The Villain Rising: Ascension of Arcane Trickster.-Chapter 232: Chat with The Trickster [2]
[Rael’s PoV]
"So, who is that guy? The one with the massive pupil who appears every time I try to remember my memories."
I asked without wasting any more time.
I mean, there were barely ten minutes left and I still had a lot to ask but honestly I didn’t know the name of that stalker, so I tried to explain the best I could do but Trickster, as if understanding whom I was talking about, looked at me and let out a chuckle.
"So you have already met that guy, huh?" He muttered in amusement. "That explains why your domain seemed to have bloomed earlier than it was meant to."
He touched his chin as if scanning something within me.
"He seemed to have given you quite the gift as well from how I could see your soul breaking down slowly, hahaha..."
He continued with a sly smile.
"Although I can’t tell you his true name as long as you don’t see or hear him directly, it should be fine and don’t worry, he wouldn’t try to harm you as he is merely an overseer, burdened to watch... even as his own kind bled."
Trickster’s voice turned unnaturally heavy toward the end.
Hmm... does this guy know him personally, perhaps?
I couldn’t help but wonder but then again, it was difficult to understand Trickster because even his sorrow or his happiness sometimes felt like an illusion but maybe he simply had some flaw that made him this way just like how mine did.
"Tch... if he can’t harm me, then why is he even bothering to stalk me every time I try to remember something? Can he read my mind or something?"
I asked, genuinely curious about why that bastard keep appearing? And more importantly, how the fuck did he even sense that I was thinking about those memories...?
"Hahahahahaha..."
Trickster burst into amused laughter.
"No, my dear successor. The way you are now, even I wouldn’t be able to read your mind easily but there are many ways for beings like him... and like me... to know such things."
"Take that guy, the Overseer as an example, he isn’t reading your memories, instead what he is reading is the impact they would have in the potential future."
Trickster continued as he snapped his fingers as the environment shifted instantly. We were still seated at the table but the ground beneath us had turned into a perfectly still pond, its surface glimmering with stars.
A small puppet, one that looked awfully similar to me, appeared atop the water as it took a single step forward and ripples spread outward immediately.
"See? Those ripples, that’s what the Overseer sees. You normally leave ripples just by existing, but those are ordinary to him as there are countless others who could do the same thing but when you try unlocking certain memories... the ripples become waves."
As he spoke, the landscape shifted.
The puppet stepped forward again and this time, a massive wave surged outward like a tsunami, swallowing even the puppet itself.
Trickster continued, his tone light.
"And those waves could even swallow you and although the Overseer isn’t much of a social being but he does enjoy good drama. So when you spread waves like that, he appears not to stop it or to interfere but simply to witness and record."
He tilted his head slightly.
"But alas, that fool doesn’t care that ordinary mortals could go mad from his mere presence but then again most people can’t even sense his presence and he believes that if someone can create waves of that magnitude, they must also possess the means to protect themselves."
He snapped again, and the landscape vanished as we were back at the original place, where some distance away the shadow of Trickster was in the process of reviving Winter but my mind was still on what Trickster had explained.
I understood what he said perfectly and I also understood how dangerous that stalker could be even if he didn’t have any intention to hurt me. I mean I did witness something similar when Trickster revealed himself and the citizens of the empire had started smiling... before brutally killing themselves but I still had one doubt.
So I decided to ask.
"What about the others...? There are others capable of spreading similar waves as me. Does the Overseer follow them too...?"
I was referring to the other Transmigrators.
Although their information wasn’t as complete as mine, they still remembered the end and even if I changed most of it in the game, I had preserved certain core events while just changing the bad ending Noah wrote into something better.
Which meant those Transmigrators knew who descended at the end but they thought Noah defeated him before living happily ever after.
So technically... shouldn’t the Overseer stalk them as well?
Trickster shook his head.
"That’s an interesting theory, my dear successor but even those others you speak of couldn’t create such waves no matter how much they try to alter the events."
His lips twisted further.
"Even greater gods who possessed memories of the future couldn’t do such a thing... but—"
He stopped abruptly as if his words were cut off by the world itself.
"Tch... seems I was about to say a little too much... hahahahahahaha."
Half of his face started distorting before it was replaced with chaotic red magical energy and yet he continued laughing.
I frowned.
He hadn’t finished his sentence but what he said was enough for me to understand a few things.
I had memories the gamers didn’t and those memories were creating waves or maybe... it wasn’t about knowing them in the first place, maybe it was about what I would choose to do with them.
Tch... why were things so complicated...?
Leaving those thoughts aside, I looked back at Trickster as I could feel our time running out.
So I asked the question I was most curious about.
"Are you... perhaps one of the Transmigrators?"
