Chapter 102 - The Tour

Zane had been in dangerous situations before. He'd fought monsters, dodged assassins, even survived a Thornhide Beast.

But this?

This was different.

Valerie had him by the arm like it was hers by right, and she practically glowed as they walked through the pristine halls of Lumina Academy. Her long, flowing purple hair shimmered under the sunlight spilling through the stained-glass windows, the ends glowing faintly with a magical hue. Her uniform had slight tweaks—silver trims and a short cape that gave her an air of nobility and confidence.

"And here," she said, gesturing grandly, "is the Zenith Library. Home to over ten thousand spell tomes, most of which you'd probably never understand."

Zane arched an eyebrow. "Was that shade?"

Valerie grinned. "Just stating facts."

Nyx chuckled in his mind. "She's your type. Admit it."

"She's trouble," Zane shot back mentally. "I have enough trouble as it is."

"Zane?" Valerie tilted her head. "You spaced out. Are you always this dreamy?"

"I—what? No. I mean—what are you even saying?"

Valerie giggled and tugged him along again. "Relax. I'm just messing with you. Or am I?" She gave him a wink.

The academy grounds were massive. Floating bridges connected buildings, and mana-infused trees glowed gently as they walked past. A few Lumina students gave Zane curious glances—mostly the girls—and Valerie didn't miss a single one.

She tugged him closer.

"You're kind of famous now, you know. After saving me at the portal," she said, her voice softening. "That moment... stuck with me."

Zane glanced at her, the teasing tone gone. "I didn't even do much."

"You did enough," she whispered.

They arrived at a tall tower. "This is the Combat Arena," she said, switching back to her usual tone. "You'll probably be dragged here soon. Hopefully not against me—though, I wouldn't mind pinning you down."

Zane flushed. "Can you not say stuff like that so casually?!"

Valerie laughed, her violet eyes twinkling with amusement.
