The Ultimate Chance-Chapter 156
Mina woke up to the sound of a chime and by the time she realized it was her phone, it had stopped ringing.
She glanced at Gabriel’s side of the bed with a frown. Where was he? It was way too early to be awake. She dropped the thought as soon as she remembered she had woken up to a phone call. No one would dare give her a call so early in the morning. No one wanted to die. She checked her phone and when she saw it was Avery, she smiled as she called back.
"Hey, stranger. You finally woke up." Avery sounded overjoyed on the other end.
"I’ve been sleeping like a log. You sound happy, care to share the good news?" She asked as she opened the curtains to let the sunshine in, taking a deep breath of the refreshing air. It was even more refreshing to hear what Avery had to say.
"We have enough evidence agaisnt Shirley. Finally, we can get rid of her."
"That’s definitely something worth waking up to." She let out a breath of relief. "That skank’s death is long overdue. What are you going to do?"
"Well, put her behind bars for starters." Said Avery.
She was about to groan about that being a slap on the wrist considering all the things Shirley had done when she caught the main point of Avery’s statement. For starters. There was always a chance to get rid of her once she was behind bars. If they wanted Shirley to be tortured for her entire sentence and eventually killed, that could be arranged too.
Finally, the world could rest a little more peaceful with Shirley out of the picture. Though she knew not to celebrate too soon.
"Let me know when she finally gets what she deserves, will you?"
"Of course."
Once the call ended, she left the room in search of her husband. She finally found him in the home office and knocked on the door, even though it was wide open.
Gabriel frowned at her. "Whilelmina Vaillant, are you looking for trouble?"
She bit her bottom lip. "Sorry, I was looking for you so..."
He waved her in and pulled her onto his lap. "You know that’s not what I mean, sweetheart." He tucked a lock of her hair behind her ear. "Why would you knock? This is your house."
"Well, I didn’t want to distract you."
"You distract me by simply existing. I can’t stop thinking about the things I want to do to you, some of which I’ll gladly do right now if you’re up for it."
"I just wanted to let you know Avery finally gathered enough evidence on Shirley, that’s all. I need to get a few things done.
"Hm," he was barely listening, too busy trailing a finger along her thighs. When his hand snaked under her dress, she feigned protest even while she wiggled her ass against his crotch.
"Gabe, I need to go." She said, keeping the little game up.
"Do you know ?" He smirked. He stood up with her in his arms and pushed his documents aside to place her on the desk. She was wearing a short summer dress with nothing underneath.
She had accidentally washed her panties in the same load as a bra she didn’t know would spew a ton of its red color on the rest of the load. Since she saw the mess that had become of her panties, she decided the way to solve that particular problem was to not wear any henceforth. He suddenly wanted to thank the offending bra’s manufacturer.
She smelled fucking delicious.
When he unbuckled his belt, she couldn’t help chuckling. "Not wasting any time, huh?"
"Since my wife wants to play this little game, might as well get on with it."

Avery had just settled at her desk when she received a phone call from Gabriel.
"Please, tell me you’re not going to take a day off." She spoke before he did.
He went quiet for a moment like he’d been cut off from what he was about to say. "And what would be the problem if I did that? It’s allowed, right?"
"Yes it is. But you and Mina...."She sighed. "Never mind. What were you going to tell me?"
"I have someone you may want to meet." Gabriel said, then he hung up.
She ran a hand through her hair. While Gabriel was helpful most of the time, he was driving her crazy in equal measure.
She considered ignoring him but realized what he must possibly mean, so she decided to go to his penthouse.
Like he guessed, he had Shirley in his basement, tied up and with duct tape covering her mouth.
Her eyes widened. "This was so not necessary. We had a plan."
"Of course you did. That’s why the antagonist in that plan of yours decided to take off. Her flight was going to depart in an hour." He laughed. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
She glared at Shirley. How did she find out? It didn’t matter. Besides, it would have been more surprising if she remained oblivious.
After her fight with her boyfriend, she must have guessed he would turn against her. If Alex actively kept Gemma away from her, that would cement her doubt.
"You can’t run that fast, after all." She scoffed, mocking Shirley.
"What should I do with her?" Asked Gabriel.
Avery looked at the woman and thought about it. If it was up to her, she would want Shirley to experience more pain than she had ever felt befopre. This woman ruined many people’s lives and that included those of people she loved. And if she was set free, she would do the same thing.
Not everyone knew when to stop and even if they did, not everyone actually stopped when they should. Besides, nothing that was already done could be turned back.
Which is exactly why she didn’t think torturing Shirley would help much. It would not undo any of the damage she caused.
So, she shrugged. "I never want her to ever show up before me again."
Gabriel nodded in understanding. His sister didn’t know what to do and was leaving it up to him.
"You’re in luck, Shirley." He grinned at her. "It’s been a while since I got to torture anyone. This should be fun for both of us. When you finally die, you will have earned it."
.....
That evening, she had just gotten from work and was dropping by Damon’s to pick up some of her things—she’d been leaving so many of her accessories and clothes and putting off picking them up she might as well move in.
In fact, Damon was in the middle of convincing her to do just that when Mabella came over.
"Hi, Avery." She flashed her a smile.
"You look radiant. Did something great happen? Well, apart from what happened to Shirley."
Mabella paused on her way to the guest room. "What happened to Shirley?"
"I don’t know either. Let’s just say she will no longer cause us any trouble." She said.
"Well, thank fuck. Chloe and I could use more good news." She hummed a tune on her way upstairs. When she returned, Avery eyed the bag she was carrying. "Uh...what’s with the bag?"
She flushed a little. "Just picking up what’s left of my things here. I’m moving in with Chloe."
"You are? Congratulations, you two." She crossed over the room and hugged her. "Well, that’s a big step."
"It is. Chloe and I haven’t been together for a long time but I know I’m doing the right thing. Nothing had ever felt this good or this right." She lowered her voice so Damon wouldn’t hear her.
"A step you aren’t ready to take with me yet, Vivi." Damon grabbed the chance to make his idea more appealing.
Avery sighed. "Thanks, mabella."
"Sorry," Mabella laughed, though she was not in the slightest bit sorry. "I’ll leave you two to figure that out."
When Mabella left, Damon resumed his coaxing. "You will always have me close to you."
"You’re already close to me."
"Not close enough." He grumbled.
When she glared at him, he quickly changed the topic, making a mental note to simply move over her things and leave her no choice . She would kill him, but still.
"Shirley’s ending is something worth celebrating." He pulled her into his arms. He didn’t know what became of her either. Gabriel had decided not to tell anyone what he actually did and they weren’t desperate to find out. As long as they were certain Shirley would not resurface and cause chaos, that was all that mattered.
That wasn’t to say Avery didn’t know what her man was up to. "You’re insatiable." She moaned when he kissed her neck.
"So you keep telling me." He trailed a kiss down her collar bone, drawing a soft sigh of pleasure from her. He carried her to his room and lay her gently on the bed, then climbed on after her.
He didn’t realize how much pressure he’d been feeling under until it was lifted from his shoulders. The woman who had almost managed to single-handedly destroy the trust he had spent so much time and effort building was finally gone—for good, this time.
All he wanted now was to spend the rest of the night in bed with Avery, and that was exactly what he was going to do. Gabriel had taken Angel for the night so he could bond some more with his nephew, giving them the chance to roll around the sheets all night if they wanted to.
