Chapter 429: His insecurities

The world snapped back into place with a loud energy crack, followed by a heavy silence.

They landed hard and they stumbled into wet sand as the blinding faded in a dim swirl of pale light.

The cold hit them instantly, a sharp wave of the salty beach air. The sky above was dark; it was meant to be a full moon, but clouds hanging low were hiding the moon and stars.

Waves crashed against the shore mixed with the whistling sounds of the sea breeze. Where were they? That was the question of everyone who just teleported her

"Your highness!" They heard Evelyn gasping, and she started to run in a particular direction. Everyone glanced in the direction and was stunned to see Abrielle holding onto Cedric with a strange man beside them that looked ethereal, and in the blink of an eye, he disappeared.

.....he might die. Yuki’s last words snapped Abrielle to reality. She had a lot of questions to ask without a doubt, but had to swallow everything down the back of her throat. Who was Yuki? Why was he so powerful that he easily locked out Cedric? She knew how powerful Cedric was without a doubt.

Her throat felt dry and a cough rang.

Abrielle coughed, tasting ash and salt in her throat. She blinked as the wind whipped her hair into her face, her boots already sinking into the cold, damp ground.

The beach stretched wide and beautiful even in the dark night. White sand with jagged rocks littered around like bones. A dense forest loomed not far behind them, its trees tall and black against the night, as the wind from the sea blew towards the trees.

She was still holding onto Cedric, who seemed unconscious. Her eyes examined his injury. She could see how blood stained his clothes in several places and the burnt marks on his arm. Although the burns were healing the blade marks were still bleeding.

.

"Cedric!" Her voice cut through the chaos, sharp with fear. She tapped him, scared of his condition.

His face was pale under a dim flame, and she managed to conjure to assess his condition. His breathing was ragged, jaw clenched tight.

"I’m fine," he muttered, though his voice was rough with pain. He managed to sit up, but every slight movement made the wounds bleed faster.

"You’re not," Abrielle snapped, kneeling beside him, hands trembling. "Why isn’t it healing?" She asked him. Cedric’s head was still muddled. During the fight, he kind of snapped, but his mind was a bit clearer now.

One thing he remembered for sure was the cat turning into a man. "Your highness," Evelyn screamed, and Cedric quickly hugged Abrielle, hiding his face on her bosom. She was stunned by his behaviour. "Why are you hiding?" She asked him, her eyes looking towards the rest who were running in their direction.

Everyone was here, and even more, their horses were all here except for Cedric’s horse Midnight, which was killed during the battle.

"I can’t let them see my face," he admitted with genuine fear. What trauma had he gone through that made him terrified of letting anyone see his full face?

"They are your closest allies who have risked their lives for you. Don’t you think they deserve to see what their master looks like, and besides, your face is beautiful." Abrielle explained. She described his face as beautiful because that was what it was. Cedric did have masculine charms even with his face, but the curves and edges of his face were far too gorgeous to be called handsome; he was beautiful.

The only man she has seen with his level of beauty was unexpectedly Yuki. His hold tightened around her waist. The other stopped a few feet away on Abrielle’s signal once they saw the position the couple was in.

"I wanted it to be something just between us. I don’t think I am ready." He muttered. Abrielle could sense fear in his voice. This was the first time she had seen someone insecure because the person was too good-looking. Her fingers, which were weaving into his hair, stopped.

She raised his face, her fingers tracing the edges. The others were behind Cedric’s back, so they didn’t see his face, although secretly they were all curious about what he looked like. "One day you will have to leave your shell." She says, looking straight into his golden eyes, which looked scared.

The tension had eased but the troubles were just starting. She tore out the sleeve of her gown and tied it over his nose. It served as a mask. "This is better now. Can you stand up?" She asked, giving Cedric a hand. The pain was excruciating, Cedric gritted his teeth and managed to stand up.

The other finally came closer on Abrielle’s signals. "You are injured." Giselle gasped. It had been ages since she had seen him this injured. It reminded her of the time he was living in the harem. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

"I am fine, we have to move. There isn’t a moment to spare." Cedric said that his hand was holding his bleeding stomach while assessing their situation.

"We should wrap your wounds first." Elias voiced out disturbed. It was the first time he had seen Cedric this injured. Cedric paused. No one had ever attended to his wounds, not even Giselle, who technically raised him for some years. Cedric realised from a young age that he could heal on his own, and whenever he got injured, he hid until all the marks were gone.

Abrielle’s eyes locked with his, and she kind of understood his fear. Cedric tensed, She wondered how many secrets he was hiding from them.. "At least let’s get it wrapped up." Cedric sighed. "You will have to assist me." He said to Abrielle. Giselle approached and gave Abrielle her bag. "It contains some necessary items."

"I will take care of the wound. I fear we have to start moving once we are done." She explained. They seemed confused until Cedric spoke.

"We are still in Vesper although far from the Duke’s estate. Until we cross the border we are not safe. They can track us. " His words snapped them to reality. They could not rest, especially now that the entire Dacronia was dangerous to Cedric.

Blackthorn was too far and too dangerous for them to go. Risking exposing the location as eyes were on Cedric now.

"Let’s get closer to the forest." He instructed. They all got off the beach and waited trying to catch their breaths while Abrielle attended to wounds.
