The Trending Topic Herself: The Villainess is the Superstar!-Chapter 187: Another Encounter with Tristan Rowe
Maya watched Quentin Rowe and Erin Hayes in a heated argument, and she really had no interest in getting involved.
Maya turned around, planning to leave quickly while they weren’t paying attention.
She walked briskly.
"Maya!"
Maya recognized Quentin’s voice, not expecting her to come looking for her so soon again.
"Maya, stop right there! Turning away the moment you see your aunt! Is this your attitude and upbringing?! What are you avoiding?!"
Maya smirked; Quentin just couldn’t let go of the word "upbringing."
Maya’s footsteps didn’t falter, regardless of Quentin’s shouting from behind; she wouldn’t stop.
No matter what Quentin thought, Maya wouldn’t care; she’d just pretend she hadn’t heard anything.
Suddenly, a young child’s voice rang out, "Sister-in-law!"
The voice carried a crying tone.
Maya paused slightly, recalling that it was Woody Moss’s voice.
"Woody, where are you going?!!"
Woody broke free from Quentin’s hand, moving his little short legs forward like crazy. He looked chubby but wasn’t slow at all.
There wasn’t much distance, and in just a moment, Woody was already hugging Maya’s leg.
He was crying pitifully, his nose red, and he was shouting, "Sister-in-law, help me! My mom is so fierce! Please help me, boohoo..."
After he finished, a few more tears fell, and he held onto Maya’s leg tightly without letting go.
Maya paused and lowered her head to see Woody’s dark, shining eyes.
Maya never considered herself to look gentle, even thinking she looked "bad," so why was Woody seeking protection from her? She had only hugged him once before.
Woody clutched the corner of Maya’s shirt with his chubby hand, eyes red, saying, "Hug hug~ Hug hug~~"
Despite not being a good person, Maya thought she couldn’t bring herself to heartlessly push away a child.
Especially since Woody, with his roundness, appeared somewhat cute to Maya, who rarely interacted with children. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Maya bent slightly to pick up Woody.
Woody hugged Maya’s neck tightly, but he didn’t use much strength, so it wasn’t uncomfortable.
His little face pressed close, and the soft touch stunned Maya; she squinted over to see Woody’s big, gleaming eyes like black grapes.
Quentin had a good son.
Finding herself unable to dodge, Maya walked over with Woody in her arms. In truth, Maya wasn’t afraid of Quentin; she just found it somewhat troublesome.
Seeing Woody so affectionate towards Maya, a look of inquiry and complexity flashed in Erin’s eyes.
Though Woody appeared to be a cute, chubby bundle, his personality wasn’t as adorable as it seemed. Sometimes he was willful with little temper, usually very proud, and sometimes wouldn’t even let others touch him.
No one expected him to take such a liking to Maya after just a few meetings, depending on her immensely.
However, in truth, it was only during the old lady’s last birthday banquet that Woody exhibited fondness towards Maya; before that, his attitude towards her was lukewarm...
It was indeed strange...
In just a few steps, Maya already felt her elbow aching.
She observed the chubby little one in her arms; indeed, he wasn’t light, with a round face...
Quentin stared at Maya fiercely, her face almost turning blue with anger.
"Woody, come down quickly, come to mom’s side!"
Hearing her severe tone, Woody shrunk his body; he was just a five-year-old child.
"I don’t want to! I want sister-in-law to hold me! Not you!"
It was just childish anger, but Quentin couldn’t contain her rage: "I told you to come down now! Not listening to me anymore? If you continue like this, you won’t come home with me!"
Every time she saw her son so close to Maya, Quentin felt an inexplicable fury. Usually, she excelled at everything; rarely did anything dissatisfy her, but ever since confronting Maya... She found she seldom felt at ease.
Quentin had disliked Maya before, but then she was just foolish-looking, not like now, where she was sharp all over, swaying arrogantly as if she would pierce someone’s flesh and blood.
With Quentin’s sternness, Woody’s tears rolled down once again.
Quentin was even more furious: "Why are you crying!!"
Instead of stopping, Woody’s cries grew louder and louder.
Maya felt her shoulder becoming wet, not expecting the child to cry this much.
"Stop crying."
With just a faint tone, Woody stopped crying instantly, his big eyes staring dumbly, tears barely hanging on his face, making him look even more pitiful.
Quentin’s words never got through to him, but a stranger’s simple coaxing, and he listened; Quentin’s anger was almost indescribable.
Erin sighed, walked over, and took out a handkerchief to wipe Woody’s tears.
She reached out her hand, "Maya, give Tiana to me, I’ll take her to find the old lady."
Woody hesitated for a moment but still reached out his hand.
With the weight in her arms suddenly gone, Maya breathed a slight sigh of relief.
Quentin demanded, "What do you mean by that?"
Erin lowered her head slightly, "Doesn’t it pain you seeing him cry like this all the time? Such a small child..."
Quentin was about to lose it when Erin continued, "Ian is over there too, maybe seeing him will make Tiana happy."
Woody shook his head silently; he didn’t like Ian at all.
Not only because Ian looked fierce, but also because Quentin tried to deliberately make him get close to Ian. Despite his young age, Woody felt the purest "dislike."
When Quentin made him learn music, he initially showed some interest, but after being scolded by Quentin, he lost it.
Quentin’s expression changed slightly, seemingly controlling her temper: "If that’s the case... take him over for a look then."
Engaging with excellent people only makes you more outstanding, Quentin firmly believed in this.
"Maya, you look around on your own first; I’ll come find you later." Erin carried Woody in her arms.
Woody blinked his big eyes, seeming reluctant to part with Maya: "Sister-in-law, remember to come play with Tiana..."
Maya nodded.
Watching this, Quentin felt another wave of inexplicable stifling in her heart.
*
Unknowingly, Maya walked into the garden she’d been to before. Unlike in midwinter, the flowers in the garden were almost all in full bloom now, with some new varieties added, competing for splendor.
Maya strolled slowly to the pond to watch the carp and some other types of fish, which she couldn’t quite distinguish.
Her hand reached into her pocket to take out a pre-prepared candied fruit, tearing open the wrapper and popping it into her mouth.
She casually kicked a stone off the stone bridge, the gentle breeze tousling her hair, making her mood seemingly much lighter.
"I didn’t expect to meet you here again; it seems you really like the garden..."
A voice, carrying a bit of laughter, sounded.
Maya turned around and the first thing she saw was a pair of shimmering peach blossom eyes, enveloped in a layer like shallow water.
