When Gad finally made his way to Avery’s office, she checked her watch.

"You’re ten minutes late." She said. "I gave you thirty minutes."

He bit his cheek to avoid saying something that would make the woman before him dole out worse punishment. She was heartless. Thirty minutes was not nearly enough time to gather any useful information, especially about someone who clearly did something they wouldn’t want anyone to find out.

It was a surprise he had found the information he had so fast.

"Did you find the answers I’m waiting for?" Avery probed, her face a mask of impatience.

He nodded frantically. "Yes ma’am. I scoured through the department and found out who entered my office while I was—"

She cut him off. "Who is it?" She had no interest in knowing what he was doing while his computer was raided. It would probably only infuriate her more.

He paused for a second to gather his wits. "An old employee. His name is Martin Du Pont."

She frowned. She knew Martin better than the back of her hand. He was one of the people she had hired herself as a leap of faith when Vaillant Telecommunications was just taking root and an employee could be the deciding factor whether the company thrived or drowned like hundreds others.

Hiring Martin, a young man with good grades and potential but no prior experience. It proved to be a good call at the time.

However, the young man grew greedy the more the company thrived and started stealing from her. Then she made a mistake that was coming back to haunt her now.

Instead of firing her, she weighed the benefit he had brought to Vaillant Telecommunications against the petty theft and decided it was enough to not give him the promotion he was looking forward to. Instead, she sent him to the marketing department where he would have little chance to steal.

"How should I deal with him?" Asked Gad, to which Avery smiled. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

"I’ll handle it."

The man was happy to be given some reprieve, he let out the breath he had been holding.

"Thank you, Miss Vaillant. If there’s nothing else, may I be excused?"

She eyed him for a while, making the man squirm under her gaze before she finally decided, "For your carelessness, you shall not receive your monthly bonus."

He was so happy he could take off.

There was nothing good about his bonus being deducted but considering this was Avery and she had unleashed the side of her that had almost been forgotten, it was a slap in the wrist. Heaven knew there was a very high chance she would fire him and even that would be the best-case scenario. Rumor had it that the foundation of Vaillant Telecommunications was built on uncountable skeletons and he had always thought it to be literal.

"Yes, Miss Vaillant." He said with a slight bow and high-tailed it out of Avery’s office before she could change her mind.

Avery’s amused smile faded as soon as the man left her office. She stood by the window and looked out into the city.

She was starting to realize for the first time that it was not a coincidence.

Martin could have sold the campaign to anyone. Why did it have to be to High Tide?

Or maybe, so much had happened lately that she was overthinking everything. That would make sense too.

"I think I’m being followed." Mina told Gabe as soon as they were back home and he was making dinner.

He stopped halfway through chopping a bell pepper. "Why would you think so?"

"I think I saw a man creeping around behind me when I was on my way to RA Vaille. When I turned, he was gone. The same thing happened while I walked to your car earlier." She finished explaining and realized she sounded paranoid. "I know it sounds crazy, but believe me..."

He cut her off with a kiss. "Your safety is not something to gloss over. I’ll make sure no one has the chance to get to you." He promised.

She was glad that he didn’t think she was out of her mind because after all that paranoia that amounted to nothing, she was starting to think she was indeed losing it.

What she didn’t expect was the humongous bodyguards looming around the house when she woke up the following morning. They didn’t enter the house but she saw their hulking figures through the window and knew they were not here for anyone else.

She ran out of the room and found Gabe, who was making breakfast.

"Who are those?" She asked. She didn’t need to tell him who she was talking about, he knew exactly what she meant.

"Bodyguards." He said and continued frying the sausages in his pan while she watched with interest. Since when did Gabe know how to cook?

He did cook shockingly well once in a while, but he often didn’t have the patience for it and some of the food ended up undercooked, and sometimes he would lose his focus and everything would be burned to crisp. Last night was one of those times when a nice, home cooked meal magically morphed into ordering takeout from the Italian restaurant down the block.

The sausages in the pan looked like they were actually going to taste good.

Sure enough, he was done soon and he plated them along with the waffles he had made.

She glanced at the plate then at him. "Who are you and what have you done to my husband?"

He grinned. "Do you need me to prove my identity, sweetheart?" He grabbed her boob and squeezed, groaning in satisfaction at how tender and sensitive it had become. He fondled the other as well, only for her to swat his hand away.

"Don’t you try to charm your way out of this. What are those hulking bodyguards doing here?"

"Protecting you." He shrugged.

She raised her brows at him. She already knew he had an insane number of bodyguards but she had never seen them hovering around before.

"I don’t want to scare my coworkers." She said.

"Don’t worry about that. You will not even know they exist."

When she still looked unconvinced, he chuckled. "Do you think Avery doesn’t have a gazillion bodyguards? Angel has some of his own too, but unless something happens, you will never know they exist."

If he put it that way...

Well, she was not going to assume Damon and Avery wouldn’t put more protective measures in place after Angel was kidnapped in school the last time. So she nodded. "Okay." After all, she was indeed worried about the person she thought was following her.

She had her breakfast in disbelief at how good it tasted and would have sworn Gabe ordered it in if she didn’t see him cook it himself.

When she was done, she was full and was going to go back upstairs to get ready for work when the man grabbed her by her arm and pulled her into his arms.

Before she could process it, he lifted her onto the kitchen island and ventured under the oversized tshirt she was wearing.

As usual, she had nothing underneath, so his fingers brushed against her bare pussy as soon as he stroked her.

"What are you doing?" She giggled, not that she wasn’t looking forward to finding out.

"Having my breakfast. You just had yours." He said seriously. Before she could say a word, he parted her legs further and buried his face between them.

He groaned when he had a taste of her. She was already soaking and ready for him. It was almost as if he had a switch to her body, which made her aroused as soon as he laid a finger on her.

He lapped at her wetness like he was starving, relishing the taste of her arousal.

Her body clenched. She couldn’t recognize the sound that came out of her when he sunk his tongue into her. His mouth was much softer than it looked, and she had always loved how it felt against her when they kissed.

On the most sensitive part of her body, it was the most erotic thing she had ever felt. Gabe let his tongue venture down parts of her she didn’t know were sexual, and it felt so good she was pretty certain it had to be illegal. There was no way something could feel this good and be allowed willy nilly.

She tried to sit up only for him to pin her down on the island with his arm, giving himself access to her pussy. She writhed and moaned as he licked and sucked gently, then roughly, almost bordering on the edge of pain. She could swear he knew her body better than she did. He always knew when to slow down, go harder, deeper, faster, rougher. He was a magician with his lips and tongue.

It was only when she shattered in the most earth-shattering orgasm that she realized he had not even touched her. He lapped up her climax hungrily and when he looked up at her, she realized he was only getting started in having his wicked way with her.
