The Top Omega Hunter Wants a Quiet Life [BL]-Chapter 177: Ch : Coming Back- Part 3
I had thought that Emma and I were closer than we were. But it was clearly my delusion. The person I had been closest to was Theo and no one else.
The kindness Emma had shown me was rare, but it was nothing special for her. I could still tell that she was more excited to have her son with her than she was to talk to me... not that I blamed her.
After all, Edwin was her flesh and blood, someone she had known since birth and someone she had seen grow up.
Compared to Edwin, I had been a far smaller part of her life. So I could understand why I was not no. 1 for Emma.
But knowing the truth did not make it hurt any less for me. Not to mention, the fact that Emma did not recall Theo also left a sour taste in my throat that I could not get rid of.
"Emma, thank you for taking care of me for all this time. But I think it’s time I chose the path I was meant to be. I will be leaving to join Luminous now."
I told Emma without any emotions in my voice, and Emma looked taken aback by my words. Her eyes widened a little, and her lips wobbled as she heard what I had to say to her.
"Y-You’re leaving? But why? What did I do wrong? If you tell me, then I can help you out—"
The female asked as she trembled just ever so slightly. But I felt emotionally exhausted talking to her.
Still, since it was Emma, I decided that it was fine for her to know.
"It’s not your fault. None of this is your fault, so do not worry. I just... wanted a change of pace, and I want to help people. Too many people have gotten hurt because I was not in the service and wanted to run away. Now, it’s time I head back."
I was surprised at how calm and collected my voice actually was when it came out of my mouth. None of my hesitation showed on my face as I looked at the female in front of me.
Emma looked shocked, but it slowly merged into a knowing look on her face.
"I see. So peace did not suit your taste after all. If you are going back on your own accord, then that’s fine. There is no need for me to stop you either. Just remember, you can come back anytime."
Emma told me, and I felt calmness in my heart. A part of me had been worried that she wouldn’t understand me.
But now I could see that it was an unfounded fear on my part.
"Thank you, Emma. I will see you again soon."
I told her as I went to my room to pack my stuff.
The room felt full of memories that threatened to overwhelm me, and I felt myself choke on my emotions. And then, I went back to packing.
It was extremely easy for me to pack my stuff. Most of it were things that I had purchased after I started to live with Emma and Ben, and the rest was their own stuff. I myself barely owned anything in here.
My hands moved over a small bottle as I packed, and a sharp pain twisted my heart as I noticed that it was the bottle that Kuro had used.
It no longer had a user and looked lonely on my nightstand.
"Kuro... in the end, you gave yourself up. There was no need to do that. I would have been just fine had you not been there."
I spoke out loud, but there was no one to hear my words and tell me otherwise. Kuro was lost to me as well, and it was my own fault.
But I had no time to mope around. I quickly grabbed the bottle Kuro used to live in and went outside. I needed to take a deep breath to calm myself down.
"Kyle, are you leaving? So soon? At least have dinner with us."
Ben blocked my way as he asked me. He looked worried for me, and I felt happy that someone was willing to care for me.
Unfortunately, I had to decline his offer because I was in a rush to get away from this place filled with memories.
"Ben, I just... need to go now. Thank you for all your help up until now. I promise I won’t forget your kind help."
I told Ben, and he sighed. Unlike Emma, he could immediately tell that nothing he could say would make me stay. I was a lost cause to him.
"Alright, I understand. But please, do take care of yourself. And if you ever find yourself in trouble, do remember that you can come back here. Both Emma and I will fight for your sake."
Ben told me, and I nodded before I walked out.
I no longer had a need to stay in this place, and yet, the memories threatened to pull me back in there.
"What a pity. I truly wanted to be a family with you all. But that is not my destiny. For now, I should prioritize finding Theo first. Everything else can come later."
I told myself as I blinked to strengthen my resolve. And then, I walked across the street to get into Luminous once more.
The receptionist gave me a curious look, but since she recognized me, she did not say anything this time. It was almost disappointing when that happened since I expected someone to come and stop me.
But alas, I walked over to the elevator and quickly walked inside it and took out my staff card (given to me by Lynn) before I arrived at the staff floor. Then, I walked over to the room written on the key card and opened it.
It was almost the size of the entire PC café I worked at, but I felt no joy in my heart. This room was a place to sleep and live, but it lacked a soul to be called a ’home.’
