Chapter 123: The Female Master Is Yours Tonight

The Everwake shot him a cold glance. His iridescent, glass-like eyes were slightly unfocused, but he still downed the liquor Caden Albright had poured into his bowl. The amber liquid spilled from the corner of his lips and trickled down his chin.

Though he hated Evangeline to the bone, this drink was a potent remedy for his old injuries.

Thorne’s eyes grew bloodshot, the rims turning red as the liquor trickled down from the corner of his mouth.

Dizzy and disoriented, he gulped down the liquor, swallowing mechanically. As his Adam’s apple bobbed, he felt his Beast Crystal burning with increasing intensity. His thin lips parted, releasing a hoarse whisper. "Stronger."

Nix’s pale knuckles gripped his bowl. He took a bite of the fragrant roasted meat, and as the juices burst in his mouth, he tilted his head back for a swig of liquor. A searing heat slid down his throat, and a hazy mist clouded his violet eyes.

This perfect indulgence brought a hint of satisfaction to the corners of his eyes, melting away much of his usual coldness.

He was clearly in much better shape than Thorne and The Everwake. His mind was still clear, and he paid no heed to Caden Albright’s attempts to get him to drink more. He simply followed his own rhythm, leisurely taking a bite of meat and then a sip of liquor, thoroughly enjoying himself.

Caden Albright’s gaze shifted, the reflection of the liquor flickering in his eyes. He gave Nix a casual glance before turning his full attention to Lachlan.

Because among all the males at the bamboo table, drinking bowl after bowl, he was the only one whose eyes remained utterly clear and sharp.

Evangeline’s fingertips held her cup, gently swirling the contents to create an arc of shimmering light. She took a small sip from time to time.

She suddenly sensed the direction of Caden Albright’s gaze and looked over.

Lachlan was drinking by himself, taking one unhurried sip after another. He’d drunk a great deal, but his gray-hazel eyes, like frost-covered ground, remained cold and clear. It was as if he were swallowing cool mountain spring water, not potent liquor.

Evangeline raised an eyebrow in surprise.

The liquor brewed from Spirit Rice had a kick that burned in one’s blood. For a Beastman, its effects should have been even more intense.

But Lachlan’s wrist was perfectly steady as he lifted his bowl. Even the movement of his throat as he swallowed was impeccably controlled. His long lashes cast a cool shadow over the high bridge of his nose.

No matter what he did, he was like a perennially frozen snowfield, always exuding a biting chill.

Such a stark, untainted coldness was what drew people in. It made one want to shatter his frost-like purity, to see those clear gray-hazel eyes clouded with a red mist, to drag the bright moon down into the mud.

"Have some more." Seeing that Lachlan’s bowl was empty again, Caden Albright lifted the wine jar and poured more into it. "This Spirit Rice liquor can help you advance your Star Pattern. Once you’re stronger, you’ll be able to protect Eva properly and keep her from getting hurt again."

A fine, bright arc of amber liquor filled Lachlan’s bowl once more.

Lachlan’s fingers paused for a moment. He raised his eyes and gazed at Evangeline.

A hint of softness colored his cold, refined features. "Alright," he replied.

The moment the word left his lips, he tilted his head back and drained the bowl. With a bob of his Adam’s apple, it was empty.

As he moved, the Jade Pearl in his linen-colored hair knocked together lightly, letting out a series of clear, crisp chimes.

Caden Albright paused, his gaze following the chiming sound of the Jade Pearl. ’He hardly needed to think about it. Such an exquisite item wasn’t from the Beastman Continent. Who else could have given it to him but her?’

A dark undercurrent stirred in his eyes as he turned to look at Evangeline.

She was merely sipping her drink with downcast eyes, a rosy blush spreading across her fair skin and deepening her charm. Her red lips parted and closed, exuding endless allure. Sensing his gaze, she swept back her long hair and gave him a smile that was especially captivating.

He wrenched his gaze away, his throat tightening as he swallowed hard. He took a deep breath and gulped down a mouthful of cold liquor, only then managing to shove the amorous thoughts back down, inch by inch.

The wine jar was empty. Thorne and The Everwake had collapsed onto the porch, muttering drunkenly.

Nix was leaning against the bamboo house, his violet eyes half-closed. His long, violet-hued curls cascaded around him.

While not as disheveled as the others, his breathing was deepening—a clear sign he was deeply intoxicated. The night breeze stirred his long hair, half-concealing the flush on his face. A faint fragrance drifted from him, like a weary flower closing its petals for the night.

At the table, besides Evangeline, the only two still sober were Caden Albright and Lachlan.

Evangeline tapped her fingers lightly on the bamboo table, its surface reflecting the images of the two men.

Caden Albright leaned against the bamboo table, the pad of his finger gently caressing the wine jar. The alcohol had brought a blush to his decadent features, adding to his allure.

Lachlan remained seated, straight and still, his eyes downcast. His long fingers toyed with the Jade Pearl in his hair, turning it over and over without making a sound. His snow-clear eyes betrayed no hint of intoxication.

Evangeline propped her chin on her hand, studying Lachlan with great interest. A flicker of amusement shone in her eyes.

’Looks like I misjudged him.’

She truly hadn’t expected it. Lachlan had the face of someone who couldn’t hold his liquor, yet after drinking all night, he showed no sign of being drunk. In contrast, the others, slumped over and lost in a drunken haze, seemed like beautiful specters of the mortal realm.

"It’s getting late." The blush at the corners of Caden Albright’s eyes hadn’t faded, but he was already pushing himself up from the table.

His long, silver-white hair cascaded down, as bright and pure as moonlight.

He glanced sideways at Lachlan, his lingering voice carrying a slightly drunken rasp. "Lachlan, tonight, the female master is in your hands."

Caden Albright’s gaze lingered on Evangeline for a moment before he pulled it back with restraint and turned to enter the bamboo house.

Evangeline paused, then suddenly stood up. She turned to the stunned Lachlan and said, "Wait for me a moment."

Evangeline followed Caden Albright into the bamboo house and saw him leaning over to pick up Bunny from the bamboo bed. The little cub, smelling his father’s scent, snuggled into the crook of his arm and let out a soft whimper in his sleep.

When Caden Albright turned and saw her, he didn’t seem surprised.

He stepped forward slowly, leaning in slightly. His silver hair fell over his shoulders, shimmering like flowing water.

Their breaths mingled. The moment their foreheads touched, Caden Albright let out a soft laugh. His wine-scented breath brushed past her full red lips, but his voice was still filled with a sorrowful tenderness. "Go on. We’ll say he won tonight."

Evangeline’s eyes flickered as she met Caden Albright’s amber gaze.

It was like looking into a shattered galaxy, so gentle a person could drown in them. He murmured softly, "No matter what you want to do, I’ll always be with you, Eva."

The lingering tenderness of Caden Albright’s words hung in the air between their breaths.

Evangeline’s gaze was clear. A faint ripple had stirred in her heart, but it quickly subsided into calm.

’After all, she was just a traveler passing through thousands of worlds. This was just her retirement world, and they were simply her mission targets. Everything here was nothing but a fleeting dream.’

Evangeline’s eyes crinkled at the corners, her charming voice filling the air. "The alcohol seems to be getting to you. Be careful not to get sick in the middle of the night."

A pampered, beautiful, and utterly lazy fox would never linger for anyone.

She turned, walked out of the bamboo house, and casually took Lachlan’s hand.

"Let’s go." Evangeline lightly scratched Lachlan’s palm. "Let me see this new bamboo house you’ve built."

Lachlan’s breath hitched. He followed behind Evangeline, the Jade Pearl in his hair chiming with his every step and scattering faint halos of light. In the distance, under the eaves of a newly built bamboo house, a string of Bone Bells spun gently in the light rain.

Caden Albright stood rooted to the spot, holding Bunny. The breeze lifted a few strands of his silver hair as he watched the two of them walk away. A heavy shadow fell over his features, and his eyes grew as cold as frost.

He had vaguely sensed it just now—Eva’s almost unfamiliar attitude.

’She isn’t the real Evangeline. Does that mean one day, she’ll leave?’

The thought passed through Caden Albright’s mind like a dark cloud. His eyes grew cold and grim. Glancing sideways at the others sprawled about in their drunken stupor, he silently clenched his fists.

’They had to make Eva *want* to stay.’
