Chapter 118: Ch 118: Lynn’s invitation- Part 7

It was the media’s job to twist my words and turn them against myself. I knew that very well, but I still fell for the jab and felt my anger rise.

Before I could show any of my emotions, Lynn noticed what was happening, and he pushed himself in front of me to save me from the reporter’s barrage of questions.

"I am afraid that I will have to ask you all to back down for now. As interested as you are in Ace, you cannot forget your manners. He’s part of the Luminous Guild, and I would like you all to treat him like that as well."

Lynn told the people in front of him, and they all looked taken aback by his protectiveness. They had never seen him act like this regarding anyone.

And that was not all. Lynn was not only being overprotective, but he was also shielding Ace from prying eyes. That almost looked like an alpha protecting their omega.

Lynn’s intentions were pure—wanting to help Ace out and protect him from the others. But for the hungry reporters that were waiting for their chance to be able to write anything they could get their hands on, it felt like a golden opportunity.

So the bold ones stepped forward with their eyes shining with curiosity and certainty.

"Hunter Lynn, Hunter Ace, we have a very important question to ask you. Are you both dating? Is that why Ace decided to leave the association and join Luminous Guild? Can we expect good news soon?"

The reporters asked as they huffed in excitement. Even if Lynn denied any claims that were made here, he was afraid that he wouldn’t be able to handle them.

"We are not dating. It’s just basic courtesy to help out a fellow member of the guild. I would have done the same for anyone else who did not want to deal with the media."

The alpha assured, but the reporters were not even listening at that point. They were busy cooking their own fantasies in their minds regarding the alpha and the omega couple.

"Aww, there is no need to be shy, Guild Leader. We understand why you would want to keep your affair with Hunter Ace a secret. There would be too much noise if the news got out, right? Don’t worry! We will keep your secret."

One of the journalists giggled as she spoke. She was an omega who seemed to find too much pleasure in imagining the pairing in front of her.

Lynn sighed at this behavior before he decided that it was enough. He clutched the bridge of his nose before giving the reporters in front of him a glare.

"If I see any reports making stupid claims that I and Hunter Ace are in a relationship, I will make sure you are never able to show your face in public again. You and your firms will be eradicated. Do you understand?"

The alpha threatened, and that just made the situation worse.

Even those who were not convinced that there was something going on between me and Lynn had to take a step back and consider the possibility.

I watched this all with a numbness that I had come to associate with the media and their bullshit.

They had already written dozens of articles about me and Erin (when Erin had confessed to the media that he saw me as nothing more than a little brother). So I knew that there was no way they would back down unless they got something else to talk about.

And if so, then I was going to give them something to talk about anyway.

"Excuse me, but would you stop making stupid claims? The one I like might misunderstand if you keep saying things like that."

Theo’s image flashed in my mind as I spoke... not that I had anyone specific that I romantically liked at the moment. These words were more to get the press to back off.

Everything went quiet all of a sudden, and then, everything exploded as everyone turned to look at me.

"Hunter Ace, please tell us more about this. You have a lover—? Who is it?"

"You... like someone already?"

The reporters were troublesome as they tried to tear me apart to get the answer to their question, but Lynn’s expression was what struck me.

He looked like a lost child that had just been told his parents won’t come back anymore. He looked abandoned, and I grabbed his arm to pull him away.

"I won’t be answering any more questions. Lynn, we need to get back. We have work to do."

The alpha followed me with a numb expression on his face, and we relaxed once we sat down in his car.

"Hurry up and drive. I don’t think I can take this anymore. The media is ruthless."

I told the alpha, and he followed my orders with a numb expression. But as he slowly came around, he decided to turn toward me and ask me the important question.

"Kyle, do you really have someone you like, or did you just say that to get the media off your back? Do you need help to woo the person you like? I can help you make them jealous."

Lynn joked around, but some of his words did not sound like a joke to me. His eyes looked too serious, and I felt myself looking away from him.

"Hmm, I said those words to get the reporters off my back. They won’t leave me alone otherwise. I am not in a position to like someone or confess since there is no telling when I would have to leave for a dungeon. And truthfully, I am not interested in a relationship at this point either."

I told the alpha, and he blinked as he looked at me. He looked half-disappointed and half-relieved.

"I see. I did think that it was the case as well. But would you mind not doing that in the future? These reporters can get a little... annoying at times. It would be better for you to save yourself the trouble and not give them any room to twist your words."

Lynn told me, and I knew he was right. But still, a part of me just wanted these reporters to panic and leave me alone.

So I did not reply as we headed back to the Luminous Guild.
