The Tycoon's Mysterious Darling Wife-Chapter 537 - 540. Freedom, Mr. Fu’s Daddy Life
Bruce and Su Qing were escaping and fighting at the same time, but soon after, it was just the two of them, and they both quickly got injured. Seeing the relentless pursuers behind them, Su Qing felt a chill in her heart, realizing the Ace Army Leader’s capabilities were higher than she had anticipated.
"Bruce, forget about me, just go," Su Qing pushed Bruce, her injuries were more severe than his, and she was holding him back. Without her, Bruce could definitely escape.
"No way, if we go, we go together," Bruce replied without even turning around, standing in front of Su Qing.
"Are you crazy, Bruce? If you escape now, you’ll be free once Lawrence is dead, they’ll be too busy fighting over the position of leader to care about you."
Bruce stood in front of her without even a moment’s hesitation. "We leave together." He wouldn’t abandon a friend to save his own life.
Su Qing was moved, but she said, "If we don’t leave now, we’ll both die here."
"Then let’s die together, at least we won’t be lonely on Huangquan Road."
Hearing this, Su Qing gave a bitter smile. How could someone be so stubborn?
"Alright, we’ll depend on our luck this time," Su Qing said, pulling Bruce towards the northeast of the base, where there was a cliff reaching a height of a hundred meters. Falling down would certainly mean death with no burial, but there was a forest nearby that could help conceal their presence and possibly buy them some time.
Su Qing did not know if Eden had received her distress signal at this point, she could only pray in her heart that Eden would arrive quickly and find her exact location.
Bruce and Su Qing continued their chase toward the forest. The Ace Army Leader, seeing their direction, understood Su Qing’s plan and his expression chilled. "Quick, finish them off before they reach the forest."
Though he said this, Su Qing and Bruce, being the elite of the base, moved even faster than the Ace Army. They quickly vanished from sight.
"Damn it!" cursed the Ace Army Leader silently. These two cunning monkeys.
Su Qing and Bruce leaned against a huge tree, breathing heavily. "That was too close; we almost didn’t make it," said Su Qing.
Bruce remained silent. His arm had been grazed by a stray bullet and was bleeding. He carelessly tore a strip from his clothing to bandage it, then looked towards Su Qing, "Is your hand okay?"
Su Qing glanced at her drooping arm and gave a bitter smile, "It’s probably broken."
Lawrence had used all his strength previously, and her arm wouldn’t heal anytime soon; whether it could even recover fully was uncertain.
"Never mind my hand for now, let’s hurry to the base’s entrance to meet up with Eden and the others."
"Alright, but they don’t have many people. We might miss each other." With just a sixteen-person team, Bruce wasn’t very optimistic about meeting up with Eden and successfully escaping the base. However, he didn’t regret acting alongside Su Qing tonight.
What Bruce didn’t know was that the sixteen people were just a small part of what Eden had brought; the main force was still behind. With more people, perfect concealment was difficult. If Lawrence discovered them early, rescuing Su Qing would be nearly impossible. Half of the people Eden brought were Allen’s men, just as Peter had predicted; Allen couldn’t completely stay out of it.
"Forget it, we escape as far as we can. If we make it out, it’s our luck; if not, it’s our fate," Su Qing said coldly.
Bruce nodded in agreement with Su Qing’s sentiment, and they stood up.
Bruce looked at Su Qing’s fragile left hand, "Should I try fixing the bone first?"
Su Qing shook her head, "Let’s just leave." Even if the bone was set right, her hand wouldn’t heal anytime soon.
It was fortunate that Su Qing and Bruce were both dressed in dark-colored clothes today, which greatly helped them conceal their presence.
The woods were full of shifting flashlight beams, pursuers in the hunt for them.
"These bastards have really called in a crowd. Are they planning to have the entire base hunt us down?" Su Qing cursed under her breath, puzzled, as they were supposed to be vying for the base leader’s position, not chasing just the two of them.
Su Qing and Bruce crouched low, dodging the sweep of a flashlight. "Quick, now," she pushed Bruce.
Bullets grazed past them now and then.
Su Qing’s face darkened, this pursuit was a fight to the death, "These damn bastards, are they trying to completely annihilate us?"
Such aimless firing was not just a waste of bullets, did they not fear hitting their own men? Su Qing couldn’t comprehend the Ace Army Leader’s actions. It was like killing a thousand enemies at the cost of eight hundred of one’s own. However, now wasn’t the time to worry about that; survival was paramount.
In another location, Eden was still waiting for Su Qing’s message. He didn’t know what she intended with the hallucinogens she had taken from him, but he knew that Su Qing must have already devised her own plan and would act soon, so he kept a close eye on the signal receiver he carried.
Watching the red dot on the signal receiver, Eden suddenly stood up, "Quick, follow me."
Upon hearing this, everyone stood up. They belonged to different organizations, but before departing, their leaders had all instructed them to follow Eden’s command during this mission.
"You go inform the rest, everyone else, come with me." Eden instructed one of them, who nodded, took out his phone, and started contacting the rest of the troop.
The signal receiver could only show Su Qing’s location but couldn’t communicate with her.
Fortunately, Eden had already obtained the base’s layout from Bruce. Comparing it to the map, he quickly located Su Qing, "The woods in the northeast section of the base," he said.
To rescue Su Qing, Eden needed to break through the base’s main gate defense. Fortunately, most of the base personnel were now chasing Su Qing and Bruce. The usually tightly guarded base now had a surprisingly weak entrance, and Eden entered with little effort.
The base was large, and it would take some time to reach Su Qinqing. Moreover, this was their first collaboration, and they had no understanding with each other. Eden was anxious, but there was nothing he could do alone to safely extract Su Qing. So, he could only pray inwardly that Su Qing could hold on until he arrived.
Meanwhile, Su Qing and Bruce were already utterly exhausted, Bruce had even been shot while trying to save her.
"Bruce, are you okay?" Su Qing asked. She could only move one hand, which made it difficult to even bandage Bruce’s wounds, a look of urgency in her eyes.
Bruce shook his head, "Don’t worry about me, I can manage. Let’s not concern ourselves with my injuries right now. Let’s hurry."
Su Qing nodded, supported Bruce with her other hand, and was about to move when a beam of flashlight suddenly appeared in front of them. Su Qing instinctively closed her eyes, and upon opening them, she saw the dark muzzle of a gun pointed at them.
The Ace Army Leader slowly walked out, eyeing them coldly, "You’ve got nowhere to go."
Su Qing stared at him steadily, "Lawrence is dead, and you can become the new leader of the base, so why must you eradicate us?"
The man laughed, "You killed the leader; you betrayed the base. Traitors must be eliminated. I’m simply avenging the leader."
Su Qinqing scoffed mockingly, "I didn’t expect the Ace Army Leader to be such a man of loyalty and righteousness. But it seems more to me like you’re killing to silence us, to prevent future troubles."
The flashlight beam brightly illuminated the area, allowing Su Qing to clearly see the expression on his face, his eyes contained a smile, seemingly mocking and self-satisfied.
"If that’s how you want to interpret it, fine. Killing you raises my prestige and secures my position as the rightful leader," the Ace Army Leader spoke confidently, his closeness to his dependable men making him unrestrained in speech.
Su Qing had been in the base for many years, and she was not familiar with this leader of the Ace Army; they had never even interacted.
The Ace Army was ultimately Lawrence’s personal guard team, which was probably to prevent them from colluding, so Lawrence never allowed his subordinates to have too close a relationship with his Ace Army.
"We just want to leave the base," one of them said. "If you let us go, we will never step into the base again, regardless of whether you are the leader of the base or not, it will have nothing to do with us. But if you insist on not letting us leave, then we might as well perish together. Although we are currently being hunted and in a pitiful state, Bruce and I are among the top in the base. Do you really think you can exterminate us without lifting a finger?" Su Qing said calmly as she stared at the Ace Army Leader.
The Ace Army Leader frowned and listened as Su Qing continued, "Or do you really think I made no preparations before taking action? Let me be clear, I have implanted a micro bomb inside my body. If I can’t escape, I will choose to commit suicide, and then everyone here will have to be buried with me. Oh, by the way, the trigger for this micro bomb is my heart; once my heart stops beating, it will explode. The power should be enough to destroy the entire base. You might want to think about whether to let me go or keep me."
The Ace Army Leader sneered, "Do you think by saying this I would believe you?"
"You don’t have to believe it. It’s just a gamble to see who wins and who loses. We’re surrounded by you anyway; I can’t run away. But it won’t be a loss for me if you are buried with me," Su Qing said with a composed demeanor.
The Ace Army Leader dared not gamble. If Lawrence died, he had a great chance to take over as the base leader. Such power was too enticing for him, and to perish with these two just for a dead Lawrence seemed like a loss not worth the consequences. But to just let them leave was also hard to accept.
What’s more, he didn’t believe that Su Qing had the courage to implant such a powerful micro bomb in her own body.
Su Qing saw his thoughts and chuckled lightly, "Don’t doubt my words. You’ve been with Lawrence for so long, you should know the relationship between me and Lawrence. I despised him and wished he would die. If I couldn’t get away from him, then dying was the only path left, so why wouldn’t I dare to make a gamble? Before the operation tonight, I was ready to die along with Lawrence, but I won the bet and killed him, so now I don’t want to die anymore. I suppose you might not want to die for the power within your grasp even more than I do."
"I could also capture you alive and then remove the micro bomb," the Ace Army Leader said gravely.
"Then we’ll have to see if you capture me first, or if I take care of myself first," Su Qing said calmly, showing no fear at all, as if death was as simple as eating a meal.
Doubt flickered in the Ace Army Leader’s eyes. While it might be hard for Su Qing to kill him, killing herself was all too easy for her, and he wasn’t entirely confident that he could capture her alive.
"Fine, I agree to let you leave," the Ace Army Leader chose to compromise. At worst, he would follow in Lawrence’s footsteps and send people to hunt them down later.
Did Su Qing not know his intentions? Not necessarily. But the most important thing right now was to get out of the base first, and deal with the rest once she had escaped.
Su Qing supported Bruce as they walked out of their encirclement, but she remained in a state of readiness, not daring to let her guard down.
Just as she stepped out of the circle, sudden gunshots rang out from behind. Bullets whizzed by; before she could react, Bruce had rolled them both to the ground, and all she could hear was his muffled groan and the warm liquid on her face, carrying the warmth of Bruce’s body and the taste of iron.
Instinctively, she raised her gun and shot towards the direction of the Ace Army Leader. A bullet hit right in the scapula of the Ace Army Leader, and his gun fell to the ground.
At that moment, Su Qing’s shooting hand was also hit by a bullet, and she realized that the person who had fired the shot was not the Ace Army Leader but his deputy.
The deputy raised his hand and fired a shot, killing the Ace Army Leader immediately, who didn’t even have time to curse before dying. Continuous gunfire followed, and before the others could react, the Ace Army members who followed were all downed, leaving only the deputy with Su Qing and Bruce in the woods.
Su Qing sneered, as expected, the people of this base were cold-blooded monsters.
The deputy held the gun, glanced at his former leader, withdrew his gaze, and then looked at Su Qing, "Now it’s your turn."
Bruce leaned on Su Qing; he had just blocked a fatal shot for her and was seriously injured. "Su Qing, you have to find a way to survive."
A trace of sadness flashed in Su Qing’s eyes, the shot had hit Bruce’s heart directly. "Bruce, we agreed to leave together."
Bruce smiled, "I can’t go, but you still can. Su Qing, make sure you survive and see the world for me."
"Bruce, don’t talk anymore. Hold on a little longer. Eden will be here soon; his medical skills are great. He will definitely find a way to save you. Just hold on a little longer."
"Su Qing, I can’t hold on anymore."
"Heh, don’t feel bad; you’ll both be meeting God soon," the second-in-command said, looking down at Su Qing and Bruce.
Su Qing looked up, her eyes seemingly poisoned as she retorted, "Aren’t you afraid I might choose to take you with me?"
The second-in-command laughed lightly, "Such lies are only good for fooling idiots."
Su Qing’s heart sank; she hadn’t expected him to disbelieve her completely.
She lifted her hand, which was covered in blood; however, it was still clear she was wearing a ring, "This is a remote control for a mini bomb. See the red light on the ring? If I press this button, the bomb will explode immediately."
She had just discovered a faint red light on the ring, subtle and unobtrusive.
The second-in-command’s gaze fell on the ring on Su Qing’s hand. Under the flashlight, the red light was almost negligible, yet it successfully altered his expression, filling his eyes with anger. He shot Su Qing in the leg, "You bitch!"
Su Qing’s face paled further; sweat covered her forehead. She stared steadfastly at the second-in-command and chuckled lightly, "If you dare, kill me, and we’ll meet God together."
If her hand hadn’t been broken by Lawrence, would they still be in this miserable, suppressed situation? Even if she couldn’t wipe them out entirely, she would have made them pay a heavy price.
Su Qing kept an eye on Bruce in her peripheral vision, noticing his breath growing weaker and weaker. Anxiously, she said, "Bruce, hang in there."
Bruce managed a weak smile; he could hold on no longer, "Liv... survive."
"Bang." Following Bruce’s last words, another gunshot hit Su Qing’s other leg. The second-in-command watched with interest, "I didn’t expect to find such fools in the base."
"It doesn’t matter whether there’s a real bomb in you or a fake one, I’ll just turn you into a cripple, then throw you far out into the sea," the second-in-command said with a raised corner of his mouth, clearly not taking Su Qing’s threat seriously, although he had almost believed it for a moment.
Right then, Su Qing bitterly regretted not actually having a mini bomb implanted in her; she would have definitely taken the man before her to the grave.
"Bang, bang, bang." Gunshots rang out successively in the woods, and the towering figure of the second-in-command fell in front of Su Qing. She blinked in slight shock, looking behind him to see Eden appear in her line of sight, her eyes watering.
She blinked, "Eden, save him."
Eden quickly stepped forward to check Bruce, then looked at Su Qing with a face full of apologies, "Su Qing, he’s already dead."
Hearing this, Su Qing’s vision darkened, and she fainted.
When Su Qing woke up again, it was in a clean, tidy room. She tried to sit up, only to be reminded of her injuries; even a slight movement pulled at her wounds.
She glanced around, this environment was unfamiliar, and as she blinked, the scenes before she passed out reemerged in her mind. Remembering Bruce, a touch of sadness crossed her eyes.
The door opened, and Eden walked in, "You’re finally awake."
"How long was I unconscious?" Su Qing asked, realizing how hoarse her voice sounded.
"Three days."
Su Qing’s gaze fell on Eden’s leg, "What happened to your leg?"
"Caught a bullet, but it’s nothing serious. I’ve taken care of your wounds. Except for your left hand, everything else should be fine, but your left hand was severely injured and needs proper rest."
Su Qing made a sound in acknowledgment, looking earnestly at Eden, "Bruce, he..."
"I have brought back his body for you to take care of."
The light in Su Qing’s eyes instantly extinguished, "Can you take me to see him?"
Eden nodded and brought over a wheelchair, lifting Su Qing into it and pushing her to another room. The room was empty except for a single coffin. Su Qing gazed at the person lying inside, her expression deep and somber as she bowed her head, making it difficult for Eden to discern her emotions.
"Su Qing, the deceased have passed on," he said, attempting to comfort her.
"Eden, help me find a cemetery with a beautiful view, preferably where no one will disturb."
"Okay."
A month later, Su Qing stood in front of Bruce’s gravestone which bore no photo, only Bruce’s name, "Bruce, I am leaving. Today is to bid you farewell. I don’t know when I’ll be back next."
She stood in front of the gravestone for a long time, until a drizzle began to fall. An umbrella appeared over her head, "Su Qing, it’s raining, let’s go."
Su Qing nodded her head and left the place.
"Have you decided where to go?" Eden asked.
Su Qing smiled, "I once dreamt of traveling the world, but I never had the chance. Now that I am finally free, it’s time to fulfill my dream."
"Traveling the world sounds great. Where’s your first stop?"
Su Qing shook her head, "I don’t know, let’s head to the airport first and see where the next flight goes. I’ve been to many places but never really appreciated the local scenery. Now I can truly do as I wish."
This was the freedom she had longed for, she thought she would be happy, but the reality was not so, because this freedom came at the cost of her friend’s life.
"Eden, do you have any plans for the future?"
Eden was briefly stunned, then smiled, "Continue my medical research."
"Are you planning to spend your life with your medical research?" Su Qing raised an eyebrow.
"Is there anything wrong with that?"
"Eden, if you’re still thinking about Qinglan, let it go. She wouldn’t want to see you like this."
Eden laughed, "Did you misunderstand something?"
Su Qing looked at him, puzzled.
"I let go of Qinglan when I saw her happy. Now she is just a dear friend to me, like you. I simply love medicine."
Su Qing looked into his eyes, his gaze was serene. She smiled, "That’s good. If one day you meet a girl you love and want to be with, remember to let me know, I’ll send you my sincerest blessing."
"Sure, the same to you, Su Qing. If you ever get tired of playing outside, you’re welcome to come back anytime."
"Okay." She opened her arms, looking at Eden with a smile, "Aren’t you going to give me a goodbye hug?"
Eden embraced her, "Su Qing, take care."
Su Qing patted his back, "Don’t worry about me. Now that I’ve escaped from them, no one in this world knows who I am anymore. I’m completely free."
After leaving the base, Eden still managed to find Jin Enxi, asking her to delete Su Qing’s file from the base’s database. Now, there was no record of a person named Su Qing in that organization, and they didn’t care who the new leader of the base was.
Su Qing took a cab to the airport alone, without Eden’s company. She thought the faint affection she felt for Eden could never turn into love, and perhaps, with time, it would soon be forgotten.
"Hello, can you tell me where the next flight goes?" she asked the staff at the airport.
"To the Capital of Country Z."
Su Qing paused, then laughed, this was probably what they called ’fate.’ "Please give me a ticket for the next flight to the Capital."
"Of course, miss."
After giving birth to twins, Shen Qinglan’s breast milk was not enough to feed both children, forcing the Fu Family twins to rely on formula.
But Chenchen was a picky child, he wouldn’t eat without breast milk, just like Anan when she was little. The moment he was fed formula, he would cry so loudly as if he would not rest until he tore a hole in the sky. As long as he was fed breast milk, he would immediately quiet down, much to Fu Hengyi’s gritted teeth.
"Qinglan, from tomorrow onwards let him drink only formula," Fu Hengyi declared, ready to challenge his young son out of frustration borne by the fussy eating habit of his boy, due to which his daughter hadn’t had breast milk for three days. Born frail, most of the breast milk now went to his son who was thriving and plump, while his poor daughter had turned as thin as a sprout, which pained Fu Hengyi.
Shen Qinglan gave him a dark look, "If he starts crying, will you console him?" Thinking of her son’s crying skill gave Shen Qinglan a headache. She had never seen such a crybaby, with a lung capacity that was astonishing. Though Anan would cry when she was small, she would stop after a while, but he wouldn’t; he could keep crying continuously for an hour without a break.
Shen Qinglan now felt her scalp tingle just hearing her son’s crying.
"Just let him cry, once he’s cried enough, he won’t cry anymore." Fu Hengyi was utterly unsympathetic.
"Actually, it’s fine for Tangtang to eat formula. The formulas nowadays are very nutritious, and Tangtang likes it too," reasoned Tangtang, a very well-behaved child who, since birth, had barely cried except for a few hums when hungry or needing the bathroom and was not fussy about food at all.
"No way, formula nutrition can never compare to breast milk. Look how thin Tangtang is, she’s practically skin and bones."
Shen Qinglan was speechless—this was an exaggeration. Although Tangtang was slimmer than her brother, she was nowhere near as exaggerated as Fu Hengyi claimed.
Fu Hengyi was biased toward his daughter, which even Anan had noticed.
"If you can soothe our son and keep him from crying, I’ll agree to let him have formula," Shen Qinglan conceded.
When it was time to feed, Fu Hengyi immediately placed his daughter in Shen Qinglan’s arms and took his son downstairs. Carrying the child in one arm and preparing formula with the other, he was proficient in his movements. After checking the temperature and finding it was not too hot, he tried to offer the bottle to his son.
Chenchen didn’t even look at it and opened his mouth as if to cry. Seeing this, Fu Hengyi forcefully put the nipple in his son’s mouth, "If you don’t eat, then starve."
Chenchen couldn’t understand what he was saying and pushed the nipple out with his tongue.
Loud crying echoed throughout the Fu Residence. Even without going downstairs, Old Sir Fu knew that Fu Hengyi was trying to feed his great-grandson formula.
Anan followed Old Sir Fu, covering his ears, "Grandpa, my little brother is crying again." the worry evident on his face.
He had never seen a kid who cried as much as his little brother.
Old Sir Fu, with a loving smile, hugged Anan, "It’s okay, your daddy is here to soothe him."
Anan’s worry deepened—it was precisely because his daddy was present that he was worried. His dad was very patient with his sister, but with his little brother...
Originally, Fu Hengyi’s vacation was only a month long, but he couldn’t bear to leave his daughter and forcefully requested another month. He claimed that since his family had twins, a dragon and a phoenix, they rightfully deserved double the leave.
If it weren’t for his high military rank, his superiors would have wanted to kick him. They called Old Sir Fu to complain, earnestly persuading him to send Fu Hengyi back to the army quickly.
But Old Sir Fu couldn’t decide for him and could only listen with a chuckle, then stroking his beard, he’d say, "Ah, old age makes one useless, I didn’t quite catch that. Why don’t you call him yourself?"
The superiors were annoyed. Old sir, stop pretending to be confused. You are obviously healthy but pretend to be deaf and dumb in front of me, why indulge your grandson like this.
Old Sir Fu was playing tai chi, cheerfully hanging up the call, then sternly turned to his grandson, "Hurry up and get back to the army."
Hearing this, Fu Hengyi was calm, "Before I went on leave, I had already set up all the training plans. They just need to follow my plans, and there won’t be any mistakes. If there are still errors, then they might as well leave now."
Old Sir Fu frowned, about to scold his grandson, but then heard Tangtang’s crying, Fu Hengyi’s expression changed, and he vanished from Old Sir Fu’s sight in an instant. After a few times like this, Old Sir Fu simply flung his sleeves and stopped bothering.
Shen Qinglan had tried to advise him, but he didn’t take it seriously, still repeating the same arguments. In a nutshell, nothing was more important than his daughter.
Downstairs, Chenchen was wailing loudly. Fu Hengyi’s head buzzed with the noise. Frowning, he looked at the child in his arms, completely at a loss.
Upstairs, Tangtang was nursing in her mother’s arms, her big eyes fluttering open and close. Shen Qinglan felt as if she could see laughter in those eyes. She chuckled softly, pinching her daughter’s cheek, "Guess how many minutes your dad will take to come up here? Mom bets it won’t be over twenty minutes."
Sure enough, within 20 minutes, Fu Hengyi came upstairs bearing the child, expressionless, he handed the child to Shen Qinglan. Shen Qinglan knew this would be the outcome, calmly taking over to continue nursing.
Tangtang had eaten her fill, lying next to her mother, kicking and waving her arms, joyously unknown to what. Upon seeing his daughter, Fu Hengyi’s demeanor instantly brightened, tenderly lifting his daughter, "Daddy’s going to take you for a little stroll to digest your food."
Shen Qinglan had figured Fu Hengyi couldn’t handle their little son, so when she was nursing Tangtang earlier, she only fed half breast milk, the rest was formula, ensuring the little son had plenty of sustenance.
Fed with breast milk, Chenchen immediately transformed into a warm jacket, not crying or fussing, very well-behaved.
Fu Hengyi, holding his daughter, went out for a walk, and Anan, seeing his little brother quiet, immediately went downstairs, and just then ran into Fu Hengyi who was about to go out.
"Daddy, I want to go too."
Fu Hengyi looked down at him, "Have you finished your homework?"
Anan nodded, "I’ve finished it." He looked up at Fu Hengyi holding his sister, his face full of longing, "Daddy, can I hold my little sister?"
Fu Hengyi shook his head, "No, you’re too young, you can’t manage her. What if you drop her?"
"Daddy, I won’t drop my little sister," Anan promised, holding up three fingers.
Fu Hengyi was hesitant to hand over his daughter to his son, but seeing the longing in his son’s eyes, he couldn’t bear to refuse, so he said, "I’ll hold her; you can look." He crouched down to allow Anan a clearer view of his little sister.
Tangtang had grown lovely, her skin white and tender, very adorable. Anan’s face beamed with joy, and he bent down, wanting to kiss her.
Fu Hengyi stopped him, "Anan, men and women shouldn’t be so intimate—it’s not appropriate to kiss your sister."
Anan was stunned, "Then why did you just kiss her?" He had seen Daddy kiss his sister just a moment ago.
"I’m Daddy, of course, I can kiss her."
"Well, I’m her brother, I can too. If you don’t let me kiss my sister, I’ll tell Mom you’re bullying me."
Fu Hengyi’s expression darkened slightly; this cheeky boy, not only had he learned to talk back. He had also learned to tattle.
Fu Hengyi frowned and was about to scold his son when he caught sight, from the corner of his eye, of Old Sir Fu coming down the stairs, and he immediately shut his mouth.
Old Sir Fu’s face lit up with joy when he saw his great-granddaughter. Tangtang looked just like Shen Qinglan, as if cut from the same mold, very beautiful. Not just Fu Hengyi, even Chu Yunrong adored seeing this child and would call her precious.
When Anan saw Old Sir Fu, he immediately took his hand and said, "Grandpa, Daddy won’t let me kiss my sister, something about men and women not being so close?"
Hearing this, Old Sir Fu glared at Fu Hengyi, patted his grandson’s head, and chuckled, "Don’t listen to your dad’s nonsense. She’s your sister; you can kiss her, but you won’t be able to when you’re older, understand?"
Anan nodded and turned to look at Fu Hengyi, looking quite smug, hmm, Grandpa said he could kiss her.
Fu Hengyi wore a look of composure, choosing not to argue with the little rascal.
"I’m taking Tangtang for a walk," he said, and with the child in his arms, he walked off. Seeing this, Anan quickly followed with his little short legs, "Daddy, wait for me, I want to go for a walk with my sister too."
By the time Shen Qinglan had finished feeding Chenchen, the father and son were already nowhere to be seen in the house. Only Old Sir Fu was sitting on the sofa, flipping through the newspaper.
"Grandpa, where’s Anan?" Shen Qinglan asked not seeing her elder son.
Even though she had a second child now, her care for Anan hadn’t diminished at all. She made time every day to talk and play games with Anan.
"He went for a walk with his dad and sister. Is Chenchen asleep?"
Shen Qinglan nodded.
Since Anan wasn’t around, Shen Qinglan ended up playing chess with Old Sir Fu in the living room.
Her phone rang just as she was placing the final piece on the board; "Grandpa, you lost."
Old Sir Fu stared at the neatly arranged pieces on the board, eyes wide, "Ah, how did I lose? This round doesn’t count. Let’s play again."
Shen Qinglan smiled slightly, about to agree, when her phone rang. She glanced at the number, "Grandpa, I need to take this call first," she said and walked out.
"Qinglan, I’m currently in Beijing, let’s meet up," a familiar voice came through the phone.
Shen Qinglan smiled slightly, "Sure." It had been a long time since she had heard from Su Qing.
