The Ultimate War Of The Apocalypse-Chapter 668 - 661: The Dignity of the God of Guns
Chapter 668: Chapter 661: The Dignity of the God of Guns
As Yang Yi wanted gracefully sip on red wine and show off but couldn’t, ultimately being chased by zombies and forced to act as human GPS, Nate Schumacher was actually enjoying his red wine elegantly.
Dressed in a military uniform, swaying the red wine glass in his hand, Nate looked askance at the repairing Type 59 upgrade, a sneering smile on his face, raised his glass to Ram and said, "Do you know what is most important? People! Regardless of how much technology progresses, how society develops, or what form war evolves into, people are always the most important element."
Ram raised his glass and clinked it with Nate’s, then spoke with calm composure, "I agree with you."
Nate took a sip of his red wine, then he gazed at his glass and said solemnly, "You seem dejected."
"No, I’m not."
"Yes, you are."
Ram sighed resignedly and pointed to several Mechas by the side of the Type 59 upgrade, saying, "It was you who led the men to save them, but have you ever seen how Mechas fight?"
Nate shook his head.
Ram spoke helplessly, "I have, so I know that times have changed. Mad Wolf, our era is over, and the mode of warfare has changed. I am God of Guns, but I am the last generation of God of Guns; after myself, there will be no more Gods of Guns in this world, because the weapon of guns has been phased out, just as bows and arrows were replaced by muskets."
Nate smiled, shook his head, and said, "I haven’t seen how Mechas fight, but I know that those Mechas can’t move now, and you and I, we are here guarding the Mechas with our guns."
Ram sighed, "That’s after they’ve eliminated at least several hundred thousand monsters, then they’ll need our protection. Mad Wolf, accept reality, no matter the outcome of the war with the Aliens, we’re no longer the main characters in battle."
Nate put down his wine glass onto the pristine tablecloth and sat up, looking at Ram attentively.
Ram emptied the red wine from his glass in one gulp, laughing, "Thanks for your wine, although I think you’re quite... showy."
Nate continued to sit upright, his voice soft as he said, "I came here to save you, knowing that you were going to wage one last battle; I knew you would put yourself into a corner with no way out. You would either win or die."
Ram nodded and spoke softly, "Yes, when I realized I had no other choice, I was ready to stake everything."
Nate smiled and said, "That’s why I came to save you, but I didn’t expect that I’d be rescuing them. What surprised me even more is that you weren’t among these people."
"Because I would have been useless in there..."
Nate exhaled and picked up the wine bottle, pouring more red wine into Ram’s glass, then he spoke in a low voice, "I had originally planned to open a bottle of red wine after rescuing you, to either celebrate victory or have one last drink, but I never imagined that it would be under these circumstances."
Ram smiled and said, "You wanted to show off in front of me, right?"
Nate shook his head, then said softly, "The battle lasted less than ten minutes, but I’ve lost over half of my men. The casualties occurred faster than any battle I’ve ever experienced in my life. Ram, sixteen of Angel’s people died in less than ten minutes, no severe injuries, no minor injuries, only casualties."
Ram remained silent for a moment before saying, "None of my men died, I mean, none of Satan’s men died, Nate, thank you."
Nate waved his hand and said in a low voice, "I don’t want to hear you say thank you. What I want to say is that sixteen of my men are dead, more than half of the troops I led are dead, but I still have to set up a table here, lay the tablecloth, and drink red wine. Why? Because if they see me here drinking wine, they know that I am still here, I am still myself."
Nate reached out his hand and pointed to those lingering tanks and the soldiers sitting under the shade the tanks provided.
"When they see I’m still here, they won’t panic, they won’t be confused. They know I’m still here, that the Angel is still here, and we have to keep fighting, no matter who the enemy is, we’ll keep fighting."
After speaking, Nate pointed at Ram and said, "But you are different now."
Ram frowned and said, "Different? How am I different?"
"Yes, the you that was above it all has disappeared, you no longer think of yourself as the invincible God of Guns."
Ram said with his hand out, "Wait a minute, ’above it all’? Are you saying I was arrogant? When have I ever been so arrogant as to be ’above it all’?"
Nate laughed, his voice low as he said, "Weren’t you arrogant? Dare you say you weren’t? Look at what you’ve done. Ram, you come across as humble, but that’s your disguise. When you have a gun in your hand, you dare to slay God."
Ram raised his wine glass, shook it at Nate, and once again drained the red wine in one gulp.
"You’ve lost confidence, you are no longer arrogant, are you prepared to start doing things by the book? Ram? Are you still the invincible Ram?"
Ram tapped his wine glass with his finger, but Nate didn’t pour more wine; he just smiled and said, "I am a very proud person, because I try to reclaim what Germany has lost. You know what I want; you should also know how difficult my ideal is. Do you think I can achieve it? And now?"
Ram said nothing, and Nate continued indifferently, "In Ukraine, I was almost beaten by reality. You put two holes in my leg, making it much more difficult for me to move around, but I had to thank you, thank you for awakening me from a moment of crushing defeat. And now, Ram..."
Nate leaned forward, looking intently at Ram as he said solemnly, "You are the best marksman I have ever seen, the best marksman I have ever heard of. Since the advent of firearms, you have stood at the pinnacle of mankind. Calling you ’God of Guns’, you deserve it, but are you now ready to give up your pride?"
Ram said in a low voice, "You’ve never seen..."
"I’ve never seen what? How Mecha fight in battle? Haha, Ram, there’s much I haven’t seen. Before the Serpent People came, I had never even seen Aliens, but what does that matter?" freewebnσvel.cøm
Nate’s smile faded, and his face grew stern. Raising his voice, he said, "You are the only person... I admire. Yes, I admire you, surprising, right? You are the strongest of humanity. Since the strongest individual weapon of humans is the gun, then you are the strongest voice that humanity can produce. You can’t, you just can’t give up like this, you can’t just surrender, you have to defend our dignity as soldiers!"
"Many admire me, you... are just one of them. What I defend is not the dignity of soldiers, nor is it the dignity of mercenaries."
Ram tapped his wine glass and said, "Pour it for me, and I want to tell you that Xinghe says what I’m defending is the dignity of humanity, but I don’t think so. What I want to defend is just the last bit of dignity a marksman has. Maybe guns are outdated, maybe the ways of war will change, but as a marksman, I will show the Aliens what a marksman with a gun can do."
