The Trending Topic Herself: The Villainess is the Superstar!-Chapter 113: Great Survival Challenge’s Beloved Daughter
The director had been making shows for years and had never seen anyone like Maya Monroe, who was so lazy yet enjoyed self-deprecating humor. It seemed her goal in coming on the show wasn’t to gain popularity, but to lose it.
[Maya: Hahaha, I’m dying of laughter seeing the director’s helpless and horrified face once again!]
[I’m the Fairy Old Woman: Maya, this kid really doesn’t treat us like outsiders, haha, even if you snore, grind your teeth, and pick your feet, I love you!]
[Sunny: Maya’s self-deprecation is very brave!]
[Little Smarty: I was just thinking, the five-member team spent hours strategizing, but the crew wasn’t this worried. Yet when it comes to Maya, they’re so anxious. I feel like if Maya doesn’t start moving, the director might have to carry her to find food, hahaha!]
[Bell Ringer: No doubt Maya is the "darling daughter" of ’Survival,’ hahaha, the crew really has worried themselves sick!] 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
[Maya: Maya, darling, always stay happy. It’s getting late now, it’d be better to hurry and find some food!]
The director glanced at the slowly darkening sky and began persuading Maya Monroe again, "Maya, it’s getting late now. You should hurry and look for food!"
Maya nodded. Since the director had stopped insisting on her switching tents, she had relaxed quite a bit.
Maya harbored a guilty secret and couldn’t bear to part with her snacks, so of course, she didn’t want to switch tents.
To avoid the director bringing up the tent topic again, Maya answered briskly this time, "Okay."
The director felt quite relieved. He thought Maya was very likeable and had high potential.
Under the eager gaze of the director, Maya set out once more on her food-finding mission.
Due to her unwillingness, Maya’s pace was still quite fast, with the panting cameraman following behind.
The resources of wild fruits in the tropical rainforest were quite abundant. Compared to the previous deserted island, finding food might be somewhat easier. This was perhaps also one reason the crew didn’t use prop cards.
Maya had no fondness for wild fruits; after all, in the last task world, she’d eaten quite a bit, and their sour taste was unpalatable.
If not for survival, she figured no one would like to eat those wretched things.
Now armed with various snacks and a strong aversion to wild fruits, Maya only wanted to find her target as quickly as possible to complete the task.
Drawing on her past experiences, Maya soon located her target.
She stopped in front of a lush, verdant tree. The fruit tree was about one meter high, with dense foliage and slender, bamboo-like but slightly thicker leaves. The small, half-fist-sized delicate fruits covered the branches. Their brown skin had a hint of green at the top, and the dry, wrinkled exterior wasn’t appealing.
Maya leaned closer. She hadn’t seen this plant before, but just judging by its appearance, it seemed non-toxic.
Of course, making judgments based solely on a cursory look wasn’t feasible. Maya had long developed an extremely cautious approach to food in harsh environments.
She squinted to examine it closely. The plant showed clear signs of having been picked before, with some fruits showing bite marks that didn’t seem human-sized, likely from small animals.
There were faint claw prints on the ground, numerous and messy, suggesting this tree had been visited many times.
Maya slid her fingers over the slightly rough fruit skin and formed a plan.
Since many animals had eaten from this fruit tree, it indicated that the tree was non-toxic.
The air was sultry here, and Maya had long since shed her down coat. When she came to find wild fruits, she didn’t forget to bring her coat along.
Although there were plenty of large leaves around, they weren’t as durable as a coat, so Maya decided to use her coat directly.
She grabbed a branch and deftly picked the wild fruits, finally using her expensive down coat to wrap them all up, showing an impressive lack of concern for small details.
Once she felt she had enough, Maya didn’t want to continue looking for other wild fruits. She turned back the way she came.
The cameraman hurried after her. "Maya, are you planning to go back to the camp?"
They hadn’t forgotten that Maya had an excellent memory.
Taking a moment, she glanced at him, "Yeah, I’m still tired!"
Maya had been out for only about ten minutes, and she was already heading back. The audience enjoyed the exploration process, but how could Maya accumulate popularity if she was so lazy?
The cameraman hinted to her gently, "Maya, look, it’s still early. Why don’t you explore a bit more?"
Maya didn’t plan to follow his lead, "I’ve found food. Why stay outside?"
Maya was genuinely smart, but in certain areas, she would selectively tune out some of the messages around her.
The cameraman sighed, "There’s still time. Why don’t you take a look at other wild fruits? Aren’t you also looking for the golden key? You might as well search for clues."
Maya was silent for a moment.
She didn’t intend to search for the golden key. After all, the other five people were already racking their brains trying to find it. She could just relax and wait for the result. Why make things hard for herself? Life is about enjoying the moment, and if she could slack off, she would.
But with the constant hints and reminders from the cameraman for her to stay out longer to find other fruits, Maya got annoyed and had to head back to search for more wild fruits.
Initially, she patiently analyzed and put on a show, but soon she got impatient. Whenever she saw a fruit tree, she’d dash over and start picking randomly, pretending to stuff some into her mouth.
Sure enough.
The staff hurriedly stopped her, "No! Maya, you should choose another fruit to eat!"
Maya smugly set the fruit down and casually tossed away the wild fruit in her hand. She never really intended to eat the fruit; she just wanted to gauge the crew’s reaction to save time on picking fruits.
Before the reality show went live, the crew must have thoroughly studied and understood this area. It was hard to believe Maya had roamed so many places without encountering any particularly aggressive beasts. This could only mean one thing: this area was under the crew’s control. The crew forbade her from straying too far, precisely because they were worried about her stepping out of the pre-designated "circle."
Though ’Great Survival Challenge’ advertised itself with buzzwords like "real," "challenge," and "crisis" to attract viewers, it was indeed quite successful to some extent. However, just appearing as an "entertainment reality show" domestically meant it was a product of meticulous layout and thought. There was absolutely no real danger, and the crew definitely wouldn’t abandon the guests to any danger without concern.
