Chapter 711: Chapter 711: Remember You Are Prince Min’s Consort

Prince Min walked into the bridal chamber and stood by the door, observing the person inside, and suddenly feeling the clamor fade away.

Outside, the banquet and wine were in full swing, yet here, except for a chilling quietude, there seemed to be no one else. Oh, that person was sitting by the bed, holding a scroll, her eyes half-closed.

He walked over and took the scroll from her hands. She seemed startled awake, her eyes suddenly opened wide. Upon seeing him, her pupils betrayed a moment of frightened panic, and she stood up instinctively, twisting her hands.

Prince Min gave a slight tug at the corner of his mouth; he had thought she would remain as calm as undisturbed pond water.

He glanced down at the scroll in his hand; it was the Heart Sutra, which he placed on the table.

Princess Chongyang felt her mouth dry, secretly taking a breath before asking, "You’ve returned. Has the banquet outside ended?"

Prince Min smirked, "How could it end so fast? As the groom, a night in spring is worth a thousand pieces of gold; it would be impossible to stay with the guests until the end. Did you not know?"

Princess Chongyang caught the implication of his words, the color drained from her face, turning slightly pale. She had been instructed by her elders and had some of those little booklets hidden that would make one blush, naturally understanding what he meant.

Prince Min gazed steadily at her, taking in all her panic.

He was not unafraid either.

"There’s no need for alarm; sit down first, and I will freshen up," said Prince Min.

Princess Chongyang immediately asked, "Shall I call someone in to assist you?"

"No need." 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

Prince Min left with those words and entered the washroom.

Princess Chongyang sat back down awkwardly, pouring two cups of tea on the table, and began to let her mind wander helplessly.

What should she do later?

Prince Min seemed to deliberately waste time, staying in the washroom for quite a while before emerging, already changed into casual home attire.

"Join me to eat a little," he said, sitting by the table and picking up his chopsticks.

Princess Chongyang stood by his side, taking the serving chopsticks to help him with the food.

Prince Min remarked, "Sit down; there’s no need to do these things." After a pause, he continued, "Remember your status; you are Princess Min. Serving food is for the servants to do."

Princess Chongyang paused, "Yes."

The two sat in silence, except for the occasional pop from the dragon-and-phoenix candles.

Prince Min quietly ate a few bites, then put down his chopsticks and asked, "These past years, how have you been living?"

Princess Chongyang looked at him in surprise, then lowered her head and said, "Just like this, day by day, year after year, accompanied by music, chess, calligraphy, and painting, watching flowers bloom and wilt, spring pass by, winter arrive, the sun rise and set."

In Prince Min’s eyes, a complex emotion arose, and he fell silent.

Seeing he didn’t respond, Princess Chongyang hesitated for a while and said, "Please be at ease, my Lord, I have long turned my heart to Buddha. Having married into the Prince Mansion, I only need a courtyard to devoutly worship Buddha; you might as well pretend I do not exist."

"Devoutly worship Buddha?" Prince Min, with a half-smile, said, "Has Buddha given you everything you’ve dreamt of, heard what’s in your heart?"

Princess Chongyang frowned.

Suddenly losing interest in continuing the conversation, Prince Min said, "You should go and settle down first."

Princess Chongyang: "..."

Prince Min took the jug and cup of wine from the table, poured himself a drink, and spoke no more, only sipping lightly.

Seeing this, Princess Chongyang dared not actually leave to sleep on her own, so she sat by the side, undisturbed by Prince Min.

Eventually, unable to resist the pull of sleep, Princess Chongyang rested her head on the table and dozed off.

Prince Min looked at her face; his gaze was cold and aloof, his lips moved slightly as he drank the wine in one go.
