Chapter 1386: Chapter 1386: She’s Investigating the Person Behind Mrs. Gordon

Second floor.

He was carrying a cup of hot milk and knocked on the girl’s door.

"It’s unlocked."

A playful voice came from inside, sounding quite hoarse, with a touch of nonchalance.

Just hearing her voice, Amadeus Yancey’s brow relaxed, and he felt much better. He reached out, pushed open the door, and walked in.

Nathalie Quinlan’s room was on the second floor, the bedroom with the best lighting.

Rhine’s house was expensive, and the layout naturally matched the price.

The apartment’s bedrooms were mostly suites, complete with walk-in closets and bathrooms.

The design was very much in black, white, and gray tones, but because Nathalie lived there, Amadeus Yancey replaced the floor-to-ceiling window curtains with light white gauze and placed a lot of green plants in the bedroom. He also designed a bookshelf by her bedside table for her convenience.

Upon entering, he saw the girl with one leg crossed on the chair, the other casually placed under the desk. She had changed into loungewear, and beneath her clothes, her legs were long, shapely, and straight, with delicate, slender ankles and dazzlingly fair skin.

Nathalie herself restrained her rowdy demeanor, sitting there with her laptop on, tapping something on the keyboard with her uninjured left hand.

If not for her right hand hanging to one side, still wrapped in gauze, with her carefree aura, she didn’t look like someone who had just been in a car accident.

Amadeus Yancey walked over, placed the milk where her left hand could reach, and glanced down at the brazenly displayed data on her laptop: "Are you investigating Mrs. Gordon?"

"Hmm." Nathalie hadn’t intended to hide it from him. Otherwise, she could easily have closed the page before he came in. Instead, she leaned back, took her hands away from the keyboard, and said lazily yet sternly, "Do you believe she acted alone?"

Amadeus Yancey chuckled softly, his sexy Adam’s apple bobbing, and his thin lips spoke with a biting chill, "I don’t believe it."

Nathalie raised her eyelids, casting him a sidelong glance, knowing he was just as skeptical as she was.

Seeing her side-eye glance, Amadeus Yancey’s heart, like being scratched by a cat, felt a tingly itch. He reached out to tidy the black hair that hung over her brow, then handed her the milk from the table: "Drink some milk first."

Despite the girl furrowing her brows, she still obediently took the cup of milk from him.

Then he moved aside, pulled up a chair, and sat down.

"I looked into Mrs. Gordon’s background. She doesn’t know many people, and her daily routine involves meeting familiar faces at the salon. With her social circle, it’s impossible for her to know someone like the driver involved..."

Nathalie was still sitting there in a lazy pose, even if she was holding back her temper, she still looked like someone you wouldn’t want to mess with.

Amadeus Yancey was voicing her own thoughts.

After she found Mrs. Gordon’s transfer records, Nathalie felt something was off.

It wasn’t blatantly obvious, but the matter reeked of deliberate orchestration, as if an unseen hand was pushing the events forward.

And if she managed to escape this ordeal and investigate, it would immediately lead to Mrs. Gordon, who’d been set up as a scapegoat.

Seeing Nathalie half-close her eyes, her raven lashes hanging low, lost in thought, Amadeus Yancey said softly, "But in this matter, the Gordons were just as involved in shady dealings as she was. Since she dared to do it and let herself be used as a pawn, she should be prepared to face the consequences. The situation she and the Gordons are in now is a result of her own choices. She has no one else to blame."
