Chapter 31: Chapter 31: No One Can Bully My Son

Naomi Kenway shoved the butler aside and slowly advanced. The jagged opening of the vase was pointed directly at the male servant’s neck. The moment she pushed it forward slightly, the man cried out in fear.

Her eyes were bloodshot with rage, her voice bone-chilling. "I’ll ask you again. How long has this been going on?"

"I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry..." The servant was scared witless, able to do nothing but mindlessly repeat his apologies.

Naomi Kenway raised her hand and slapped him. Her slender fingers wrapped around his throat. "I asked you, how long have you been bullying him?"

"H-How long..." With his throat constricted, the male servant couldn’t breathe, let alone speak.

The butler finally understood what was happening. Though his heart ached, he still moved to stop Naomi Kenway, afraid that if this continued, a life would be lost.

Naomi Kenway also knew not to go too far. She released her grip, looking down on the vermin kneeling on the floor, coughing wretchedly.

"How did he get hired?"

The butler bowed. "I failed to conduct a proper background check. It was my dereliction of duty..."

"Spare me the excuses. Get him out of my sight!"

The butler made a call, and soon, bodyguards stationed downstairs came up and dragged the male servant away.

"This is the last time. Otherwise, you can forget about being a butler here."

Naomi Kenway’s gaze was vicious. Her son was her bottom line, and that would never change.

The butler recognized his mistake. He glanced at the other servants. "Madam, should we dismiss all of them? We could give them hush money... after all, you’re a public figure."

"No need," Naomi Kenway cut him off. "It’s better to keep them. Now, no one will ever dare to bully my son behind my back again!"

The butler nodded in acknowledgment and led the other servants downstairs.

Naomi Kenway slowly closed her eyes. When she turned back around, the viciousness in them had vanished.

She sat down beside Ian Shaw. "Annie, has he always been bullying you like this?"

Ian Shaw nodded, then shook his head, before finally nodding again.

A pang of heartache shot through Naomi Kenway. ’Guess I didn’t kick him nearly hard enough.’

"Why didn’t you tell your father and me?"

"He said... Mom and Dad don’t like kids who cause trouble..." Ian Shaw looked timid as he said this.

Ian Shaw was very smart, but he had long been deprived of his parents’ company. His personality had become introverted and sensitive, and he was easily influenced by what others said.

Naomi Kenway blinked, her eyes dry. "Annie, you have to always remember something. No matter what happens, no matter the circumstances, no matter anything else, your father and I will always love you! This love is unconditional. No matter what you do, we will always, always love you!"

Ian Shaw’s eyes flickered, and he shuffled his small feet together uncertainly.

Unable to hold back, Naomi Kenway embraced her son as tears streamed down her face. "From now on, tell me everything, okay? Mommy really loves you. I love you so, so much..."

’Her long-suppressed emotions finally had an outlet. That terrible nightmare had haunted her for far too long. She could only watch helplessly as her son grew more and more withdrawn, shutting himself off and refusing to communicate with anyone. He achieved greater and greater success in his research—the title "Genius Researcher" followed him for years—but he completely forgot how to smile.’

’He was like a delicate, beautiful flower, but the nutrients in his pot weren’t enough for him to draw from. So he slowly withered, until he died.’

’The eighteenth floor... it’s so high. What was he thinking the moment he jumped? Was he cursing the world for its cruelty, or was he celebrating his final release?’

’Did he ever think of me? His mother... the irresponsible monster he yearned for...’

"Mom..." Ian Shaw didn’t understand why Naomi Kenway was so emotional. He wanted to hug her back just as tightly to comfort her, but his rational mind told him to pull away.

’There are no cameras around. Mom will go back to being the moody person she was before.’

Ian Shaw didn’t dare to move. He knew his mother was crying, and had been for a long time, until his shoulder was soaked with her tears. He didn’t dare to speak, but he could feel a bitter ache in his own heart. It was a terrible feeling.

After a while, Naomi Kenway finally composed herself. Her voice was thick with emotion when she spoke.

"Let me get you a change of clothes."

Naomi Kenway went to the closet and found that most of the clothes inside were too small for him now. ’This is all evidence of my neglect.’

Naomi Kenway took out her phone and told the butler to go buy some new clothes immediately.

After finding one outfit that was the right size, Naomi Kenway personally helped Ian Shaw change.

Naomi Kenway noticed that her son’s body was stiff the entire time she was changing his clothes; he didn’t dare to move. ’He’s afraid of me.’

"Annie," Naomi Kenway said. "I will never, ever hurt you, no matter what. It doesn’t matter if there are cameras or not. I... I wasn’t in my right mind before. That’s why I was so awful to you. I promise I’ll change from now on. Can you forgive me?"

Her apology was sincere.

Ian Shaw stared at her in disbelief. He thought of how gentle his mother had been on the show, and then he slowly reached out and wrapped his arms around Naomi Kenway’s shoulders.

"Mom..."

Naomi Kenway knew he was slowly starting to adapt.
