Chapter 101: Camela’s Last Resort

At the Cortez mansion, the atmosphere exploded after the butler delivered Dante’s order for Camela to pack her bags and return to Ashvale.

Sending her away meant ruining her mother’s plan. She stormed out of her room and pushed open the study door without knocking.

Dante frowned. He was already in no mood for anything, and Camela’s sudden intrusion only irritated him further.

"You better have a reason for this, Camela."

She marched straight up to him with fury written all over her face. A sharp slap echoed through the room, snapping his head to the side from the force.

She raised a trembling finger at him.

"I told you to finish that woman. And yet you chose to get involved with her."

Dante caught her wrist, dragged her forward, and shoved her onto the nearby sofa. She winced as pain shot through her body.

He grabbed a fistful of her hair and yanked her head up, forcing her to meet his gaze.

"So... what are you going to do now?"

"I will make sure she di..."

She nearly blurted it out but stopped herself just in time, choosing silence over betraying her mother.

"I’m not going back to Ashvale. I’m staying here," she insisted.

"Tsk... don’t be difficult, Camela, or do you want to be exposed?"

His gaze flicked down to her stomach. "My father might let me walk away. But you?"

He smiled thinly. "Don’t think you’d survive."

The threat made her freeze, torn between her hunger for revenge and her instinct to survive.

Dante snapped his fingers at the maids by the study door. "Take her to her room. Pack her things. I want her back in Ashvale by tomorrow."

A maid reached for her arm, but she brushed the hand away. "I can walk on my own."

Camela stormed into her room, slammed the door shut, and locked it. Then she immediately called her mother.

...

Across the city, Rowan sat at the head of the table, eyes fixed on the screen. The presenter swallowed hard, a bead of sweat forming at his temple as he waited for the CEO to call out the error.

Rowan straightened, ready to speak, but his phone buzzed. He excused himself, giving the others a five minute break, and strode out of the room.

"What’s the update?"

"The offender will be brought back to Mistvale tomorrow, and I’ll head to the next location myself," Martin’s voice came through the line.

"No. Come back first. We need a solid plan for this."

Rowan heard the sigh on the other end of the line. He understood. Martin was young and hot blooded. Of course he was eager to catch his the killer.

But they had to be careful. This was not something they could rush. One wrong move, and everything would collapse.

After Martin hung up, another call came in.

"Honey..."

The soft voice came through the line, tickling his ears and making him smile.

"Yes?" Rowan glanced at his watch. It was already night in Mistvale. "Are you staying at your father’s place tonight?"

"Yes, at my father house this night also and what are you doing now?"

"On a break from a meeting."

"You’re coming back tomorrow, right? I’ll wait for you at the airport," she said, a yawn slipping into her voice.

"Yes, I’ll be back tomorrow. Are you about to sleep?"

"Yes... but no one tucked me in. I miss your hug."

Rowan chuckled softly. "You miss my hug? But I miss your body... your warmth against me."

Lyra chuckled.

"Give me a goodnight kiss," he requested.

Rowan was completely immersed in flirting with his wife, not noticing Damian, who had been frozen behind him for a long time, mouth hanging open.

Slowly, Damian regained consciousness, realizing he shouldn’t have been listening.

He tried to step back quietly but accidentally bumped into a nearby chair. Quickly, he ducked and hid under the desk.

At the same time, Rowan spun around, trying to see who it was, but there was no one. He just brushed off the mouse who had accidentally scurried behind him earlier.

After the break, they quickly wrapped up the remaining points. Rowan needed to be back by the next day, with Martin and Kane expected to arrive as well.

The next day, as promised, Lyra sat in the waiting area, her gaze drifting to the arrival screen several times.

A woman sat down beside her, too close. Her lower face was hidden by a fully zipped trench coat, dark sunglasses masking her eyes.

The sudden intrusion made Lyra turn toward her.

Before she could move, the woman’s hand closed around her arm. A faint click sounded, followed by the cold press against her side.

"Behave normally. Stand up and walk," she murmured.

Lyra frowned, realized the woman had pressed a gun into her waist. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

"Who are you, and what do you want?" Lyra whispered back.

The woman grunted softly as she pressed the gun harder into her waist.

"Just shut up and walk with me. Now," she muttered through clenched teeth.

Afraid the gun might blow a hole through her waist at any moment, Lyra was forced to be obedient and follow the woman toward the airport exit.

She stole a glance at the arrival screen, checking whether Rowan’s flight had landed yet, silently hoping he would appear and save her.

As they walked through the exit, they had no choice but to pass a security guard who stood on duty nearby.

Lyra glanced at him and winked several times, trying repeatedly to catch his attention, but she failed.

He only smiled back and greeted them which frustrated her, and the woman shook her slightly.

"Don’t draw attention, idiot!" she warned.

"Who are you, and what do you want?" Lyra asked again.

When they reached the waiting car, the woman shoved her hard into the passenger seat.

A man in a face mask, dressed in black, seized her and pressed a napkin over her nose. The world blurred before she could struggle.

The two men in the front seats chuckled in satisfaction, as if they had just secured their meal for the day.

"Record everything, ruin her completely. I want it done today," she said, tossing the gun into the car as the man caught it.

"Yes, ma’am."

Camela smirked as she watched the car pull away.

Dante had left her no choice. Hiring the same men who had ruined Ivy was her last resort before she flew back to Ashvale.
