Chapter 339 - A surprise at the end of the weekend 5

(Ryoto's pov)

My everything hurts, but a smile couldn't leave my face even as I was hanging above the ground as Gid's tail was holding me up. It wasn't the most pain I ever felt during a fight as a lot of bleeding was surface level, and thanks to Jormungand's blood, my skin was regenerating, although I still felt the effects of blood loss. It was still minimal at the moment. The punches I received to the body were a much bigger problem. That's where the most damage I got came from.

"What can I say except that I am pleasantly surprised. At this rate, maybe in a few decades, when I'm too old to wipe my own ass, you'll give me a challenge."

Even now, when he seemingly won, he feels the need to mock me. I can't even blame the guy since I would do the same, but I wanted to test myself on him.

"Say that to me when you break my strongest technique." I internally cringed as I said the most cliché line possible.

That caught Gid's attention.

"So you were still holding back after everything we went through. I would call you bold or stupid since you like to dance on the edge between these two but I feel like this time you had a reason."

I slowly reverted back to my human form as I was still being held up.

"And you would be correct. I never managed to activate it in a fight. Either there wasn't a need, or my opponent wouldn't allow me to fully activate it." My smile widened. "But you would. You want a challenge, and it can give it to you."

Gid threw me to the ground, which was mighty disrespectful, I might add, but I didn't focus on it. I just wanted to stand up. Lying on the ground is pissing me off for no particular reason.

"You know. I know you are playing me, but I'll allow it. Hurry up, boy. I don't have a whole day."

I stood up as I summoned Gyaku Hanshou. It was time to use her Bankai.

"In the depth of darkness, I invoke the mirror of fate.

Let your power reflect and shatter upon itself.

As your strength meets its mirror, may it be turned against you.

And every strike you cast returns to you in inverted might.

Awaken,

Bankai, Kanzen Gyaku In'ei!" (Complete Reverse Shadow)

As I was using the incantation a second voice could be heard talking at the same time. A girl's voice which belonged to Gyaku.

I pulled my Reiatsu very carefully. My Bankai was dangerous not only to my enemies but also to myself if I was not careful enough. That was one of the reasons I haven't used it against Ywhach, even though I thought it would be helpful. The Quincy King would kill me before I released it, or if I activated it, then he had enough power to overpower my Bankai's ability. Right now, though, I have all the time I need to prepare myself.

The shadowy fog started coming out of under my feet, and soon it reached Gid, but it didn't stop there. It was going further and further until it finally had enough. When it stopped, equally black walls rose up, but it didn't end at it. The ceiling was also created, but curiously, it didn't become any darker. That was a strange phenomenon, but who questions the logic of Bankai in this day and age anyway?

Not me.

From behind me, the fog started rising, but unlike the walls of pure darkness, this time, it was creating a round shape. Then, like water, it washed off whatever it was under, revealing a beautiful mirror decorated with many pieces of jewelry and rare gemstones.

At the same time, the same fog was going up my hands and arms until it stopped a bit above my elbows. The same thing was happening to my legs, and it also stopped above my knees.

The shadow came off me, revealing bloody red veins that seemed to pulsate and glow. My hands were also restrained by some kind of metal gauntlets that held my hands together in front of me and legs were cuffed together.

Gid looked around and then re-focused on me.

"So, that's it? You made a big black room and a big mirror and cuffed yourself. All your talk just for that." He narrowed his eyes at me dangerously. "I don't like feeling disappointed."

"Then I must apologize. Thankfully, I know someone who won't be as disappointed as me."

I sidestepped so Gid could see his own reflection.

"I won't deny that I never disappointed myself, but my own reflection isn't enough to satisfy me."

I would ask if his wife would say the same thing, but I stopped myself. Not because I'm scared, but it's the first time I released Gyaku's Bankai against an opponent, and I'm not going to ruin her moment with my stupid jokes, even if I think they are not stupid.

I didn't need to say anything as Gid's reflection started moving on its own and it was approaching us until it touched the mirror from the other side. Its touch created ripples on the surface. It seemed that he couldn't go through, but then it used more force, and his hand escaped the mirror, but it didn't look the same as it did when it was on the other side. Its arm became shadowy, just like the fog that created this whole space. It didn't stop there. He walked out until his whole body escaped the reverse side.

Now, next to me stood Shadow Gid, and my visible veins glowed even stronger.

I couldn't stop but grin at the dumbfounded expression that the real Gid showed.

"Still disappointed?"

Gid couldn't answer as his Shadow self rushed at him and punched him, sending him flying towards the wall. The wall absorbed the impact, which was visible thanks to the ripples.

I just want to mention that this room isn't indestructible. With enough power, my Bankai will deactivate, but that threshold is higher than one would think. Gid is definitely capable of going above that threshold, but he won't. I know that because he wants to have a good fight, and as long as he gets it, he won't throw a tantrum.

The better question is, how long can I keep that up?

I looked down at my arms covered in veins as they glowed and throbbed menacingly.

(Rin's pov)

It's amazing to think that he used this Bankai. The activation alone is a herculean task, and training with it is challenging, if not in the inner world. The first time Ryoto released Kanzen Gyaku In'ei, he was forced to fight his shadow reflection on his own for three days straight before he ran out of Reiatsu.

The monitor wasn't showing anything at the moment, but I knew how fast it could turn dangerous.

Mikado-sensei tried to fix her machine, but it wouldn't help with anything since it was not broken.

I, of course, notified her of it and explained that all we can do right now is wait.

I really hate to wait. Every time I waited for Ryoto to come back, he returned injured and almost dead.

I absentmindedly rubbed the ring on my finger as I once again waited for his return.
