat him differently from others, and things will naturally fall into place."
"Okay, okay, I’ll try in the future. But what about today? He went to the movies with Emily."
"It’s not necessarily just the two of them. Guessing won’t help us at the moment; let’s just head back."
Gina Lopez felt helpless, so she had no choice but to drive Sunny Nguyen back home. Now Sunny’s place was not far from hers, then she went back to her own home where she indeed didn’t find Emily Lopez. This made her even more annoyed. She called Emily multiple times, but Emily’s phone was decisively turned off. She tried calling James Brown as well, and this guy also turned off his phone, which made Gina really want to catch both of them and give them a piece of her mind.
James Brown had no idea that Gina Lopez was freaking out over here. At this moment, he was with Sarah Utah, holding a bag of popcorn and some snacks, sitting inside the cinema eating.
The movie had not started yet when Sarah, a bit worried, said, "Big Brother Brown, Mr. Lopez just called you. Are you really not going back?"
"I’m not going back. It’s after work hours. Why should I listen to her?"
"But... it’s so busy at the company, Mr. Lopez must be looking for you for something important. It’s not good if you don’t go."
"There’s nothing bad about it. These things, a day earlier or a day later, doesn’t make much difference. We are already here, and we bought the movie tickets; wouldn’t it be a waste not to watch it?"
Sarah felt touched and glanced at James Brown sneakily, speaking softly, "It’s not a lot of money. We can watch it another time too."
"No worries. This day has worn me out; I want to relax a bit too." James grabbed a handful of popcorn and threw it into his mouth, as he hadn’t had dinner yet and had to fill his stomach with this instead.
At that moment, the lights in the theater dimmed, and the movie began, which put an end to Sarah and James’ conversation.
The movie being shown today was a romance film. James Brown wasn’t very fond of such movies, but he didn’t hate them either, especially since he was actually about to start dating Emma Campbell now. Watching such films could somehow make him understand a bit, so he wasn’t very gloomy about it.
Sarah, however, was thoroughly enjoying it, wiping her tears secretly during the touching scenes—she was a very emotional girl.
After the movie ended, Sarah was still immersed in the movie’s plot, her eyes slightly red, which made James Brown chuckle and comment, "Was it really that moving?"
"It was so touching. Especially when the male lead risked his life to save the female lead. It was incredibly moving. If there was a man who would risk his life to save me, I would marry him without hesitation." As she spoke, Sarah suddenly remembered the incident in the elevator from the other day. Although nothing had happened, it was only because the elevator hadn’t really malfunctioned. If it had, then James Brown would have truly risked his life to save her.
"It’s all made up in the movies; you believe that stuff?" James laughed and shook his head.
"Of course, I believe. Some things do happen in real life too." Sarah really wanted to say that James Brown was just like the male lead in the movie, but she didn’t have the courage to say it.
"Heh, no wonder these movies make money. Turns out it’s all you young girls who like them. Eh, when did it start raining so hard?"
"Ah, yes. It’s raining so heavily."
When they reached the cinema’s entrance, they saw that it was pouring outside, and the ground was already forming little streams. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel-com
Many people had gathered at the entrance of the cinema; the weather had been fine when they came, and no one had brought umbrellas. Plus, it was late at night, and the girls wouldn’t carry sun umbrellas. Getting out in such heavy rain was going to be quite a hassle.
"Sarah Utah!"
James Brown and Sarah stood at the entrance. Their car was parked about ten meters away from the cinema’s door. In such heavy rain, directly running to the car would definitely get them drenched, so they decided to wait a bit for the rain to lessen. Just then, a woman’s shout came from behind.
James and Sarah turned their heads only to see a glamorously dressed woman walking over with a man’s arm wrapped around hers.
A smile appeared on Sarah’s face as she said, "Lisa Smith, what are you doing here?"
The woman, Lisa Smith, came over to Sarah and said, "I’m here with my husband to watch a movie."
"Oh, you got married?" Sarah exclaimed in surprise, looking at Lisa Smith and then at the man beside her.
"Not yet, but it’s happening soon." Lisa Smith smiled proudly and said, "Let me introduce you. This is John Adams, my fiancé, now a manager at T Corporation."
Sarah quickly responded, "T Corporation, that’s a big corporation! Being a manager there is really impressive."
Lisa Smith proudly lifted her chin and said, "That’s right. This is your boyfriend, right? Where does he work?"
As she spoke, Lisa’s attitude was somewhat condescending, looking down on Sarah and James Brown.
