The Tycoon's Mysterious Darling Wife-Chapter 545: Fan second 2. This is my boyfriend
Yu Xiaoxuan watched Fu Chenxuan’s car disappear into the distance before turning to head home. But the moment she turned around, she came face-to-face with Han Yi’s melancholic expression. Startled, she quickly stepped back several paces and, bewildered, stared at Han Yi. "Why are you standing behind me like a ghost?"
At her words, Han Yi looked even more mournful, staring at Yu Xiaoxuan as if she were a heartbreaker. "Is Fu Chenxuan good-looking?"
"Yes, he is. Ah, why isn’t he my son?" Yu Xiaoxuan bemoaned as she remembered Fu Chenxuan’s perfect face.
Han Yi’s expression grew even more sorrowful. "Yu Xiaoxuan, you’re such a fangirl." With that, he stormed off furiously.
Yu Xiaoxuan watched his retreating figure with puzzlement, as if observing an unreasonable child. Shaking her head, she walked into the house to find that Han Yi had already gone upstairs. Meanwhile, Guoguo had changed her clothes and was just coming down. Seeing her, Yu Xiaoxuan asked, "What’s with your dad today?"
Guoguo, holding an apple and taking a bite, replied indifferently, "Oh, just his teenage angst acting up."
Yu Xiaoxuan gave her a disapproving look. "Is that any way to talk about your own father?"
Guoguo chuckled mischievously, sat down next to Yu Xiaoxuan, and said, "Mom, I have something to tell you."
"What’s up?" Yu Xiaoxuan asked, curious.
"Brother Chenxuan is planning to start his own business this time he’s back, and I want to help him. What do you think?"
"That’s fine," Yu Xiaoxuan agreed without hesitation.
"And about my dad..."
"I’ll talk to him." Yu Xiaoxuan was very straightforward.
"Hehehe, thanks, Mom. You’re the best; I love you to death!" Guoguo showered her with flattery.
"However, when you go to Brother Chenxuan’s company, you can’t act the way you do at our own company. You have to take the work seriously, you know? If I find out you’re there to cause trouble, then you’re coming straight back home," Yu Xiaoxuan warned.
Guoguo wasn’t offended by this. Instead, she just pouted, "No wonder Dad is jealous of Brother Chenxuan. Mom, sometimes I feel like Brother Chenxuan is your real son. Your heart is so biased!"
Yu Xiaoxuan shot her an annoyed look. "If he were indeed my own son, I’d be eternally grateful. Chenxuan is so worry-free, unlike you two, who constantly make me anxious."
"Hey Mom, if you’re talking about Han Simiao, just say Han Simiao. Don’t lump me in with him."
"Has your brother called you lately?" Yu Xiaoxuan asked, remembering her son who was studying abroad. She had just returned from the filming site yesterday and was planning to rest for a while.
Guoguo shook her head. "No, the kid’s been burying himself in his studies recently, probably filled his head with those complicated theories of his, leaving no room to remember me."
"That boy..." Yu Xiaoxuan sighed helplessly and then stood up, saying, "Alright, it’s getting late. Go to bed early. Don’t stay up until two or three in the morning for no reason. Girls need to take care of their skin."
Guoguo waved her off, "I know, I know. Mom, you’re getting more nagging by the day."
"Who are you calling nagging? Then you can talk to your dad yourself." Yu Xiaoxuan glowered.
Instantly, Guoguo flashed a sycophantic smile. "Mom, I was talking about myself. You’re the best mom in the world, the mom I love the most."
Yu Xiaoxuan looked at the smooth-talking Guoguo, noting the resemblance between her and Fu Chenxuan, and shook her head helplessly. "I’m going to bed; don’t stay up late."
"Mhm, I promise to go to bed early tonight." She needed to wake up early because she was planning to accompany Brother Chenxuan to look at office locations the next day.
And the next morning, when Guoguo got up, Yu Xiaoxuan was the only one at home, Han Yi had already left for work. Seeing her daughter come down, Yu Xiaoxuan told her to go eat breakfast.
"By the way, I’ve already talked to your dad about the matter, and he has agreed," said Yu Xiaoxuan.
Guoguo was startled, then said with delight, "Mom, you actually managed to convince my dad so quickly, you’re so amazing. What did you say to him that he agreed so easily?" Based on her father’s attitude yesterday, she thought it would take him at least a few days to consent.
A flicker of discomfort flashed through Yu Xiaoxuan’s eyes, yet her face did not betray a thing. "The process isn’t important. As long as your dad has agreed, that’s what matters. Hurry up and eat."
While Guoguo was bowing her head to eat, Yu Xiaoxuan surreptitiously rubbed her sore back. Nothing a good sleep couldn’t fix, and if not, then twice.
"Guoguo, godmom, I’m here."
Just after the mother and daughter had finished eating, Fu Chenxuan’s voice came from outside the door. Guoguo stood up from the sofa, "Mom, I’ll be going then."
"Okay."
"Brother Chenxuan, let’s go," said Guoguo, linking her arm with Fu Chenxuan’s, who had just entered.
And just like that, Fu Chenxuan was whisked away by Guoguo without even having time to greet Yu Xiaoxuan.
"Brother Chenxuan, where are we heading first?" asked Guoguo, curious.
"Let’s start with Binhe Road. It’s close to the Technology Park, where there are many energetic young professionals," Fu Chenxuan replied. He ran a tech company and being in the Technology Park would also allow him to connect with more talent in that field.
"Brother Chenxuan, speaking of which, I keep forgetting to ask you — I didn’t study software development, and I don’t know anything about gaming. What can I possibly do at your company?"
Having studied business management in university, she had spent her time playing around instead of studying, learning next to nothing. Though she held the title of vice president, she had just been idling away at the company, without seriously doing any work. She could be said to have no experience at all.
Fu Chenxuan glanced at her, "Start as my secretary, any objections?"
Guoguo smiled, "Of course not."
"But let me make it clear, I have no issue however you want to mess around in private, but if you’re not serious at work and I end up scolding you, you’re not allowed to cry or tattle to your parents."
"Am I that kind of person? I don’t cry or snitch, that’s what kids do. I’m twenty-four this year," Guoguo said, dissatisfied.
"That’s good. If you don’t behave, I’ll just tell your godmom, and let her deal with you." Han Yi was completely wrapped around his daughter’s finger, unable to bear laying a finger on her or scolding her, so Yu Xiaoxuan would have to play the strict mother. Guoguo, mischievous as a child, had often been disciplined by Yu Xiaoxuan.
Guoguo widened her eyes, "Brother Chenxuan, that’s not fair, you just said I’m not allowed to tattle." And now he was threatening to complain to her mom if she misbehaved. What was this? It’s do as I say, not as I do.
Fu Chenxuan was the picture of calm, "I’m just letting you know you have to work seriously, otherwise I won’t be sparing with you."
Fu Chenxuan and Guoguo had always been close. Although they had been apart for a few years because of his studies overseas, their relationship hadn’t become estranged. They chatted along the way and soon arrived at their destination.
After making a phone call to the real estate agent, Fu Chenxuan spent most of the day house-hunting with Guoguo.
By three in the afternoon, Fu Chenxuan and Guoguo were sitting in a café, with Guoguo gently rubbing her calves, "Brother Chenxuan, out of those three places we looked at today, did any of them satisfy you?"
Fu Chenxuan shook his head, "No, let’s keep looking tomorrow. Or maybe you should rest at home tomorrow?" Seeing her small action, Fu Chenxuan suggested.
Guoguo shook her head, "I don’t want that. It’s just been a long time since I walked so much. I’ll just wear flat shoes tomorrow. Staying home is too boring. It’s more interesting to be with you."
Fu Chenxuan let her have her way, "Later I’ll drop you off. I have to go to my grandmother’s house for dinner tonight, so I won’t be able to have dinner with you."
Guoguo nodded her head, "Okay."
"Yanyan, what are you doing here?" A male voice suddenly rang out above their heads. Guoguo followed the sound and, upon seeing the newcomer, her pretty brows knitted tightly. "How come you’re here?"
The newcomer was a man in his mid-twenties, quite handsome with a refined appearance. Hearing her question, he said with a smile, "I came here for coffee with some friends. And who might this be?" His gaze landed on Fu Chenxuan, a flash of amazement crossing his eyes. Fu Chenxuan’s looks were exceptionally striking, causing even a man to do a double-take, and an instinctive sense of crisis surged within him.
Who was this man? Why was he with Han Nanyan? What was their relationship? A series of guesses floated to his mind, causing him to regard Fu Chenxuan with a hint of wariness in his eyes.
Seizing the opportunity, Guoguo rolled her eyes, rose to take her seat next to Fu Chenxuan and wrapped her arm around his, "This is my boyfriend, Fu Chenxuan." She showed no intention of introducing the man before them to Fu Chenxuan.
Fu Chenxuan glanced at the hand on his arm and said nothing, turning to the man, "Hello."
The man looked at Guoguo in shock, "Since when have you had a boyfriend?"
Guoguo appeared confused, "I’ve always had one. It’s just that you refused to believe me. My boyfriend was studying abroad and he’s only just returned. Oh, since we’ve bumped into each other, why don’t you sit down and join us for a coffee?" Guoguo extended the invitation with sincere warmth.
While speaking, she turned towards Fu Chenxuan, "Dear, you don’t mind, do you?"
Fu Chenxuan gave her a fond look and indulged her with a smile, "Of course, I don’t mind. Sir, would you care to join us?"
The man’s face went slightly pale, disbelief evident as he looked at Guoguo’s hand on Fu Chenxuan’s, "Yanyan, you really have a boyfriend?"
Guoguo was getting impatient but before she could speak, Fu Chenxuan touched her hand and she immediately fell silent. Fu Chenxuan turned towards the man, "Sir, what do you mean by that? Do we not seem like a couple? Or do you think she shouldn’t have a boyfriend?"
Although he was smiling as he spoke, his eyes carried a chilling glint and an almost imperceptible aura emanated from him.
Meeting this oppressive gaze, the man stiffened, "I... I apologize, I misspoke. I have something else to attend to, I must go now." With that, he quickly made his way toward the exit, even forgetting about his friends.
Once the man had left, Fu Chenxuan turned his head to Guoguo and lifted an eyebrow slightly, "Aren’t you going to explain?"
Guoguo pouted and let go of his arm, "He’s just like a sticky plaster, impossible to shake off; so annoying."
"Your classmate?"
"Not at all. I met him at a banquet I attended with my dad. He’s the son of some company’s chairman. I didn’t catch his name, and somehow he got my number. Since then, he frequently shows up."
"Your dad doesn’t know about this, does he?" If Han Yi found out, with his protective nature, there’s no way that guy could still be anywhere near Guoguo.
Guoguo shrugged, "I didn’t tell my dad. After all, the man has only been trying to engineer ’chance’ encounters with me, nothing more. Besides, I didn’t want to escalate things."
Fu Chenxuan rubbed her head. Guoguo took after Han Yi in looks. She might not have been stunning enough to cause a sensation, but she was definitely a beauty—with her crescent-moon eyes shining brightly when she smiled, she had an innocent charm with an alluring pull that proved irresistible to men. Guoguo always had plenty of admirers, and she was quite used to using Fu Chenxuan as a shield.
Guoguo covered her head, "Brother Chenxuan, don’t mess up my hair, or it’ll be a bird’s nest. How will I face people?"
Despite her protest, Fu Chenxuan not only kept his hand there but gave her hair another ruffle, "Using me as a shield, what if I can’t find a wife later on, will you take responsibility?"
"I’ll take responsibility. I have lots of single friends. I’ll introduce some to you, and they are all sensible, beautiful, and elegant."
A flicker of amusement sparkled in Fu Chenxuan’s eyes as he snorted softly. "Your circle of wild friends? Better you keep them to yourself and spare me the grief."
Guoguo glared, "What do you mean ’wild friends’?"
"Are you waiting for me to go blind and not see your Moments?"
Guoguo sheepishly replied, "Well, shopping is a girl’s favorite thing to do, and we don’t just squander money. We often do charity work too; you just didn’t know."
Fu Chenxuan was noncommittal and seemed to ask casually, "I remember you mentioning last time that you had a boyfriend. Where is he?"
"What boyfriend? Brother Chenxuan, don’t try to trick me. I’ve never had a boyfriend," Guoguo wasn’t fooled.
Fu Chenxuan looked regretful; the girl had gotten smarter since they last met. "Guoguo, you’re not young anymore. It’s time to start dating. Tell me what kind of guy you like, and I’ll introduce you to someone. I know plenty of talented young men; whatever type you like, I can find for you."
Blushing, Guoguo lowered her head, "Brother Chenxuan, if you keep talking nonsense, I’ll tell Auntie you’re bullying me."
Fu Chenxuan’s eyes flickered, "Little girl, don’t tell me you already have someone you like."
"N-no, I don’t." Guoguo reflexively denied it, but the more she denied, the surer Fu Chenxuan became that she was indeed experiencing the beginnings of love.
With genuine interest, he asked, "Who is it? Tell me, so I can give you some advice."
"Ah, really, there’s no one! That’s enough, I’m going home now. You quickly drive me home."
Fu Chenxuan chuckled, seeing she was truly unwilling to talk anymore, he didn’t press further, "Okay, let’s go, I’ll take you home."
On the way back, Fu Chenxuan’s phone rang. Seeing he was hesitant to pick up, Guoguo, who was playing with her phone, looked up, "Brother Chenxuan, your phone keeps ringing."
"Then you answer it for me."
"Oh."
Guoguo took his phone out of his trouser pocket; it was an unfamiliar number, "Brother Chenxuan, this looks like a foreign number, should I answer it?"
Fu Chenxuan glanced briefly and said indifferently, "You answer it."
Guoguo slid to answer, "Hello, who’s this?"
No one spoke on the other end. Guoguo frowned, "Hello? May I know who’s calling; please speak."
The other end remained silent, and Guoguo told Fu Chenxuan, "No one’s talking."
"Then hang up," Fu Chenxuan said lightly.
"Oh." Guoguo hung up without hesitation, put the phone back, and curiously stared at Fu Chenxuan, who couldn’t help but notice her gaze and asked humorously, "What’s up? Suddenly realized how handsome I am and fell in love with me?"
Guoguo retorted, "Even if I fell in love, it wouldn’t be with you, Brother Chenxuan. Tell me the truth, that wasn’t your girlfriend who called just now, was it?"
"I don’t have a girlfriend."
"Then it must be an admirer. Oh no, she might have misunderstood our relationship. Should I call back to explain?"
Fu Chenxuan was resigned, "Why call back? Just sit tight."
Guoguo kept staring at Fu Chenxuan’s profile, "Brother Chenxuan, what if that girl misunderstands our relationship and gives up on you? If you miss out on a good relationship because of that, wouldn’t I be blamed forever? What if, out of jealousy, she sees me as a love rival and it becomes a lose-lose situation? Wouldn’t that be so unfair for me?"
Fu Chenxuan freed a hand to ruffle her hair again, "Where do you get all these ridiculous ideas? You should read less romance novels."
Guoguo disdainfully slapped his hand away, "Brother An’an, if you mess up my hair again, I’m going to get mad at you."
Hearing the nickname An’an, Fu Chenxuan decisively ruffled her hair once more.
After escorting Guoguo home, "I’ll pick you up tomorrow morning, and you’re not allowed to oversleep." He had no expectation that Guoguo could make it to the designated place on her own. If she were to go out by herself, he wouldn’t know where to start looking for her.
"I know, I definitely won’t oversleep tomorrow." Guoguo waved at him and turned to enter the house.
Fu Chenxuan didn’t go straight home but instead headed to University B to pick up his sister, Fu Shuyi. While Fu Shuchen had gotten into a military academy, his sister had chosen to attend University B.
Shen Qinglan was a legend at University B, her photo prominently displayed in the school’s window of outstanding students. Because Fu Shuyi closely resembled their mother, everyone at University B knew she was Shen Qinglan’s daughter. They often compared her with her mother, but fortunately, she was broad-minded and didn’t mind the comparisons, nor did she feel inferior from being overshadowed by her mother’s legacy.
In short, her college life was quite pleasant.
"Shuyi, I’m at the gate. Hurry up and come out." Fu Chenxuan called Fu Shuyi.
"Got it, brother. Give me ten minutes, I’ll be right down." Fu Shuyi got out of bed; she usually lived on campus and only went home on weekends.
"Shuyi, you’re going home again today?" Her roommate saw her hurrying and couldn’t help but ask.
Fu Shuyi nodded, "Yeah, I have to go to my grandma’s house for dinner tonight, so I have to go home. My brother’s already waiting for me at the gate, so I’ll be leaving first."
With that, she put on her shoes and ran out.
Fu Chenxuan leaned against his car, wearing a white shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his forearms, holding a cell phone, and talking on a call with a faint smile on his face.
"Wow, he’s so handsome. Is this man from our school?" A passing student stared at him, heart-eyed.
"Definitely not. If such a top-notch guy was from our school, there’d be no talk of the current ’campus hottie’."
"That’s true. Ahhh, he looked over here! He’s looking in our direction!"
"Oh my god, he’s handsome from the side, even more handsome from the front. How can there be such a perfect man in this world? Ahhh, I can’t handle it. From today onwards, I’m changing who my ’husband’ is."
Just as Fu Shuyi reached the gate, she heard various comments. Sure enough, her brother had already become a spectacle for everyone, with all the discussion centered around him.
Yet he himself was still unaware, deep in conversation on the phone, focused.
Fu Shuyi glanced at the girls sneaking photos with their phones, wondering if she should go over or just leave and meet up with her brother later.
As she was considering the feasibility of this plan, her brother, who embodied both beauty and intelligence, suddenly waved at her, "Fu Shuyi, hurry up."
Her scalp tingled, and instantly, various gazes landed on her, envious, jealous, curious...
She winced and stiffly moved towards where Fu Chenxuan was. The closer she got to Fu Chenxuan, the more intense the gazes became. If those looks could ignite, she would surely have been incinerated already.
Fu Chenxuan ended his call, frowned at the people around him, especially those taking photos, opened the car door, and said to Fu Shuyi, "Quickly."
Fu Shuyi hastened her pace, darted into the car, and they quickly left the place, leaving a cloud of dust behind while the onlookers watched the car fade into the distance with regret.
Sigh, the handsome guy is gone, and he’s even taken a beauty with him, alas...
"Brother, from now on, please don’t come to pick me up anymore, or at least, don’t get out of the car," Fu Shuyi said, recalling the scene just now with a sigh.
Fu Chenxuan was annoyed. "You ungrateful girl."
"I’m not ungrateful. I’m thinking about my personal safety. Look, in just these few minutes, our school’s forum is flooded with your photos. Tsk, tsk, tsk, brother, I suddenly have so many ’sister-in-laws,’" said Fu Shuyi with a cheeky expression.
She even waved the webpage in front of Fu Chenxuan’s eyes.
Fu Chenxuan gave her a glance. "I’m driving."
"Brother, was it the same when you were studying abroad? Did you also get surrounded by crowds every time you went out?"
"Our school didn’t have that many crazy fans." Although he was watched, it was never as exaggerated as just now.
"Who told you to grow a face that attracts bees and butterflies?" Fu Shuyi had no sympathy for her brother.
"You are just a tiny bit more handsome than me," Fu Chenxuan huffed.
Fu Shuyi was not happy with that. "Humph, conceited. It’s obvious that I am prettier than you. Daddy even said so. Apart from Mom, I am the prettiest."
"At the age of twenty-one, you’re still so vain, Fu Shuyi. I think you’ve been poisoned by your own charm."
Fu Shuyi took out her makeup mirror from her bag and carefully examined her face. "Humph, I do what I like."
Seeing her like this, Fu Chenxuan couldn’t help but laugh. "You remind me of the Stepmother in Snow White."
Fu Shuyi glared harshly at her brother. "Humph, you’ve changed. You’re no longer the cute An’an you were when you were little."
"Smack." A slap landed on Fu Shuyi’s head, and she glared. "Brother, I’m already not that smart. If you turn me into an idiot with your hits, you’ll have to take care of me for life if I can’t get married."
"Okay, if you really can’t get married, I’ll take care of you for life," Fu Chenxuan readily agreed.
Fu Shuyi tidied her messy hair, making sure she looked beautiful before putting down her mirror.
When they arrived at the Shen Family, everyone was already there, except for Fu Chenxuan and Shen Qing, who had been admitted to a military academy. Shen Qing was the daughter of Shen Junyu and Wen Xiyao.
"Brother, sister, you finally made it," greeted Shen Rui, the son of Shen Junyu and Wen Xiyao, stepping up to them as soon as they got out of the car. He just turned of age last month, having celebrated his eighteenth birthday.
"Here, for you." Fu Chenxuan pulled out a small box from his pocket and tossed it to him. Shen Rui caught it. "What is this?"
"A gift for you," Fu Chenxuan said offhandedly.
Shen Rui opened the box and peeked inside. "Tsk, tsk, tsk. Brother, this gift is quite valuable," he said as Fu Chenxuan had given him a watch worth several hundred thousand.
"It’s to make up for your coming-of-age present." Fu Chenxuan couldn’t make it back for Shen Rui’s eighteenth birthday, so he decided to make up for it this time.
Shen Rui grinned. "Thanks, brother." However, he did not put the watch on. He was still in school, and wearing something so expensive wasn’t appropriate.
Fu Chenxuan walked in, as everyone was waiting for him. He headed straight for Shen Qian and Chu Yunrong. "Grandpa, Grandma."
Chu Yunrong took her grandson’s hand, examining him up and down, never getting enough of looking. "You’ve lost weight, you mustn’t have been eating well."
Fu Chenxuan smiled. "Grandma, I’ve been dieting recently. Don’t you think I look even more handsome now?"
Chu Yunrong looked at him disapprovingly, "You look good even when you’re a bit chubby, so don’t try to lose weight. Don’t end up like Tangtang, who last time was on a diet and nearly got hospitalized for malnutrition."
Fu Shuyi cringed, "Grandma, why bring that up? It’s all in the past."
Fu Chenxuan looked down at his sister, a thoughtful look in his eyes, "You’ve done such a foolish thing before?"
Fu Shuyi glared, "Who are you calling foolish?" She even tried to pinch Fu Chenxuan’s waist, but due to his regular workouts, his muscles were firm, and she couldn’t pinch anything.
Silently withdrawing her hand, Fu Shuyi kept reminding herself: This is my brother, my real brother, my real brother.
"Uncle, Aunt." Fu Chenxuan also greeted Shen Junyu and Wen Xiyao.
Wen Xiyao smiled in response, while Shen Junyu patted his shoulder, "Not bad, not bad, you’ve become more composed, you’ve made significant progress."
Fu Chenxuan smiled, "With uncle’s guidance, if I didn’t make progress, wouldn’t I be a disgrace to you?"
The main purpose of today’s gathering was to welcome Fu Chenxuan, so they started the meal as soon as he arrived.
At the table, everyone listened to Fu Chenxuan cheerfully charming all the elders, creating a joyous atmosphere.
After dinner, Shen Junyu took Fu Chenxuan aside to the study for a talk.
"Last time you mentioned wanting to set up an office here in the country, how’s that going?"
"My team is still in Y country wrapping up the last of our tasks. Once everything is ready over here, they can come anytime. My business partner has contacted their classmates back home, and some of them are willing to help me at the company. Since we’re just starting up, we don’t need too many people, so we have enough hands," said Fu Chenxuan earnestly.
Shen Junyu nodded, pleased to see that his nephew had everything well arranged, "And what about the office location? Have you chosen a place? If not, there’s a building under the Junlan Group with two vacant floors, you can check it out."
"I’m still looking. I saw a few places today and I’ll look again tomorrow. By then, I’ll have seen all my options, so you don’t need to worry about that, uncle. However, I’ll need to buy some office supplies and I don’t know anyone in that area, so I hope you can help me find some contacts."
"No problem. Tell my secretary what you need tomorrow, and I’ll have him help you find what you need. Once you’ve settled on an office, we’ll move everything there for you. And if you’re short on funds, uncle will help you out."
"I have money, uncle. After all, I’ve been working abroad for a few years, and I do have some savings." He and a few friends had started their business in their junior year of college, accumulating some wealth, though not a great deal.
Shen Junyu laughed heartily, "Good, good, good, that’s my nephew for you. Still, if you run into any problems at work, come to me anytime. A man should rely on his own hands to succeed, but sometimes you need to know how to take advantage of a situation when you can."
"Don’t worry, uncle. If I really need help, I definitely won’t be shy about asking."
The next morning, Fu Chenxuan picked up Guoguo from the Han Family and they continued office hunting.
They visited four different locations throughout the day.
"Brother Chenxuan, have you decided which office building to rent?" Guoguo held a notebook with information on the office buildings they had visited in the past two days.
"Let’s go with the second one we saw this morning, the one near the technology park. The transportation is convenient too. For new white-collar workers in Beijing, even if they live far away, commuting would still be easy."
After seeing so many options, that was the only place that truly satisfied Fu Chenxuan. The rent was a bit expensive, but he could afford it.
"I think that place is nice too. I just checked the map, and there’s a snack street nearby. After work, we can go there for some snacks."
Fu Chenxuan teased her, "I hired you to work, not to eat. You’re always thinking about food. Be careful not to turn into a fatty."
"I’m not fat at all. I exercise every day, okay? And I meant after work, so it won’t interfere with my job." Guoguo beamed, not the least worried about her figure. She was the type who never seemed to gain weight no matter what she ate.
"Brother Chenxuan, does that mean we can sign the contract with the agency now?"
Fu Chenxuan nodded, "We’ll go sign it tomorrow morning. By the way, have you told your dad about resigning to work with me?" Fu Chenxuan asked, remembering the important matter.
"It’s all settled. I can leave at any time. Oh, and Brother Chenxuan, you mentioned last time you have a team in the United Kingdom, when are they coming over?"
"Pretty soon. Once everything is ready here, they’ll come over. But before that, I need to find them a place to stay. Can’t have them sleeping in the streets, can I?"
"Brother Chenxuan, you are definitely the best boss I have ever seen." Where else would you find a boss who looks for houses for his employees?
"They are my startup buddies; it’s only right to treat them well. Are you free the day after tomorrow? If you are, come and check out the places with me."
Guoguo patted her chest, readily agreed, "No problem at all, I’ve got nothing else but time."
"But how many people are in your team, and how big of a house do we need to rent? Also, what price range should we be looking at? Property prices in Beijing have been skyrocketing these past few years."
Though Guoguo was the daughter of the Han Group, living comfortably with plenty of pocket money, it didn’t mean she was an ignorant heiress; she paid attention to what mattered.
"We’ll talk about that after we take a look."
Guoguo nodded, continued eating, and casually chatted with him about other topics.
After leaving the restaurant, Fu Chenxuan went to get the car and told Guoguo to wait at the entrance. As she was idly waiting, a woman approached her.
"Well, if it isn’t the precious daughter of the Han Group, Han Nanyan?" The woman was dressed in a strappy dress, her makeup exquisitely done, with a man in a suit and leather shoes standing beside her.
The man looked embarrassed upon seeing Hai Nanyan.
Guoguo looked unperturbed, glanced over the two individuals, and quickly looked away.
The woman, arm in arm with the man in an intimate pose, said, "Han Nanyan, I didn’t expect to run into you here. Since we’ve met, it must be fate. Why not join us for a meal?" The woman extended the invitation to Guoguo, who didn’t offer her even a glance in response.
"No thanks, I just finished eating and am on my way out. You go ahead." She had no interest in dining with them—not just because she already ate, but even if she hadn’t, she wouldn’t want to; she feared indigestion.
"Are you afraid? Han Nanyan, how long has it been since that incident? Can’t you let it go yet?" The woman’s words dropped deliberately, her gaze falling on her male companion, his face growing increasingly more embarrassed as he looked at Guoguo with flickering eyes, a tinge of guilt hiding deep within.
Guoguo chuckled lightly, "In my eyes, that’s just trash, and only you would consider it treasure."
The remark turned the woman pale with anger, the man alongside her turned ashen.
"Han Nanyan, it’s been a while, yet you’re still as arrogant as ever."
"Likewise. I haven’t seen Lady Chen’s temper improve much either, still so," she paused deliberately, then said softly, "overwhelmingly arrogant."
"Han Nanyan, let me tell you, Xiu Jie is my boyfriend now. Don’t you dare hold a torch for him. If I find out you’re still lingering around him, don’t blame me for not being nice to you."
Hearing this, Guoguo wanted to laugh, and she indeed did, "I say, Chen Anya, when will you change this self-righteous attitude of yours? Ning Xiuji and I have nothing to do with each other. Your liking him is your business; can you please not drag me into it? And the person you treasure so much, to me, is like air, oh, calling him air still gives him too much credit."
The woman known as Chen Anya’s face turned from pale green to black, and she raised her hand to strike Guoguo but was stopped mid-air by someone.
"I’ve only been away for a moment, and you’re already getting bullied?" A clear male voice came from beside her, the words carrying a faint chill.
