The Thorne of Destiny-Chapter 166: Enraging The Ember Earth Bear
The disciples of the Cloudcrest Sect, though disheveled, had wide grins on their faces. They were about to vanquish this Rank 4 beast. Not only would they have the carcass of a Rank 4 beast, but they would also obtain the Rank 4 herb, the Vermilion Spirit Grass.
In their minds, their scheme of using Adrian as bait was completely worth it. What was the life of a Foundation Establishment realm cultivator compared to a Rank 4 herb? In their thoughts, sacrificing Adrian was a no-brainer.
Not only was he weak, but he was also alone, with no team to protect him. No one would raise any complaints if someone like that disappeared in the ever-dangerous Crimson Peak mystic realm.
"All right, this beast is already on its last legs. Let’s end it and grab the Vermilion Spirit Grass quickly. That brat must have already been torn to shreds by the Flame Wolf pack, and it wouldn’t be long before they come back.If we waste too much time, we won’t be able to take the herb."
The youth who had a cold visage previously spoke out. His aura was the fiercest among the group, which naturally made him the leader.
Under his leadership, he led his fellow disciples to attack the Rank 4 Flame Wolf, dealing further damage to it. The Rank 4 Flame Wolf, not to be outdone, unleashed fearsome attacks toward the humans.
With its superior intellect that surpassed that of a Rank 3 beast, it had a faint inkling of what the humans wanted. It had seen the greedy looks in their eyes when they stared at the herb growing in the trees. Similarly, it had also seen that look directed toward itself.
Not only were these dastardly humans after its possession, but they also viewed it as a treasure they could obtain. This conclusion was what made it boil with rage. Fine! If they wanted to obtain it, it would make sure they paid a terrible price for it.
The ferocity of its attacks suddenly increased, catching the disciples of the Cloudcrest Sect off guard. The disciple that had previously hooked his arm around Adrian’s head was the most unlucky of them all.
He was unfortunate enough to find himself directly in front of the Flame Wolf when it suddenly burst with great strength. It lunged forward, surprising all of them. The rest were able to dodge or evade the beast’s attack, narrowly avoiding getting struck.
However, he was not so lucky. Perhaps, due to overconfidence, he had lowered his guard, causing him to make such a rookie mistake. He tried to dodge but was too late. Watching the jaws of the beast in front of him, his heart thundered with unspeakable fear. He moved his body but wasn’t able to avoid the attack completely.
His right arm was seized, and with one swift motion, the Rank 4 Flame Wolf tore it right off.
"AARRGGHH!"
He let out a heart-wrenching scream as blood spluttered out from his stump. Seeing one of their own in danger, the leader unleashed a Silver Grade magic skill to prevent the wolf from continuing the attack.
The other two disciples didn’t tarry and went to retrieve their fellow teammate. Their actions were swift and without hesitation, which ensured the survival of their teammate.
It had to be said that, despite how much of a scumbag they were, they were indeed capable individuals. Even the injured disciple had enough presence of mind to prioritize his survival over the pain he was currently experiencing.
With the help of the other two, he was able to retreat a sufficient distance from the Flame Wolf that was being distracted by their leader.
The leader, seeing this, also quickly backed away from the Flame Wolf. Blocking it, even for only a few moments, was a strenuous undertaking.
The four quickly regrouped, with the injured individual fishing out a pill bottle from his storage ring.
With a shaky hand, he opened the lid and popped a healing pill into his mouth. The healing pill he used seemed to be of a high rank, because after only a few moments, the stump that was bleeding profusely before trickled down to a small stream before finally drying out completely.
However, rather than relief, the disciple had a look of profound loss on his face. That pill was one he was saving for when he encountered a life-and-death situation.
Being forced to use it now filled him with sorrow.
However, all was not lost. The Rank 4 Flame Wolf, already weakened, was forced to expend a significant amount of strength for that attack. Now, its situation was even worse than before.
Its breathing was filled with ragged gasps, and it seemed to be struggling to even stay on its feet.
Seeing this, the disciples of the Cloudcrest Sect, previously filled with apprehension, were now cautiously optimistic.
"Just a little more..."
That was the thought passing through their minds. However, before that ’little more’ could come, a sudden commotion drew the attention of everyone present.
In the distance, they could hear the sound of collisions, as if something was crashing into the trees, causing the forest to quake.
Even the Rank 4 Flame Wolf perked up and raised its snout in the direction of the commotion.
With its heightened senses, it had already picked up the scent of its pack members. However, this scent was mixed with that of another beast, and coupled with the metallic stench of blood, caused it to become confused.
Had the members of its pack gone to hunt? But it had clearly just sent them to hunt down that human. Did they encounter this beast on their way back?
While it was smarter than a normal beast, its intelligence was still not high enough for it to deduce the true situation from the limited clues.
It wasn’t just it that was confused; the disciples of the Cloudcrest Sect were equally perplexed. From the sounds, they could tell that something heavy was coming their way.
Then, something utterly astonishing happened to them.
From a distance, they saw the blurry silhouette of a human running toward them. Quickly, the blurry figure became distinct, and their shock became palpable.
The one running toward them was the Foundation Establishment realm cultivator they had used to draw away the wolf pack. They had thought that he would be dead by now; however, their expectations didn’t match the reality in front of them.
However, before they could even register the sight in front of them, a fearsome presence engulfed everyone present. Looking behind him, they saw a huge bear whose fur was a mixture of a matte brown and red hue. Its eyes were filled with rage, and it was charging toward Adrian with fury.
It wasn’t even paying any attention to its environment, crashing into trees from time to time, causing them to topple over. Of course, it wasn’t totally its fault. In order to slow it down, Adrian was charging between the trees, using them to slow down the bear.
However, it could only do so much; despite the fact that the trees in the Crimson Forest were stronger than normal, they couldn’t hold out in front of the Rank 4 Ember Earth Bear.
It was gaining on Adrian, whose face was already covered with sweat. When Adrian spotted the disciples of the Cloudcrest Sect, his face bloomed with a smile.
Though he was still in disguise, the joy in his heart couldn’t be hidden. With a loud yell, he called out,
"Fellow friends, don’t worry, I brought you guys some help to deal with the Flame Wolf!"
He spoke with such righteousness as if this were all part of his plan. Upon hearing his words, the disciples of the Cloudcrest Sect wanted to cough up blood.
What bloody help? You are obviously being chased by that damn beast. How is this supposed to be of any help to us? That was what they wanted to scream, but they couldn’t find the words.
Unlike Adrian, they didn’t have the knowledge inheritance of a Supreme Being. They couldn’t recognize what kind of magic beast this bear was. However, whether they recognized it or not wasn’t the issue. They had to find a way to deal with this new threat.
Adrian didn’t stop but continued leading the Ember Earth Bear toward them. Seeing the massive beast coming closer snapped them out of their stupor, causing them to panic.
The Ember Earth Bear, seeing the other individuals present, let out a hate-filled roar, particularly when it spotted the Rank 4 Flame Wolf. Spotting another beast at the same rank as itself, a glint flashed through its eyes.
Especially when it saw just how injured it was, a chilling thought crept into its mind. Wasn’t this just a free meal falling into its lap? If it were able to consume this meal, perhaps it would be able to advance further in this rank.
Quickly, its attention shifted from Adrian to the others.
