Chapter 146: Ch 146: Here to Help- Part 6

"I... don’t think it is a good idea for me to work here after all. I don’t want to burden you all, so I should take my leave now."

Rhiner told the owners of the settlement, and the stranger who tried to ’help’ him went pale and gave him a startled look.

"W-What are you saying? Boss, you know how the newbies are... right? They don’t understand the dangers of this place and try to do things on their own. So please, forgive this person as well. I will talk to him."

The stranger tried hard to appease his boss, and the boss lady gave Rhiner a chilling look.

"Hmm, alright. Go ahead and make him apologize to me and beg me to take him under my wing. Otherwise, both him and you can die trying."

The female looked at her nails as she spoke these words, her eyes burning into Rhiner’s, and it made him look away.

He felt frozen in place under that intense gaze, and he tried to use his pheromones to resist the female in front of him.

But no matter how much pheromones he let out, and how much pressure he tried to exert, the female in front of him looked unfazed.

She felt like an alpha but had no pheromones of an alpha either.

In fact, no one here seemed to have pheromones or reacted to his pheromones either. They all looked and felt like... betas... no, even different.

The stranger who initially helped him out quickly elbowed him to ’pay attention.’

"Hey, I don’t know what you are thinking about, nor do I care. You just need to start paying attention and beg for your life. Otherwise, you are done for. You don’t know what our lady can do—"

Before the stranger finished speaking, Rhiner grabbed him and pulled him behind himself and created his body as he shielded him from the female’s attack.

His ability allowed him to create a shield, and everyone looked startled by what he just did.

"Oh—! So you have not lost your ability just yet? That’s good to know. But it is only a matter of time before you are forced to lose your ability. Why don’t you surrender yourself to me before that, and I’ll help you not lose it?"

The female asked in an intrigued voice.

She seemed to like the fact that Rhiner had chosen to fight back.

"Tsk, I will not back down. I am here to take care of this dungeon and my... colleague."

He wanted to say friend, but he was not sure whether he and Ace qualified as friends or not. The female just shrugged before she attacked him for real.

Rhiner was on the defensive, but he got no opportunity to attack in such an enclosed space. Other people were starting to panic and run away.

"Are you not afraid that you are ruining your business doing this? You might injure another of your customers."

Rhiner told the stranger, and she just shrugged.

"If my customers get hurt, then it’s because they are weak. What has that got to do with me?"

She asked as she formed a blast of energy in her palm and hurled it toward Rhiner. He dodged, and the energy headed toward the last stranger who had not left the hall.

In fact, unlike others, this person was relaxing and not bothering to look at what was happening around him.

Rhiner felt responsible for that person’s life and decided to try and save him.

"Hey, watch out. You are getting attacked..."

The stranger looked up from where he was looking down at the moment, and his eyes met Rhiner’s before he looked at the incoming attack and waved his hand.

Not only did the attack vanish, but the female attacker’s powers vanished as well.

She gasped as she clutched her now powerless hands and looked at the stranger with fear and reverence in her eyes.

"Y-You... who are you? How did you do that... no, more important, why did you do that? Isn’t this a zone where the participants of this succession war can do what they want?"

The female asked in a fearful voice.

Unlike Rhiner, she seemed to have a better idea about what this place was. And the new stranger finally decided to speak up.

"I don’t like you, so I stopped your attack and stripped you of your powers. I do not need a person like you to be chosen here. As for saving this man... someone I know would be disappointed if I did not do this."

The man spoke, and his voice sounded somewhat familiar. Rhiner was sure he had heard the man speak before.

’No way—! That can’t be possible, right? I would have remembered if I ever met anyone this strong, and this does not feel like Ace. Just how or what is this stranger up to?’

Rhiner could not figure it out, and neither could the female in front of him.

"B-But master, I did it for your sake. All my power and influence were a gift..."

"Oh! In that case, I am just taking them all back. Unfortunately, I no longer have a need for you."

As soon as that new stranger spoke these words, the female’s eyes widened, and she tried to reach for the male and beg for her life.

But her body disintegrated into dust. Rhiner was beyond stunned and did not know what to do.

"Well, that’s one thing taken care of. Now, what should I do with you?"

The stranger asked, and Rhiner was fully alert. He did not want to die either, but he also did not know how to resist such a mighty power.

Luckily for him, the stranger seemed to have no intention of harming him.

"You should head back out and find your companion. He’s in a dangerous position and might appreciate your help. If you want to find him, then follow this trail."

The stranger told Rhiner as he created a glowing blue trail for him.

Rhiner looked at the trail before he turned toward that man to thank him. But the man was nowhere to be seen.

The stranger had disappeared and left behind something familiar— a hint of his pheromone that made Rhiner feel weak to his stomach at the stranger’s strength.
