Chapter 20: Mana Application 101

The sky was full of grey clouds, students covered their heads with various things from the drizzling rain. Cassian however was up all night and saw from his window the clouds gather.

So he had an umbrella, but he was not alone. Beside him were two other people, Sharron an acquaintance and classmate and Cassie, the purple haired girl who was also a part of the Student Council among the first years and their classmate.

"So, does anyone know why Professor Paige scheduled the class in the west wing instead of the east wing where all of ours are?" Cassie asked as she walked close to Cassian so as to not get wet.

"Today’s class is special, according to the Professor." Sharron replied while she also walked close to Cassian to not get wet.

’Mana application class?’ Cassian thought as the girls beside him talked about trivial stuff.

They walked into the lawn of the central wing, where the professors and the other important faculty members had offices apart from that being the third years used for their classes and stuff.

Just outside the entrance, Luna alongside Eric and Roland were standing besides the Vice-Headmaster.

"Good morning Vice-Headmaster." Sharron said as she passed him to get under the shade at the entrance.

The man looked on his left and saw Cassian and Cassie walk past him as well. "Good morning students, since you three are here, come to my office after classes with your seniors. I have some important stuff to discuss with the Student Council."

The three nodded and went inside, on the left was a classroom a bit bigger than the normal ones where the other students were.

They entered to see most of their classmates soaked because of the rain and sleeping in so they didn’t have enough time to grab an umbrella.

Professor Paige was sitting on a chair in the corner of the room, her clothes were also slightly damp.

She was an average heighted woman, with long blonde hair tied in a bun, brown eyes and she wore a simple black dress with the academy insignia on the left side of the chest.

"I know it was raining so you three can come sit, next time I won’t tolerate late arrivals." She said as she got up from the chair and stood in the middle of the raised platform.

"Today I will start Basic Mana Application. I know a lot of you know how to use spells, and some even know a few advanced spells but in this we will go over the intricate details of how spells work and how mana works." She said and a pure white colored substance materialized in her right hand.

The students were amazed by what they saw but Cassian knew what it was. It was mana in its purest and raw form.

"This thing in my hand is mana. Yes, mana. In its purest and raw form. Now watch closely as I try to cast a spell."

The mana ball in her hand flickered as she quietly chanted a spell, the ball moved and it went from yellow to orange and took the shape of a fireball.

"You all saw how it changed, right? So how did it change form with a chant? Anyone?" She said and closed her fist as the fireball sizzled and died down.

Cassie raised her hand from the end of the classroom to which Cassian, Sharron and everyone else looked at her because he hasn’t said much in the time they’ve been at the academy.

"Don’t look at her like that, it’s good she’s trying to answer the question. Go ahead, Cassie dear."

"The chant is the main reason for mana to change shape and form. When you say a chant, the specific words with the intention and the caster channeling mana to where the spell will manifest is what causes the spell to be formed." Cassie said and a clap was received by the Professor.

"Excellent answer Cassie, not only that there are some people capable of using spells without chants. They think of the spell and their mana nature is different in the sense that it picks on the signals sent by the brain when they think of a spell."

Professor Paige then extended her hand towards the students and closed her eyes, a sudden gust of wind shot out of her hand and towards the students, scattering pages and other things off of the tables.

She didn’t chant this time, only thought of the spell and she used it. Cassian only knew about chant less casting because the original Cassian was a monster and an actual prodigy unlike himself.

The class ended with some theory and examples of spells, both basic and advanced. In the upcoming week she would demonstrate a high tier advanced spell which needs a controlled environment to be used. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

By the time the trio got out of the building the rain had subsided, and the sun was out and so was a rainbow due to it.

Before Cassian could meet with Detective Crowe, he had one final stop and that was the Vice-Headmaster’s office.

When they got there, the seniors stood outside as if they were waiting for them.

"Brother, were we late?" Sharron asked Eric but before he could reply Roland did.

"No no, we just got here like a minute ago." Luna, who was pacing around, stopped and looked at him as if he said something wrong.

"Don’t lie to them, Roland. We’ve been here for about six minutes now, don’t worry about being late either." Luna replied and opened the door to the office.

Eric, Roland and the trio followed behind.

The office was much like the office of Octavia, the Headmaster. The only difference was that it had an extra section on the right full of ancient magic tomes and different books on magic.

Like father like son, I guess. Cassian thought as he was reminded of The Imperial Historical Audit Office.

"Welcome to my office, take a seat all of you." Alister replied as they sat down in front of him.

He raised his hands in front of his mouth and looked at them without the smile he had earlier.

"I will get straight to the point, win the upcoming Viremont Duel Tournament."
