The Villianess story: A 100 ways to kill your husband-Chapter 438: Find your happiness
Chapter 438: Find your happiness
They arrived at the castle Aurelius’ home which had been given to him on his 16th birthday when he was officially appointed crown prince.
From the high walls outside that nearly touched the sky, the castle felt more like a fortress than a home. Abrielle thought about what Cedric had said. He didn’t go into much detail, but she understood the hints.
Under normal conditions, Cedric should have been welcomed at the palace and given accommodations there. Instead, he was brought to Aurelius’ castle, an impenetrable fortress that was almost impossible to break into and out of being held inside like a prisoner. It would be hard to escape.
Although Cedric could not be held by walls because he could teleport her out, what about their allies who had come all the way from Dacronia? Aurelius didn’t know about Cedric’s ability, but having the rest here could serve as leverage against him.
It was a carefully organized plan to keep Cedric in check. The carriage stopped, and they stepped out. Cedric gave her his hand and acted like he normally did. There was nothing on his face that gave him away in the slightest.
Inside, the tall walls were a stark contrast to the exterior. Abrielle’s breath hitched; she had never seen anything so beautiful and breathtaking. The courtyard was carefully arranged, and Abrielle could sense the tingling magic in the air that sustained everything.
Two other carriages followed after them, carrying Evelyn and the rest. Just as Cedric suspected, Aurelius was keeping them all here. After they stepped out, a man approached, bowing slightly to acknowledge their presence.
"Well, Your Highness. Please follow me. Let me lead you to your room while the maids attend to your friends," he said politely. He spoke Dacronian, not the Heliosian language. His accent was a bit difficult to understand.
"We are in your care, then," Cedric replied in a Heliosian accent. His language skills were impeccable. The man was impressed and quickly switched to his native tongue, since the guests understood him.
"This way, please." They were separated from the rest and taken to another wing altogether. Abrielle’s eyes darted around, noting every detail about the castle. It was different from Cedric’s—more grand in decoration. She thought Cedric’s home was luxurious, but this castle left her stunned.
Everything was arranged perfectly, and Aurelius’ and Cedric’s statuses were so obvious. One was the forsaken first prince, while the other was the powerful crown prince. Heliosa was richer than Dacronia, though only by a small margin.
Tall portraits of the prince stood on almost every corner of the house. There were no portraits of other family members it made her wonder if he had a similar situation to Cedric.
"Is the crown prince an only child?" Abrielle asked, curious about their host. They stopped in front of a painting of Aurelius. He seemed very young in the painting, a teenage boy of around sixteen.
"The crown prince indeed grew up as an only child. His mother passed on when he was four, and she was pregnant at the time," the host explained. Then they continued walking until they arrived at their destination.
The door was pushed open, and they stepped into a carefully decorated room. It was about the same size as Abrielle’s room at the seaside castle. A bath had already been prepared.
"I know you had a long journey. Maids will be at the door if you need anything, Your Highnesses," the host said, bowing once more before leaving.
"Let us know when the crown prince returns. He is meant to see us," Cedric instructed.
"I will inform you when Prince Aurelius returns." The door closed, and they were alone. Without a word, Cedric walked up to the bed and sat down, then started taking off his clothes.
Abrielle approached him. "Let me help you," she offered, reaching out for his shirt. Cedric stopped her.
"I can handle this much. I am not completely handicapped, Abrielle. You should get undressed. The journey was more taxing on you," Cedric said, his lips pressed into a thin line.
He didn’t want to be harsh with her. It’s just that he felt like he was a burden. She was the only one who had taken care of him during the journey. It had been taxing on him.
Abrielle nodded. "I understand," she replied, then moved to another corner to get out of her clothes. They were simple outfits and didn’t require any help. She felt a slight squeeze in her chest from his earlier rejection, but she shrugged it off.
It was hard for someone as strong as Cedric to rely on others. His ego was bruised, but she wasn’t just anyone; she was his wife.
"I don’t see you as a burden, Cedric," she said, but got no reply. By the time she was done undressing, Cedric was already in the tub.
He looked like he was relaxed, as if he were asleep, but she knew he had a sleeping disorder that truly bothered him. It hurt to stand by and watch him slowly fall apart while he desperately tried to hide his pain. Her hands clenched.
Cedric truly had no idea she could feel his discomfort and worry, as if there was an invisible bond between them. His desperate efforts, when he lied about his condition, gave her a bittersweet feeling.
She joined him in the large tub, staying on the opposite side. His entire body was immersed in the soothing water. His eyes fluttered open once she got in.
"Come here," he beckoned to her.
"Is that fine? I don’t think you should be in the water with your injuries. I don’t want to cause you more discomfort," she said. Her gaze was soft and tender. Her concern was warming, but it also left a bitter feeling in his heart, knowing he had to be close to death to gain her sympathy.
"It will be fine. I just want to hold you," he replied.
Abrielle sighed, then moved toward his side, sitting between his legs. Cedric’s arms wrapped around her waist, and he pulled her in before resting on her shoulder. He didn’t feel as warm as she remembered he was slowly getting colder. She let him hold her while she silently stared at the wall.
"If I ever die, Abrielle, I want you to find happiness. The kind you never found with me," Cedric murmured, his body slowly relaxing. She felt his breath go even, as if he had fallen asleep.
