The Villain Mom Awakens — Going Viral by Parenting on a Reality Show-Chapter 41 - 42: Purchasing Items with 20 Yuan
[Ruby Preston and Margaret Jennings are just standing by, enjoying the show. The "serene and beautiful" duo, hahaha.]
[Renee Jennings’s move was really something... If Naomi Kenway hadn’t exposed her, was she just going to keep guilt-tripping people? She really showed her true colors!]
[Why does everyone have such a problem with Rachel? Everyone forgets things sometimes. Rachel is just a normal person. Can’t netizens tolerate a single mistake from someone these days?]
[Well, I can’t! Renee Jennings’s fans are just like her, always trying to brainwash people. So what, you think you’re the only good, pure, and beautiful ones in the world, is that it?]
[Rachel is a really kind person; she even takes stray cats home. I don’t believe she would do something like that. This must be a misunderstanding!]
...
Noticing Naomi Kenway’s teasing gaze, Renee Jennings could barely maintain the smile on her face.
’It’s all Naomi Kenway’s fault! She’s the one who made me look like a fool and put me in this awkward position!!’
Once the matter was settled, the tour guide picked up his megaphone again. "I trust everyone is packed and ready. Now, please receive your first mission for this segment!"
Naomi Kenway took the mission card from a staff member. "Thank you."
Please proceed to the nearby market to purchase necessities for surviving three days and two nights in the rainforest.
Naomi Kenway pulled the mission card out and found twenty yuan in cash inside the envelope.
"Twenty yuan?"
The tour guide continued, "That’s right. Those twenty yuan are your funds for the shopping trip."
"You’ve got to be kidding me," Chelsea Raines said in disbelief. "Only twenty yuan for three days? I might as well go chew on bricks! What can you even buy with twenty yuan?! Is this supposed to be a family show? This is extreme survival!!"
Even Ruby Preston frowned, a rare sight. "This doesn’t seem very reasonable, does it? We’ll have to spend this money wisely."
The tour guide pretended not to hear their complaints and said with a smile, "The market isn’t far, just to the east. I’ll wait for you to meet back here at 6 PM. Once you’ve finished shopping, we’ll head deep into the rainforest."
Naomi Kenway glanced at her watch. It was 4:00, which meant they had two hours to work with.
While the other guests were still behind them complaining, Naomi Kenway had already taken Ian Shaw’s hand and started walking toward the market.
When Renee Jennings saw that Naomi Kenway was already one step ahead, she instantly lost the mood to complain and shouted anxiously, "Nina is already on her way! We should get going too!"
Without waiting for the other guests to react, Renee Jennings hurriedly took Nathan Lynch and chased after them.
Nathan Lynch was low on energy. "Mom, can we slow down a little? Nathan can’t really keep up..."
"Nathan, you’re too weak. How many times has Mommy told you that you need to exercise with your tutor? Don’t always think about slacking off."
Nathan Lynch’s eyes reddened. "Nathan didn’t slack off. Nathan practiced running really hard..."
"If you practiced so hard, how could you not be fast? Nathan, are you being an honest boy? If you slacked off, you slacked off. Why won’t you admit it!"
Sensing she had spoken a bit too harshly, Renee Jennings softened her tone. "It’s okay, sweetie. Mommy believes this is the last time, and you won’t slack off again, right? And don’t blame Mommy. I’m only doing this for your own good."
Nathan Lynch didn’t say anything.
’The kid isn’t very big, but he sure has a temper.’
Renee Jennings commented inwardly.
Naomi Kenway and her son were the first pair to arrive at the market. It was bustling with activity, lined with all sorts of stalls and shouting vendors.
Ian Shaw stayed close to Naomi Kenway’s side, his eyes curiously taking in everything around them. "Mommy, where are we?"
"This is the market." Naomi Kenway suddenly lifted Ian Shaw up, sitting him on her shoulders so he could get a better view.
"A market is where lots of vendors sell all kinds of things. Son, look! There’s a pinwheel over there!"
Ian Shaw looked over at the sound of her voice. "So pretty!"
The weather was scorching, and beads of sweat the size of peas formed on Ian Shaw’s forehead. Naomi Kenway’s heart ached seeing this. She took off her baseball cap and used it to fan him. "Is that a little cooler?"
Ian Shaw pushed her hand away. "Don’t fan me. Mommy will be hot without her hat. Ian doesn’t want you to fan him!"
"It’s okay. Mommy’s a grown-up; I’m not afraid of the heat."
Ian Shaw still shook his head. "No. Ian is a little hero, and a little hero has to protect his mommy! That’s what my teacher said!"
With that, Ian Shaw took the cap from Naomi Kenway’s hand and personally placed it on her head for her.
"There we go."
A warm feeling washed over Naomi Kenway’s heart.
She saw a freezer up ahead and asked, "Ian, do you want a popsicle?"
Ian Shaw swallowed, then shook his little head. "No, I don’t. Mommy should save the money to buy things."
Naomi Kenway chuckled softly and walked over.
After looking them over carefully, Naomi Kenway chose a popsicle with the fewest additives that also wouldn’t be too hard on his teeth.
This popsicle cost five yuan.
"Here you go, Ian."
Ian Shaw didn’t dare to take it. "Mommy, what if we run out of money?"
"Don’t worry, Mommy has a plan."
Naomi Kenway unwrapped the popsicle and handed it to Ian Shaw.
Ian Shaw took it but held it up to Naomi Kenway’s mouth. "Mommy gets the first bite."
Naomi Kenway took a small bite. "Mommy already had some. Go on and eat, Ian."
Only then did Ian Shaw take a bite.
"Is it sweet?"
"Sweet!" Ian Shaw smiled, completely content.
After a short walk around, Naomi Kenway also bought Ian Shaw a bottle of water and a piece of candy. Now, they had nine yuan left.
They turned a corner and ran into the other groups. When Jared Woods saw Ian Shaw’s popsicle, he tried to snatch it, but Ian Shaw deftly dodged him.
Jared Woods stomped his foot in anger, tugging on Chelsea Raines’s sleeve. "Mommy, I want a popsicle! I want a popsicle!"
Chelsea Raines was holding a bag of steamed buns. For once, she refused Jared Woods’s request. "No, we don’t have enough money. Jared, be a good boy."
Jared Woods burst into tears. "I don’t care, I want a popsicle! Ian Shaw is eating a popsicle, so I want one too! You don’t dote on me anymore, you don’t love me anymore!!"
Everyone around them turned to look. Chelsea Raines quickly put her arm around him. "Don’t make a scene, Jared. We’ll buy one after we go home, okay?"
"No! I want to eat it now!"
After saying that, Jared Woods actually started rolling around on the ground, getting his designer clothes all muddy.
Chelsea Raines’s face flushed with embarrassment. She frantically tried to pull him up, but Jared Woods wasn’t light, and he ended up pulling her down to the ground with him.
Her beloved outfit now dirty, Chelsea Raines completely lost her temper. "Jared Woods!!"
Jared Woods sobbed. "I just wanna eat it! I wanna eat it!"
His crying softened Chelsea Raines up a bit, and she could only relent. "Fine..."
Renee Jennings, who was standing nearby, said, "You can’t do that, Chelsea. If you buy a popsicle, you won’t have enough money."
After saying that, she turned her head to lecture Naomi Kenway. "Nina, you can’t indulge your child like that. You’ll spoil him rotten!"
