The Ultimate War Of The Apocalypse-Chapter 690 - 683: The Greatest Achievement
Chapter 690: Chapter 683: The Greatest Achievement
A Celestial and a Serpent Person were conversing on Earth in the language of the Earthlings.
Xinghe was using self-destruction to stop the Serpent People’s attack, and it seemed like the Serpent People were indeed frightened.
But Gao Yuan’s sense of humiliation grew stronger, even surpassing his curiosity.
"You once monitored us long ago, but then stopped, why?"
The Serpent Person spoke again, and Xinghe replied indifferently, "No reason. It’s meaningless. We just wanted to determine your level of evolution, the direction of your evolution, and... whether you would pose a threat to us. After concluding that your evolutionary and technological directions are wrong, that you would never pose a threat to us, we lost interest in you."
Gao Yuan suddenly felt a tight string within him, and from this moment, he seemed to catch a familiar scent.
It was the scent of deceit.
"Our evolutionary direction is wrong?"
Xinghe continued, "Yes, you have yet to achieve immortality, and the finite lifespan is a shackle to a civilization. You will never break through the limits of evolution. Therefore, you can only expand. You invade everywhere in the universe, yet you can’t resolve the fundamental issue. And your technology, it must not have made any breakthroughs for a long time, right?"
It was clear that Xinghe was bluffing.
The Serpent Person suddenly said, "Immortality? No, we don’t think immortality is necessary."
Xinghe said nothing, just staring at the Serpent Person speaking in front of her.
"We discovered your starship, and your starship is on the same level as ours. I admit, a long time ago you were the first to enter the space age, but now your starships have not improved from before. Why is that?"
Xinghe replied nonchalantly, "How old are you? I mean, how long have you lived?"
"##%@... according to the time on this planet, I have lived for four thousand years, three thousand four hundred of which I spent in hibernation."
The Serpent Person first used a unit of time unknown on Earth, and upon realizing it was untranslatable, immediately switched to a unit understandable by Earthlings, which only drew Xinghe’s disdain.
Xinghe said with a clearly disdainful tone, "So, you are born on the spaceship of your generation?"
"Yes, naturally born, not cloned."
"Your physical appearance has changed to what it is now due to the gravity changes on the spaceship, and you are about to die. Your real age is equivalent to six hundred years on this planet, but you’re nearly dead. You’ve been to many planets, right? Most people on your home planet have never seen what you have, right? But you’re about to die, or continue in hibernation, but what’s the difference from being dead? Your knowledge, your experiences, your expertise, they can only become samples for the next generation to learn. But can they become you by learning?"
"They will surpass me."
"Really? Who was it that led your people into the space age? Who was the scientist that made the breakthrough developments? How many years has it been since he died? Has anyone surpassed him? Is there anyone who can continue to lead you forward?"
Xinghe posed a soul-searching question, but the Serpent People replied with silence.
Xinghe lifted her head, and even though her face was inside the Mecha, her voice was filled with pride.
"We achieved Immortality long ago, and when Immortality finally became a reality, the one leading us continued to do so. He achieved one breakthrough after another, drawing ever closer to our ultimate goal!"
The Serpent People suddenly said, "What is your ultimate goal?"
"To surpass the speed of light, to enter an entirely new and unknown realm. We’ve already explored the places you have, and the places you haven’t, we’ve explored as well. When you need new sources of energy to hasten your exploration, you’ll find that we’ve already exhausted the resources available. So while you’re busy boasting everywhere, we’ve moved on to other matters. You’re no threat; like the Earthlings, you’re just a lower-level civilization that we watch in silence."
The Serpent Person seemed to ponder before finally saying, "Your starship doesn’t seem as good as you claim. If your civilization has entered a new phase, then your starship shouldn’t have been shot down by us."
Xinghe replied with great disdain, "Shot down by you? Mind your language, low-level being from a low-level civilization."
"The fact remains, we shot down your starship."
Xinghe laughed derisively and then said coldly, "This place is merely a planet under observation, and I, merely a semi-mechanical being executing an observation mission. My starship is the most basic of interstellar crafts. You dared to attack me, and after I was forced to destroy my own starship, you lowly beings have found yourselves in trouble. Do you know what ’trouble’ means? You will anger a superior civilization, and your expansion here on this world will meet its end. As for whether your home planet will continue to exist, I have my doubts."
The Serpent Person’s expression changed, but their electronic voice and pace remained unaltered.
"You have introduced civilization to this planet, why? Yet you refuse to give it to us, why?"
"Because you angered me. I gave this lower civilization some basic theories, and with them, they could create devices enough to reestablish communication with my home world. Everything else is no longer a problem. My planet is already aware of what has happened here, and I think you will soon realize the consequences."
"The humans of this planet have entered the early stages of civilization; they are not primitive creatures. Based on the information provided by humans who have pledged allegiance to us, you are looking for a starship that was left here long ago. Why?"
Xinghe suddenly said, "You ask many questions, but I no longer wish to communicate with a lower being from a low-level civilization. You’re about to die, so why talk so much? I don’t care what you did before, but I do care that you’re occupying the planet I’m responsible for observing. And you even attacked me."
Xinghe impatiently waved her hand and then angrily said, "You are but a representative of a low-level civilization and you’re about to die. What makes you different from those low-grade creatures? Now I can’t stop you from capturing me, studying me, and obtaining our technology. This makes me even more furious. Get lost; I’m going to self-destruct. I don’t want to die with you."
The Serpent Person made a stopping gesture with their hand, then said in a cold tone, "Don’t self-destruct. I’ll leave; we will not try to forcibly take you, but could you tell me how we might engage in civilization exchange?"
Gao Yuan was desperately making faces at Xinghe; and although Xinghe saw Gao Yuan gesticulating, she had no idea what he meant.
"Leave this planet and never return."
As soon as Xinghe spoke, Gao Yuan knew she had misunderstood; sure enough, the Serpent Person immediately said, "We can do that, but we require compensation. You know as well as I do how rare habitable planets are; we can’t simply give up a livable planet without satisfactory recompense."
Xinghe almost blurted out the word ’Immortality’, but this time, after catching Gao Yuan’s gaze, she became wise. Thus, she replied at once, "No! It won’t do... I gave you chances before. I let the Earthlings take a sample of my blood to you, I attempted to negotiate, but you brutally refused. That enraged me, so no, I won’t give you anything more!"
