Chapter 30: The count down.

For a small moment, Weijun thought it was all a joke until he looked into Liwu’s eyes. They were crystal clear, not a single trace of humor.

He was taken aback.

His wife was truly ruthless, and her words confirmed what he suspected. Her bad luck could pick and choose its moments. So, could she control it naturally or was she a system host? If she was one, why hadn’t the Bureau declared it?

"Sixteen....seventeen, eighteen." Majesty counted down loudly for everyone to hear, as if they were blind to the ticking of the clock.

Manman did not show a single effort to leave. She kept looking at Weijun, waiting for him to come to her rescue.

At that moment, the bunny returned, its owner trailing behind, with her two bodyguards and one personal maid. "What is going on here?" Yuening asked, as stern as she could, with her small voice.

Liwu beat everyone to the punch. "I am throwing out the shared wife of your nephews."

Three men winced.

"She is not." Shen Mingxuan argued. "She is really not. Brother, tell sister-in-law."

Shen Biao pointed to Liwu, every cell in her body offended. "You, little lizard.."

A part of the chandelier detached, swinging dangerously low.

People ducked!

"Thirty one." Majesty announced with vigor, before making a vigorous meow.

The air was tense. Nobody moved, like they were all waiting to see what would happen next. For Madam Xu, Shen Biao and Manman, this was a threat to their authority. They were determined to prove to Liwu that she was not in charge and she could not use threats to control the family.

"Fifty eight." Majesty bounced off the ground, hairs standing dangerously.

Only Liwu’s people knew that the cat was preparing to make a move. The moment the countdown ended, the most beautiful system host in the country would be leaving with no hair and a bloody face.

Madam Xu reacted at ’fifty nine’, shoving Manman out as if she was unwanted beggar that had come looking for scraps of food. "You have to leave, I am sorry."

"Mother." Manman cried out, outraged. "Weijun, how can you allow this to happen? We are good friends. I came back for you." Manman screamed.

Madam Xu covered Manman’s mouth with her hand and pinched her waist really hard. "If you are clever, shut up and leave," she hissed.

Weijun’s men closed their eyes.

Liwu turned to her husband, eyebrows raised curiously. "Weijun. Did she just call you Weijun?"

Weijun felt trickles of sweat slowly rolling off his back. He laughed. "Inside joke. Now that I am the temporary master of the city, some people are calling me Weijun junior. It does not mean anything."

Liwu’s doubts were not swayed. She was not as foolish as they thought. First of all, she knew that wherever Weijun was, Hale would be around. It was not just Hale but all of Weijun’s men. Was it a coincidence that all of them were naturally following Weifeng around just because his brother was on vacation?

Secondly, it was the second time the name Weijun was coming up. Once could be a coincidence, but two? She did not believe in coincidences.

Weijun could see the wheels turning in Liwu’s head and he decided to bring up something else. Something unrelated to everything that had happened in the house so far. He raised his phone, revealing the picture that Liwu had shared with the world. "Care to explain this?"

Liwu, looked keenly at the picture. Her eyes did not recognize it and so, she shook her head. "I don’t know what that is but it is amusing. Your body is really nice beneath all the stuffy suits, Sweet Rose. Now the choice of candy...." she laughed. "I did not take you for a cotton candy man."

Weijun grabbed her arm, his jaw clenched so hard that a walnut could be crushed on it. "Do you think that this is a joke?"

His brothers giggled.

"Out." Weijun bellowed.

Not one foot moved. A servant even decided to record the argument. Weijun, pulled Liwu’s hand, dragging her to his bedroom, whose privacy he trusted. He threw the phone on the bed.

Before he could even yell Majesty appeared on the windowsill and settled down. "Go away kitty." He ordered sternly.

Majesty licked his paw. "Not happening cotton candy."

Weijun growled and turned to Liwu. "See this? It is exactly what I am talking about. Do you know how hard I worked to build my reputation in this city?"

Liwu covered her mouth but guffaws escaped.

"What is funny about this?" He asked her.

She ripped her other hand from his vice grip. "Oh, Just that you think you have a reputation to save. Come on Sweet Rose, you are the playboy of the Shen family. The biggest womanizer of One city. Your conquests are more than the bricks it took to build this manor."

Weijun winced. That was Weifeng, not him! And even if it was Weifeng, his brother still had a solid reputation as the Vice president of Shen holdings.

"You are known for giving every beautiful woman you meet a rose and your business card." Liwu rolled her eyes. "In my opinion, being known for cotton candy is a step up for you. And I did not take that picture." She turned to Majesty. "But I know who did. It was the cat."

Weijun gawked. "The cat? This cat took a picture of me and shared it online!"

Majesty meowed smugly, as if confirming his guilt. "In my defense, cotton candy, I just wanted my human to appreciate that which you deny her."

Liwu hissed.

Weijun collapsed onto the bed, burying his face in his hands. "This is a nightmare. When I open my eyes, I will not be married to Bad Luck Tai and the stupid cat will be gone. My reputation as a solid business man will be intact."

"They are calling him the cotton candy gangster." Majesty chuckled.

Liwu patted Weijun’s shoulder. "Sweet Rose, maybe this is a good thing. Consider it good publicity. Sell some bunny ears or launch your own cotton candy line. Think cotton candy ties, cotton candy jewelry, cotton candy pajamas and slippers. Cotton candy hoodies, cotton candy underwear. Rebrand yourself and create an entire cotton candy division based on this. The secret to longevity of any business is diversification." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

Weijun sat up, eyes narrowing. "Diversify...cotton candy underwear?" He paused, then shook his head violently. "No! This is madness, I will not be remembered as the man who sold cotton candy underwear."

Liwu shook her head. "You are thinking small, Sweet Rose. If you won’t do it, I will do it for you. The Tai group will embrace this opportunity and create the worlds biggest cotton candy empire."

Weijun sighed. His life was becoming a nightmare. What had he been thinking, by marrying in Weifeng’s place?
