As Anna was writhing in agony, Mashina was carefully taking steps.
“Phew...”
And then she exhaled deeply.
This was a tense moment. It felt completely different from the usual solo ranked games.
In solo ranked, the worst that happens is losing rank points. In a promotion match, you lose the chance to advance, and in a demotion match, you drop a rank.
Of course, she didn’t like that. Especially because Mashina had failed five times in promotion matches because of a certain villainess, and that shock caused her mental state to crumble, leading to a drop down to platinum.
It was only by barely recovering to diamond that she didn’t get stuck in the Fantasy League, and it was a close call.
And Mashina realized something: sometimes, it's better to just stay still.
But there are unavoidable fights in this world.
Whether it’s losing rank points, failing to promote, or getting demoted.
All the risks of failure were on Mashina personally, but this fight was something that would affect the entire Behemoth team.
The pressure was intense.
At the end of it, Mashina spotted her opponent from afar.
'... I’ll end this with one strike.'
Mashina gripped her dagger tightly.
Mashina had chosen the assassin character.
She had excellent mobility in Labyrinthos and could deal massive damage to a single target.
It wasn’t without weaknesses. Because her weapon was a dagger, the range was very short, and without an area-of-effect skill, it was difficult to deal with multiple enemies.
But her opponent was alone.
This was the perfect situation for an assassin.
Mashina moved cautiously.
One of the thief’s skills, <Stealth>.
It allowed her to hide her presence, and with additional traits to increase movement speed and reduce footsteps, she was ready.
There was no way her opponent would notice.
Indeed, Mashina perfectly followed her opponent’s movements from behind.
This was a win.
Thinking so, Mashina struck her dagger toward her opponent’s neck.
“The timing was too obvious.”
Thwack! In that moment, Mashina’s vision blurred.
"AH?!"
A swift counterattack from a backward kick.
Mashina was sent flying.
This was a counter Mashina hadn’t expected. Since she was unprepared, Mashina rolled several times across the ground.
But she wasn’t dead, so she tried to get up.
Thwack!
Her head was kicked back down, preventing her from rising.
“When playing games, there are things you sometimes realize. Like, oh, the enemy is probably around here. They might be coming around from behind. They could be preparing a flash ultimate from the bush. Since they’re aiming at our ADC, we should save the ultimate. Stuff like that.”
Crunch.
Laura stepped on Mashina’s stomach and said.
“It’s been a while. I’m glad I could meet you like this again.”
“...I’m not glad to meet you.”
“Oh, you’re shy. I guess that’s called tsundere, right?”
“That’s not... Ugh?!”
Before she could finish her sentence, Laura shoved her sword into Mashina’s mouth.
It was a short reunion moment.
A brief moment of joy in meeting again.
“I hope we can meet again.”
As Mashina’s vision slowly darkened, the last thing she saw was Laura’s smiling face.
Leviathan vs Behemoth: First Match, Duel Mode
Mashina’s death resulted in Aurora’s victory.
Leviathan +1pt
The Fantasy League has a total of three game modes.
First, there’s Duel Mode (1vs1). You play three matches in a best-of-three format. Winning gives you 1pt.
Next, Arcade Mode (3vs3). You play one match in a best-of-five format. Winning gives you 3pt.
Finally, Gate Attack Mode (6vs6). You play one match in a best-of-five format. Winning gives you 5pt.
“There will be five matches every day, and every team will face each other twice. In total, we will have 30 matches.”
The owner of the Leviathan team, Choi Gaho, who was the most familiar with Labyrinthos games among us, explained the rules.
“And here’s the problem: each member has a 'participation limit.' For example, Aurora can only participate in a maximum of 10 matches out of the 30 total.”
That was the rule.
The first-tier members of each team can participate a maximum of 10 times. The second-tier members can participate a maximum of 11 times. The third-tier members can participate a maximum of 12 times.
Lower tiers have different rules. The fourth to sixth-tier members must participate at least 10 times.
“Finally, the team owner can only participate in three matches in total. This 'participation limit' means that the key point of the tournament is not about wins or losses, but how to avoid letting the opponent’s ‘ace’ participate.”
Gate Attack Mode requires all six team members to participate unless the team owner is joining.
Since there will be six rounds of Gate Attack, if I participate in all of them, I will only be able to join Duel or Arcade Mode four times throughout the entire league.
The same goes for other teams’ first-tier members.
For example, if the first-tier member of Gryphon, Son Nalim, participates in the duel, and we send Sora from our team who is a sixth-tier member, even if Nalim wins, it’s not entirely beneficial.
Sora must participate at least 10 times, but we’ve effectively reduced one of the Gryphon team’s ace's participation.
“I predict that the first match for Behemoth will have second or third-tier players. So, let’s put Aurora in.”
“How do you know that?”
“Because that’s how their team owner plays. I’ve fought against them in international tournaments a few times.”
Choi Gaho analyzed the situation like this.
Results after Fantasy League’s Second Match
Updat𝒆d fr𝒐m freewebnσvel.cøm.
1st: Cerberus 10pt
2nd: Leviathan 7pt
3rd: Behemoth 4pt
4th: Gryphon 1pt
The third match is scheduled for Cerberus vs Behemoth.
The fourth match is scheduled for Gryphon vs Behemoth.
The fifth match is scheduled for Leviathan vs Gryphon.
The sixth match is scheduled for Leviathan vs Cerberus.
“Behemoth has almost three consecutive weeks of matches.”
I mumbled as I looked at the schedule. I heard that this was arranged due to issues with the Behemoth team owner’s schedule.
So, our next match is in about three weeks.
It’s quite a long gap, but there’s not much change in that time.
On days when we can all gather, we practice together, and on days when we can’t, we each do our solo streams.
Meanwhile, we were also preparing for collaborations.
I heard Kirin will be planning a broadcast with the Leviathan members soon. The idea came from Rui, and Kirin is fine-tuning the layout.
Rui’s ‘Aurora Scramble’ collaboration was probably taking shape as well.
Right now, Rui was in the middle of a collaboration.
With Anna.
On Inagikabo’s channel.
[Where am I...? Who are you...?]
[Where do you think it is?]
[...A hospital?]
[Correct. So who do you think I am?]
[Are you a doctor?]
[Yes. You were struck by lightning and brought here, do you remember?]
[Lightning...? I was struck by lightning? I don’t remember...]
They were doing that kind of broadcast.
Thanks to the dating stream, Anna and Rui became closer.
Before, Anna had been a total outcast, ◆ Nоvеlіgһt ◆ (Only on Nоvеlіgһt) but after the date, it felt like she started to open up. Recently, it seemed like Anna was sending Rui a lot of personal messages, and Rui didn’t seem to mind too much, as they occasionally did collaborations together.
Meanwhile, Anna was getting closer with Inagikabo.
Inagikabo had been hurt by Anna becoming close with Rui, so he used his secret card—TRPG broadcasting.
Apparently, ‘Cthulhu TRPG Katashiro’ had become quite popular among VTubers, and Inagikabo was the GM for Anna’s TRPG experience.
Anna recommended it to Rui, and that’s how Rui ended up joining Inagikabo’s channel for the TRPG session.
‘Actually, I gave her the nudge.’
Rui hadn’t gone to Inagikabo’s stream just because of Anna’s recommendation.
Recently, I had officially approved Rui’s ‘Aurora Scramble’ project.
But I had one condition: Inagikabo had to be included.
-"Inagikabo? Oh, you mean Laura and Sora’s junior?"
-"If Laura wants, it’s fine, but... Hmm. I’m not sure."
-"If it doesn’t work, I’ll suggest him as a judge."
Rui agreed to this for now.
However, she said she’d think about whether Inagikabo should join as a participant competing with Sora or as a judge evaluating Sora.
She was probably participating in the TRPG broadcast to get a better idea of who Inagikabo was.
And so, Rui had been quietly preparing behind the scenes.
"Am I the only one with free time right now?"
Rui was busy with her planning, Sora seemed swamped with MV preparations, and Anna had started her own collaborations.
Somehow, it felt like I was the only one with nothing to do.
Of course, I also had some announcements planned for the Fantasy League period.
Recently, a voice drama with Chell was released, and in a few weeks, I would upload the silhouette MV.
Next month, there would probably be a new outfit reveal, and in the month after that, the 3D reveal.
But for now, it didn’t seem like I needed to prepare anything immediately.
For example, the new outfit reveal was mainly about the illustrator designing the new outfit. My role seemed to be more about making sure the viewers could take beautiful screenshots.
‘Then, I guess I’ll have some free time until the next match.’
It looked that way.
The fifth and sixth matches would be held back-to-back in two weeks. Around the same time, various plans and announcements would happen.
Since I have free time now, I imagine I’ll be really busy then.
I’m confident in my stamina, so being busy doesn’t bother me, but I wonder what I should do during this downtime.
What should I do?
[Please love me.]
[Let’s pretend I didn’t hear that.]
[Please forget today, Chell-chan.]
8:00 AM.
Son Nalim woke up.
“The alarm is different now. It’s confusing.”
Son Nalim muttered to herself.
