Chapter 59: Chapter 59: Kids Can’t Be Too Greedy

"I just got back from abroad. It’s so good to see you; I’d love to get together."

The three of them ended up at a nearby coffee shop. Thanks to the cafe’s excellent security, Jeanette Kensington’s fans were kept outside.

"Nicole, I heard you’ve been on ’Super Mom’ recently. That show is pretty good. I’ve been watching your performance on TV."

Naomi Kenway took a small sip of her coffee and glanced up at her. "I don’t need your fake sincerity. I’m fine and don’t need your concern."

’Jeanette Kensington was Jackson Kensington’s illegitimate daughter. She wore a mask of gentleness but had secretly caused me a lot of trouble behind my back.’

"Nicole, that really hurts me. No matter what, I’m still your older sister. We’re family, connected by blood." Jeanette Kensington frowned, her already delicate and pretty face looking even more pitiful.

"You’re really good at flattering yourself. The Kenway Family only has one young mistress. I’m afraid I don’t know who you are."

’If her son hadn’t been there, Naomi Kenway would have said something much nastier.’

Jeanette Kensington’s expression faltered for a moment before she turned to Ian Shaw. "Annie, Auntie hasn’t seen you in so long. Did you miss me?"

Ian Shaw could sense his mother’s dislike for the woman in front of him, so he turned his head away and ignored her.

Jeanette Kensington froze for a second.

Seeing that the crowd outside the cafe had mostly dispersed, Naomi Kenway picked up Ian Shaw with one arm and stood up.

"Caleb, you’re finally here," Jeanette Kensington suddenly called out with a smile, turning her head.

Caleb Bishop had a refined and aloof air about him. Dressed in a simple white shirt, he slowly approached. He handed her the milk tea he was holding, his cool expression warming into a smile as he looked at Jeanette. "What brings you to a coffee shop all of a sudden?"

Jeanette Kensington gave a coy, girlish smile and intimately linked her arm with his. "This milk tea is so hard to get. It must have been a pain for you to wait in line for me for so long."

"It’s fine, I didn’t wait too long." Caleb Bishop turned his head and, for a moment, didn’t recognize Naomi Kenway. "Jan, is this lady a friend of yours?"

Jeanette Kensington acted slightly surprised. "This is my sister, Naomi Kenway. You could say we met through Nicole back then. How could you not even recognize my sister?"

"Naomi Kenway?" Caleb Bishop’s brow furrowed, his expression suddenly turning awkward. "Oh... it’s you, Naomi. Long time no see." He sized her up, still finding it hard to believe. "You’ve changed a lot."

’Speaking of Caleb Bishop, Naomi Kenway’s thoughts drifted. Caleb had been her first love. Back then, he was the campus heartthrob of the art academy. Naomi had fallen for him at first sight, captivated by his handsome features. Even after getting married, she couldn’t forget him.’

’But that was all part of my old "script." Now that I’ve "awakened," I no longer have any feelings for Caleb Bishop. Besides, the man cheated on me with Jeanette Kensington. The thought of it disgusts me every time.’

Naomi Kenway gave a slight nod. "I’ll be going now."

Ian Shaw chose that moment to wrap his arms around Naomi Kenway’s neck, whining in a childish voice, "Mommy, it’s stuffy in here. Annie wants to go outside!"

"Annie, we’re leaving right now."

As he watched her slender figure recede into the distance, Caleb Bishop was momentarily lost in thought. He and Jeanette Kensington had spent most of the last few years abroad and hadn’t seen Naomi Kenway in a long time. The fiery girl from his memory who was always chasing after him had matured and settled down. She even had a son who was several years old.

"Caleb, what are you looking at?" Jeanette Kensington tugged at his sleeve, displeased. "It’s been so many years. You’re not still thinking about your first love, are you?"

"...Of course not. You’re the only one for me."

Satisfied with his answer, Jeanette Kensington said, "I hear that Ethan Shaw has a bad temper. Nicole is bound to suffer being with him. I’m the lucky one, getting to be with you."

"Let’s not talk about her. Weren’t we going to visit the new gallery I opened in the country?" Caleb Bishop said gently. "Let’s go take a look."

「The next day」

Naomi Kenway woke up bright and early.

It was the first time she was attending an event at her son’s kindergarten, and she felt both excited and nervous. She changed into a matching parent-child outfit with her son and carefully applied her makeup.

After a final spritz of perfume, Naomi Kenway studied her reflection in the full-length mirror for a long time.

’I’m representing my son today,’ she thought. ’I have to look my absolute best.’

A moment later, there was a knock on the door. Ian Shaw ran in, wearing a T-shirt and shorts. A long, fluffy tail attached to his back swayed slightly with his every step.

Naomi Kenway swept Ian Shaw into her arms. "Did my baby get dressed all by himself? You’re so clever!"

Ian Shaw looked up at Naomi Kenway’s face with wide eyes. "Mommy is so pretty! Mommy is the prettiest mommy in the whole world!"

Overjoyed by his compliments, Naomi Kenway planted a kiss on his cheek.

The full-length mirror reflected two figures, one large and one small, in adorable matching outfits. Not only did they look alike, but they also shared the same expression—a mix of cute and cool.

Naomi Kenway couldn’t resist taking a picture and posting it to her Moments and Weibo. ’My son is this cute, of course I have to show him off every single day!’

Naomi Kenway V: A sunny day for a parent-child activity~

[AHHHH SO CUTE, please wear this on the next episode!! I’m begging you!!]

[Baby Annie, why do you have a tail? Are you trying to kill this auntie with cuteness?]

[The baseball cap Annie’s wearing doesn’t really match the outfit. How about this: come stay at my place for a couple of days, and this big sister will get you a better-looking one! Guaranteed authentic!]

[The abacus beads from the comment above are bouncing off my face.]

...

Naomi Kenway was driving, with Ian Shaw sitting in the front passenger seat.

"Mommy, is Daddy coming?"

Naomi Kenway’s hands paused on the steering wheel. She wasn’t sure how to answer Annie.

Ian Shaw was a smart and sensitive child, and he seemed to sense something. "It’s okay. Annie is already very happy just getting to play games with Mommy. Books say little kids shouldn’t be too greedy!"

A pang of sorrow shot through Naomi Kenway’s heart, and she cursed Ethan Shaw for the thousandth time.

Jessica Hilton was at the kindergarten gate welcoming the parents. Her eyes lit up when she saw Naomi Kenway, and she waved. "Annie’s mother."

Then she saw Ian Shaw and praised him, "Wow, Annie, your clothes are so pretty! They even have little ducks on them. You’re such a handsome little guy today!"

Jessica Hilton usually took good care of Ian Shaw, so Annie was also very friendly toward her. "Thank you, Teacher Hilton."

Jessica Hilton glanced around but didn’t see Annie’s father. Understanding the situation, she said to Naomi Kenway, "Annie’s mother, the event hasn’t started yet. You can take Annie over to the plaza to wait. There are other children and parents there you can chat with."

Naomi Kenway nodded, and after thanking her, she led Ian Shaw over.

The plaza was full of people. Naomi Kenway led Ian Shaw to a grassy spot to sit down. Before long, a little girl with her hair in a princess-style updo walked over.
