Chapter 503: 506. Outgoing Girls (1st Update)

Chu Yunrong looked at a photo of her grandson and said, "It would be nice if An’an had a little sister." Her remark resonated with everyone, and both old Sirs looked at Fu Hengyi and Shen Qinglan with hope.

Old Sir Fu spoke first, "Qinglan, have you guys considered when to have a second child?" After saying this, he quickly added, fearing Shen Qinglan might misunderstand, "Grandpa isn’t insisting you have a second child, just asking if you have such plans."

As soon as the topic of a second child came up, Fu Hengyi felt a headache coming on. Just as he was about to speak, Shen Qinglan beat him to it, "Fu Hengyi and I do plan to have another child, but having children also depends on fate. We’ll wait for fate to bring us another child."

Old Sir Fu nodded in agreement, "Yes, yes, this kind of thing depends on fate. No rush, no rush." The old man was just glad to know they had a plan.

Fu Hengyi’s expression darkened slightly; he had wanted to say he didn’t want another child, but Shen Qinglan had spoken first.

"If we have another daughter, that would be perfect," Old Sir Shen said cheerfully, clearly also very excited about the prospect of a second grandchild. Their family had the means, and having only An’an did seem a bit lonely.

"I think so too," Shen Qinglan softly agreed.

"Actually, one child is enough," Fu Hengyi said quietly, but his words were ignored as everyone was busy discussing photos of An’an in girls’ clothing.

In the afternoon, Yu Xiaoxuan brought Guoguo over to play. Guoguo, now two years old, was vivacious and lively like her mother, but she looked just like her father. Han Yi often joked that thankfully, his good genes hadn’t gone to waste.

"Brother An’an!" Guoguo exclaimed upon seeing An’an and immediately hugged him. Since she was small, she had played with An’an, and they were very close.

An’an also liked Guoguo and took her hand, leading her to see his newly bought toys.

Han Yi sat on the couch, occasionally glancing at Fu Hengyi. Finally, Fu Hengyi looked up from his book and gave him a gracious glance, "Speak if you have something to say."

"Are you okay now?" Han Yi lowered his voice.

"When have I not been okay?" Fu Hengyi responded coolly.

Sheesh, who was it that just a few days ago had been holding them hostage with "drowning sorrows in alcohol," staging a runaway from home scene, only agreeing to return when Shen Qinglan came to fetch him?

But Shen Qinglan must have said something to Fu Hengyi, for she had quickly placated him.

Han Yi’s curiosity was reignited, and he leaned in closer, "Tell me, what was all that drama about the other day? What did the little sister-in-law do to make you run away from home?"

"Run away from home?" Fu Hengyi pondered these words, his gaze cooling as he looked at Han Yi. Who said he had run away from home?

"It wasn’t running away from the Li Family, could it really be that you missed us that much?" he teased. Supposedly they were gathering, but all he did was stare at his phone with longing.

Fu Hengyi would never admit he missed them, much less talk about running away from home. To him, it was just a domestic tease between him and Shen Qinglan.

As long as Fu Hengyi himself didn’t want to talk, nobody could pry anything from him. Han Yi’s speculative attempts yielded nothing about the reason behind Fu Hengyi’s dramatic episode, leaving his curiosity unsatisfied. Han Yi idly slouched on the couch.

After dinner, Han Yi and Yu Xiaoxuan were about to take Guoguo home, but she vehemently refused, throwing a tantrum at the mention of going home, "I don’t want to go home. I want Brother An’an!"

"Be good, we can come see Brother An’an again tomorrow. How about going home with Daddy now?" Han Yi tried to soothe his daughter.

Guoguo shook her head fiercely, clinging to Fu Hengyi’s leg, "I want Brother An’an."

Fu Hengyi, looking at the little figure hugging his leg, softened his gaze and turned to Han Yi, "Let Guoguo stay here tonight."

Yu Xiaoxuan was indifferent, looking at her daughter, "How about you sleep with Brother An’an tonight, okay?"

Guoguo nodded, "Okay."

"No way."

"No way." Three voices rang out at once. The first was Guoguo’s, the next An’an’s, and naturally, the last was Han Yi’s.

Beside them, Guoguo’s big eyes filled with tears as she looked at An’an, feeling wronged, "Brother An’an."

"An’an, why don’t you want to sleep with your sister?" Yu Xiaoxuan asked curiously. An’an really liked Guoguo and was always good to her, sharing his toys and snacks with her whenever she visited. Now, he suddenly didn’t want to sleep with Guoguo, arousing Yu Xiaoxuan’s curiosity.

"Daddy said I should sleep with my wife," An’an stated matter-of-factly, "Guoguo is my sister."

At that remark, everyone turned to look at Fu Hengyi, whose expression remained calm, as if he had not been the one to plant that idea. Shen Qinglan guessed immediately that Fu Hengyi had just wanted to coax An’an into sleeping alone.

"When Guoguo grows up, she’ll be your wife," Yu Xiaoxuan, bursting into laughter, teased An’an.

"An’an is my little sister," An’an insisted, because Mommy told him that Guoguo was his little sister, and he should take care of her.

"An’an, Guoguo is your little sister now, but when she grows up, she will be your wife, so you can sleep with Guoguo now," Yu Xiaoxuan was always keen on forging child betrothals.

Han Yi frowned, Guoguo was his daughter, and he had not agreed to any of this.

An’an turned to his mother, "Mommy, can Guoguo sleep with me?"

Shen Qinglan smiled and nodded, "Even if she’s a little sister, she can still sleep with her brother."

An’an immediately smiled, walked over, and took Guoguo’s hand, "Guoguo, we’ll sleep together tonight."

Guoguo’s eyes brimmed with tears, her face full of reluctance, but upon hearing An’an’s words, she instantly smiled, "Okay, Brother An’an, let’s sleep together."

"Qinglan, I’ll leave Guoguo with you then, I’ll come to pick her up tomorrow," Yu Xiaoxuan wasn’t worried at all about leaving Guoguo here alone, unlike Han Yi, who, looking at his daughter, tried to coax her into coming home, "Guoguo, if you sleep here tonight, you won’t see Daddy and Mommy, and Daddy won’t be there to tell you bedtime stories."

Guoguo waved her little hand, "Bye bye, Daddy."

Han Yi: ...Aren’t daughters supposed to be Daddy’s past lovers, the little cotton-padded jacket that feels so warm? What happened with his?

Guoguo didn’t know that she had left her father feeling utterly heartbroken with just one sentence, holding An’an’s hand, she was extremely delighted, "Let’s go, Brother An’an."

The two little ones held hands as they went upstairs, not even glancing at her heartbroken father, while Han Yi stood in the chill, shedding copious tears.

"Let’s go, there’s nothing to see, Guoguo’s gone upstairs already," Yu Xiaoxuan tugged at Han Yi, striding off without hesitation.

"That little sister-in-law, Guoguo likes to drink half a cup of milk before bed, likes bedtime stories, likes..." Han Yi was reluctant to leave.

"Alright, alright, Qinglan will take good care of Guoguo," Yu Xiaoxuan was impatient.

Shen Qinglan chuckled and went upstairs to bathe the two little ones. When she came out, she saw Fu Hengyi sitting by An’an’s bed, holding a hairdryer, gently drying Guoguo’s hair.

Shen Qinglan raised an eyebrow; she hadn’t seen him dry An’an’s hair before. Yet that night, Fu Hengyi unexpectedly volunteered to tell the kids a bedtime story.

Shen Qinglan quietly scoffed; this insincere man claimed he didn’t want a second child, yet he clearly adored his daughter.

*************

In Eden’s private estate in Country Y.

"Cissily is doing much better today, she should be able to wake up soon." After examining Cissily, Eden spoke to Andre, who stared at him in disbelief, "Are you serious?"

Eden smiled, "When have I ever lied to you?" Three days ago, Cissily, who had been in a coma for nearly three years, suddenly showed signs of regaining consciousness, and her condition had indeed improved day by day.

"She will definitely wake up within a month," Eden asserted.

Andre gazed steadily at Cissily, his hand trembling gently by his side. A month might seem long for others, but for Andre, who had been waiting for nearly three years, it felt like a miracle.

"This is wonderful, so wonderful," Andre was at a loss for words. He had prepared himself for Cissily to remain in this comatose state for a lifetime, but now Eden was telling him that the person lying on the bed would soon wake up, talk to him, and smile at him like they used to—no one could understand his excitement at this moment.

Eden patted his shoulder, "Yes, God bless. You can take her out to get some sunlight these days."

Andre nodded heedlessly. Eden knew he needed time to calm his emotions, so he left the room, giving the pair some space.

Over the past few years, Eden had focused his efforts on Cissily and Jin Enxi. Jin Enxi’s face had healed, and Cissily was about to wake up; his task was nearly complete, and he could finally breathe a sigh of relief.

With that thought, Eden grabbed his car keys and headed out, perhaps he could celebrate a little.

Eden went to a bar, relieved that a weight had been lifted from his shoulders, his mood was excellent. He ordered a drink and sat at the bar, savoring it slowly while occasionally glancing at the men and women who came in.

"Hey, handsome, are you alone? Mind if I join you for a drink?" A blonde, blue-eyed beauty approached Eden with a drink in hand. Eden raised his glass—his mood was good today, and he didn’t mind having a drink with a stranger.

"Is this handsome man here for a flirt?" Seeing Eden’s gaze on the patrons, the blonde beauty asked with a smile, she was here for the same reason.

Eden just smiled, neither confirming nor denying it, and the blonde beauty took his behavior as an affirmation, her eyes lighting up.

She placed her hand on Eden’s shoulder, leaning close to his ear, her tone suggestive, "So, what do you think of me?" Eden was good-looking, and she was interested in getting closer to him.

Eden glanced at the hand on his shoulder and spoke softly, "Sorry, I like men."

The blond-haired, blue-eyed beauty upon hearing this shrugged regretfully, "Alright then, I wish you a delightful hunting." Saying this, she took her glass and, swinging her hips, walked away. Even the best-looking man was useless if he had no interest in women.

"It’s been two years, when did you start liking men?" A familiar female voice sounded beside Eden, and he turned to see Su Qing.

Eden slightly raised his eyebrows, not expecting to encounter Su Qing here. She sat down beside him, picked up the glass in front of him, and took a sip.

"When did you get here?" Eden asked, as if he hadn’t seen his glass being taken.

Su Qing drained the drink in one gulp and signaled the bartender for another before saying, "Just arrived today."

"What are you here for this time?"

"Guess."

Their conversation sounded like casual chatter between old friends who hadn’t met in a long time, but in reality, they weren’t close. Su Qing was like a mystery to them, her origins unknown and her purpose unclear, yet she had helped them several times.

Su Qing took the drink that the bartender passed her, and was about to drink, but Eden suddenly held her hand, Su Qing raised an eyebrow, "What?"

"You’re injured; it’s best not to drink," Eden said.

"Who says I’m injured?"

Eden leaned closer to Su Qing and whispered, "You smell of blood." He had just noticed it.

Su Qing was surprised, not expecting Eden’s nose to be so sensitive, "Are you a dog?" she joked.

Suddenly, two more men entered the bar, looking around as if searching for someone. Su Qing’s eyes flickered and she leaned into Eden’s embrace, wrapping her hands around his neck, "Don’t move."

Eden, suddenly embraced by Su Qing and about to push her away, heard her command and then saw two men behaving suspiciously. He was about to push her away but instead held her by the waist, his head slightly lowered. They looked like a couple too close for comfort, this audacious behavior not out of place in a bar.

The two men scanned over them without stopping and headed towards the back door of the bar. As they passed by, Eden noticed the bulge at their waists – they were obviously carrying weapons.

Once they were gone, Su Qing sat up from Eden’s embrace, "Thanks." She didn’t deny those two men had been looking for her.

"Who were those two?"

"FBI," Su Qing answered nonchalantly.

"Why would the FBI be after you?" Eden frowned, knowing being on the FBI’s radar could be tricky.

Su Qing shrugged, "Guess."

Seeing she wasn’t forthcoming, Eden didn’t ask further and stood up, "Let’s go."

Su Qing didn’t ask where Eden was taking her; she simply followed. Less than three minutes after they left, the two men returned to the bar only to find their target gone.

Eden led Su Qing straight home, and got out his first aid kit, "Take off your clothes."

Su Qing chuckled, "We haven’t seen each other for two years; don’t be so direct right away." Though she joked, she still took off her top. There was a bandaged wound on her back, but the bandage was fully soaked in blood. If she hadn’t worn a black dress today, it would have been obvious in the bar.

Eden unwrapped the bandage only to discover a bullet still lodged in the wound, "You still dared to run to a bar with such a wound, you’re quite daring." Her endurance was beyond ordinary for she could still chat and drink in the bar as if nothing was wrong.

"My courage has always been big," Su Qing chuckled.

The medical alcohol touched the wound bringing sharp pain, and Su Qing hummed softly, "I’ll inject you with anesthesia now, and help you remove the bullet."

"No need, just take it out." Su Qing refused the anesthesia, needing to stay alert as the anesthesia could slow her brain.

"Are you sure?" Eden asked.

Su Qing nodded, "Go ahead." She grabbed the clothes she had just removed and stuffed them in her mouth.

Seeing this, Eden picked up the scalpel and tweezers for sterilization.

As the scalpel cut open the wound, Eden used the tweezers to separate the flesh and search for the bullet lodged inside. Su Qing muffled a groan, her face instantly losing color.

"Can you still handle it?" Eden asked.

Su Qing nodded, signaling Eden to continue.

Quickly, Eden removed a bullet, disinfected, and bandaged the wound with crisp and decisive movements. Then, he casually draped his own shirt over Su Qing, which he had picked up while getting the medical kit.

Without any hesitation, Su Qing put on the shirt. Eden was a head taller than Su Qing, and the shirt just covered her thighs, exposing her long, fair legs.

There were no other wounds on Su Qing’s body. She leaned on the sofa, closed her eyes, and rested. There were some dark circles under her eyes, probably from not having rested well for several days.

"I’ll clean up a room for you; you should rest first," Eden said.

Su Qing opened her eyes, "This time, I owe you a favor. Feel free to ask me for anything in the future." She was a person who believed in repaying favors, and she remembered Eden helping her.

"It’s unnecessary; since you are An’s friend, I should help when we meet," Eden responded lightly.

Mentioning Shen Qinglan, Su Qing’s eyes flickered slightly, "Is she alright?"

"Haven’t you visited her?" Eden countered.

Su Qing shook her head. With her kind of identity and all the troubles she was already in, getting close to Shen Qinglan would only bring her more problems.

"She’s doing well, living a happy life."

Hearing this, a trace of warmth flashed through Su Qing’s eyes, which was good.

Eden didn’t ask why Su Qing was targeted by the FBI or how she got injured. After cleaning up a room for her, he went back to sleep.

The next day, when Eden got up, Su Qing had already left. There was a piece of paper on the table with a string of numbers, presumably Su Qing’s contact number.

He looked at the numbers on the paper a few times, then tore the paper into pieces and threw it into the toilet. He did not tell Shen Qinglan about encountering Su Qing, probably that was what Su Qing intended.

After leaving Eden’s house, Su Qing dialed a number. Soon, a man appeared in front of her, "Did you get the goods?"

Su Qing nodded, handing over a USB drive to the man, "Everything you want is in here."

The man didn’t take the USB drive but looked at Su Qing, "You weren’t hurt, were you?"

Su Qing was startled and then nodded, "I am fine, thank you for your concern, Bruce."

Bruce reached out to take the USB drive. Su Qing withdrew her hand, "Bruce. Go back and tell him, this is the last time. If there’s a next time, it will be the end for both of us."

Bruce paused, "Alright, I will relay your message exactly as you said."

Su Qing tossed the USB drive to him, and Bruce caught it. As Su Qing turned to leave, Bruce called out, "Su Qing."

Su Qing paused, "Su Qing, he won’t let you go easily."

Su Qing’s eyes darkened, "I know." That man had gone through great lengths to rescue her and trained her to be the finest agent; how could he possibly let her go because of that agreement, seeing the past two years was proof enough.

Su Qing had an agreement with that man, to work for him for fifteen years, after which he would set her free. The fifteen years had ended two years ago, but the man reneged, unwilling to release her. Su Qing defected from the organization but was pursued by the man; if she weren’t lucky, she would have died many times over.

A month ago, the man offered a condition; if Su Qing could get him the intelligence he needed this time, he would set her free afterward. Su Qing knew it might be just an empty promise, yet she still agreed. It took her an entire month to obtain the intelligence, but she was discovered at the last moment. She managed to secure the intelligence, but that got her in trouble with FBI agents, being chased from M country to Y country.

"Su Qing, just come back. If you are willing to return, he will definitely stop making things difficult for you," Bruce shouted at Su Qing’s retreating figure. He and Su Qing had been partners for many years, and he truly did not want to see Su Qing die.

Su Qing waved her hand, "You go back and tell him, I will not return unless I am dead."

Bruce tried to persuade her, "Su Qing, if you don’t go back, you really will die."

No one had ever escaped from that organization; Su Qing was the first. It wasn’t that no one had thought of escaping but it was simply impossible. Anyone who showed any intent to defect was immediately killed in the most brutal and painful way. Su Qing’s survival until now was only because the man had shown mercy.

"Bruce, I am not going back."

Bruce, puzzled, said, "Su Qing, why are you so stubborn? You have nothing to hold onto in this world, nowhere to go; at least within the organization, we are here." Why would she rather die than leave the organization?

Su Qing looked down at the ground, "Bruce, I don’t want to live on the edge of a knife for the rest of my life, nor do I want to live behind a mask forever. Freedom is something I have longed for since I was young, but I have never truly been free."

Bruce could understand Su Qing’s feelings, but when compared to life, was freedom really that important? Although none of them feared death, prepared to die at any moment, because they often brushed shoulders with the Grim Reaper, they cherished life more than anyone else.
