Chapter 206 -6: Filth_2
Komer found himself still filled with longing for Tracy, a feeling that was even more intense than before they had spoken. This was now purely a physical attraction and desire. Tracy’s skillful teasing and hints had inflamed Komer’s passion several times. The memory of her delicate body, as tender as porcelain, and her soul-stirring, sensuous moans echoed in Komer’s mind, making the thought of having her submit beneath him once again an irresistible desire.
However, Tracy’s timely words had managed to quell the burgeoning lust within Komer. He was not opposed to this tradeoff that was almost nakedly political and carnal, but now was not the time. Vero, with her keen intuition, was already showing concern about his relationship with Tracy—a good sign that Komer did not wish to turn sour. Perhaps another time and place would be better; now was not it.
The response Komer gave Tracy was intentionally vague. He had his own demands: lifting the ban on the export of food and weapons from other regions of Homer to the Caucasus and restoring the tariffs to their original levels were Komer’s prerequisites. Tracy agreed to convey his message to Duke Philip upon her return to Cyprus. Komer held no hope for such diplomatic promises; he figured things would remain as they were.
As he strolled through the square, a sense of indescribable comfort soaked through Komer’s being as if he had suddenly entered a warm ocean in the nude. There was a feeling of return, even the air seemed full of life and vigor. The sunlight seemed to lose its scorching heat and faded to a gentle, bright dimness devoid of any stabbing pain or burning sensation; bathing in it felt like it had the power to purify.
Komer looked up at the sky in surprise, for at that moment, it had turned a strange shade of pale blue, distinctly different from the clear azure it had been outside the castle earlier.
At that time, an anomaly seemed to appear around the obelisk in the center of the square. Around it, a circle of auspicious qi light enveloped the space, which underwent bursts of distortions. However, this state didn’t last long. As a harsh screeching filled the air, the auspicious qi light vanished abruptly, the entire space blurred and wavered, and then everything returned to calm. The sky regained its vivid blue, the statues remained statues, and the stele continued to stand in the center of the square.
It was then that Komer noticed several men dressed as mages standing around the center of the square, still inspecting something along the boundary ditch. So, it was these fellows who were up to something.
The square’s center had always been an ancient starry sky magic array but without the Divine Artifact and the necessary spells to bridge and direct, this gigantic star magic could not be triggered. Both elements were essential, and although it seemed that these men almost managed to activate the array, they ultimately failed. Only then did Komer realize that what he had just witnessed and felt were the beginning traces of star magic power igniting, causing a spatio-temporal variation.
Rebry looked at the ashes of his magic wand with frustration.
The Illusion Magic Wand that had been with him for over a decade had vanished into thin air, turned into smoke. The power of this ancient magic array was indeed unmatched, affecting even this entire space, causing an abnormal metamorphosis. Sadly, the material of his wand was not nearly sufficient to sustain the operation of the array, disintegrating into ash under the tremendous magic load after only a few minutes. The spells could only manage the initial phase of the magic operation.
“Newman, it seems we can never get this magic array operational, although we all know it’s a large magic array, it looks like it can only be activated by something that truly qualifies as a divine artifact. But where can we find such a divine item now?” A troubled Rebry couldn’t help but look up to the heavens and sigh, seeing an opportunity arise, yet being powerless to seize it.
“Rebry, I’m afraid that even the divine artifact has to match the magical properties of this magic array. The Star Magic Array belongs to Neutral Magic; it’s not too strict about the properties of the magical instruments. Instruments from both the Light Series and the Elemental Series should be able to do the job, but they would have different effects. Given that this Star Magic Array uses a large amount of light combination magic, a light series magical instrument would be the most suitable. Your wand is an earth-type magic device; although it can also push the array’s operation, it’s hard to last, wastefully using up a magic device.”
The pale-faced thin and dry magician shook his head and sighed, “But these divine items of the light series are generally held by the Church of Light. Where can we get one? The general light magic instruments can’t support it, it’s not like we can just rob the Church of Light. Who designed this Star Magic Array, anyway? It’s so vast, yet it uses light magic as a guide; doesn’t he know that this land is situated above the Eye of Darkness?”
Executing opposing magical attributes in an environment with opposing properties often requires more magic power. The Eye of Darkness is a sacred place of dark and chilly nature. Light magic cast here will be greatly reduced, while the effectiveness of the Dark Series and Elemental Series magic such as water and ice will be enhanced. This is caused by the different environments.
“Hmph, if there really is no other way, we’ll have to borrow one or two divine artifacts from the Church of Light; it’s just unfortunate that the two fellows lurking outside the castle are knights. If they were priests or magicians, maybe we could think of some way with their help.” Rebry sighed with some regret, “It’s really astonishing; despite being a dark holy land, the magic array set up here primarily uses light magic. The designer of this magic array truly is a fucking genius, deliberately making it so that only a person of all trades can enter this castle.”
“Not necessarily, the main reason is not that,” said the thin and dry magician as he looked at the statues around the square, thoughtfully adding, “It’s precisely because this place is located above the Eye of Darkness. Although it’s our cultivation holy land and is greatly beneficial to our cultivation, for ordinary people, such a place is somewhat harmful to the body. Long-term residence here will gradually damage the body due to the Nether Qi, unless one uses a divine item of light magic or Fire Magic power to counterbalance and compensate. Otherwise, this castle will suffer from yin-yang imbalance, with excessive yin and diminishing yang, making it uninhabitable.”
“The Miranda family took this into account when they designed and built this castle. Besides using this huge magic array to gather yang, have you noticed the platforms in the middle of those small platforms, almost every few tens of meters on top of the castle’s third floor that look like roof gardens?”
“They are made from rare Flame Light Stones, which, although not Magic Crystals, can absorb sunshine and release light and heat at night. This is how the castle maintains yin-yang balance, making it both a cultivation holy land and a place suitable for ordinary people to live. Such a place where yin and yang energies are both abundant can also greatly benefit ordinary people’s physique. It’s just that those half-baked ones were frightened by the Land of Underworld and never considered how such a castle, inherited over a hundred years, could be so simple.”
Rebry was a bit flushed, not sure if the other person’s words were directed at him. Finally, another slender mage who had stood by silently spoke, “Newman, stop showing off your knowledge. We’ve got a good grasp of the essentials of this magic array; the problem now is the lack of a divine artifact. Divine artifacts of the light series are not easy to find. I’m afraid it will be tough to find a divine artifact that qualifies on this land. You’d better focus on those ban mechanisms; that’s our real target. Apart from teleportation, this Star Magic Array doesn’t seem to have any other uses. God knows where it might send us. I’m not interested in traveling to a different world.”
