Chapter 171: You’re Welcome

When she finally reached the room, she shut the door behind her and leaned against the table. Her hand automatically rested against her chest as she heaved deep breaths to calm herself down, but the more she thought about what happened in the kitchen just now, the more her heartbeat turned even faster.

It was only now did she realized what she had just done.

She actually kissed him on the cheek! Of course, it wasn’t the first time she had done something like this, but that was just to tease him. This time, she kissed his cheek while being embraced by him all over!

Ah, her heart was still beating loudly. It’s over. She had perhaps fallen in love with him already!

No no no no! She shouldn’t! Her plan was to get out of this marriage to save him in the first place! How could she let him win like this?!

No. She should run away! Yes! That’s the right thing to do at the moment!

There was indeed a trace of hesitation in her heart because she knew she couldn’t stay away from Nicholas, but what other choice did she actually have?

It was either her emotions for the man or his life. She could only choose one among those.

In any case, if she ran away, she might be able to use this opportunity to confuse the killer behind the scenes. It was clear that Rebecca used unauthorized means to locate her in the first place. Thus, if she sneaked away from everyone’s eyes and hid somewhere else, she might also be able to get away from the woman’s radar!

Yes, that’s a great idea, but the question was.... Where should she hide....?

Just as she was thinking about it, her cell phone rang in her pocket. She picked it up without even sparing the screen a single glance.

"Yes?"

"Abigail?" Owen’s enchanting voice echoed into her ears and went straight to her heart, making it thump once more. "Are you alright? Did you return?"

Abigail was stunned and shocked as she stood in her place, staring at the empty bed in front of her in a daze. She was shocked for a reason.

Why did his voice make her heart thump in her chest?!

Gosh, she wasn’t falling for another man, was she?! 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

It was too embarrassing!

Abigail shook off her thoughts and said, "I’m good.... Just returned.... But I really want to get away from here before she could kill my husband."

Owen didn’t need to be told whom his patient was talking about. Since he had already come to that conclusion, he knew what she meant by ’she.’

But Abigail still hadn’t realized the slip of her tongue and continued to blurt out emotions hidden deep in her heart as if she were talking to her friend, not her psychiatrist.

"Owen, why is Nicholas acting so strangely?! I don’t want him to show me anymore affection because I can’t afford to lose him too! I have to get away! I have to!"

"Shh, Shh." Owen spoke, "Calm down first and tell me, do you hate it when Nicholas is intimate to you?"

Abigail shook her head like a rattle drum and spoke in a low voice, slowly as if she was finally admitting to herself, "No. I love it..."

Owen pursed his lips as he felt his heart sinking, but he gripped his phone and asked, doing his duty as a doctor properly, "Then why do you want to get away from him? Only because you think he will be killed if you are around?"

"Yes... Isn’t that why I want to get away in the first place?" Abigail tilted her head. This was her reason, wasn’t it? Then why was this person asking her so many questions about it?

She was about to open her mouth and ask about it when Owen spoke once again, "I don’t think that’s the only reason." He sighed and felt like he had somehow transformed into a second male lead whose only work was to curb his own emotions for the female lead and help the two main leads get together.

He sighed. How come he fell in love with Abigail without even realizing? It had to do with the result of his previous birth, nothing else.

In any case, he was serious about his work. Thus, he wouldn’t really pursue her anymore unlike Asher. In fact, in his heart, Abigail was a hot potato right now who could end up killing anyone accidentally. For Owen, who hadn’t started loving the woman that much, still wanted to do many things in his life, for instance, becoming a better psychiatrist and winning a national award for that, even spreading his branches outside internationally.

His dream was slowly being fulfilled, and he couldn’t let just anyone steal it away from him just like that. Even though he pitied her condition, he wouldn’t go out of his hand to offer her help risking his own life knowing there was someone better than him who could protect her.

Nicholas had money and power, and he could do a better job at protecting the woman he liked. So why should he butt his head in their relationship and make trouble for himself?

Better yet, he should stay away as far as possible.

Even though this was what he had decided these hours ever since she returned to her country, his heart still felt a bit uncomfortable. He didn’t want to let her go. These mixed emotions piled up in his heart, making him purse his lips as he coughed uncomfortably.

"Ah? Doctor? Why don’t you speak? What’s the second reason?"

Owen realized just now that he had been standing in a dazed condition without speaking a single word. Then he blinked as he returned to his senses and spoke, "Nothing. I was just talking about how you actually might be feeling upon seeing your husband suddenly showing you affection. Ain’t I right, Abigail?"

Abigail was stunned after hearing those words.

Indeed. Her doctor was right....

She was indeed feeling the same...

Her face turned red as she finally realized why she wanted to run away. Thanks to her doctor, she realized her situation was right on point. She relaxed her shoulders and said, "Okay, Owen, I’ll stay here for a while. Thank you."

"You’re welcome." The corners of Owen’s lips twitched a bit. Why did he feel like he had just lifted a stone and thrashed it onto his own feet?
