The Web of Knightspur-Chapter 213 - 211
The castle was filled with anxiety as the heir was missing.
"Mother, please do not worry, nothing will happen to Arlo." Duchess Macy said as she looked at her mother, the Queen who was anxiously pacing up and down the hall. It was clear that something was bothering her. But what?
"I cannot help it." The queen said with a trembling voice. "You don’t understand. I am afraid something might happen to the heir."
Duchess Macy knew that her mother was worried about Prince Arlo. She was ,but the anxiety and fear that the Queen had on her face was overbearing.
The Queen ignored Duchess Macy’s thoughts as she walked towards the huge window. Her eyes looked off to an unknown distance. She knew that Duke Felix had gone out to search for Prince Arlo. She was confident that he would be able to find her son. But there was still something niggling at the back of her mind.
’Why would someone from the Empire attack them? It doesn’t make sense. They had even helped us to seize the throne... so why turn on them now?’ The Queen could not understand. There was even a little doubt in her heart. Will the Emperor accept her husband’s words? Will they punish the Duke who had done all this?
’I should never have accepted the offer from the Empire. And why would the King think that words will help bring my son back? Nothing will help to bring him back. Our last hope is Duke Felix.’
The Queen stood there deeply engrossed in her own thoughts as she bit her lips. She had a lot of thoughts but she still tried to not think negatively about anything. There was no need to think that way. What could she do?
The Queen’s eyes narrowed as she saw a group of people riding their way on horses. An unknown fear spread through her heart as she swallowed hard. She knew that something was about to happen. Something unusual. Something bad.
But the Queen soon realized that the man riding at the front was Duke Felix. The Queen’s heart that was shaking settled down as she shook her head. Her heartbeats slowed but they soon quickened again as she saw the red stains on him.
"Blood..." The Queen murmured as she took a step back. Her hands trying to find something to hold onto in fear that she might collapse.
’Why does he have blood on his body? Did something happen?’ The Queen’s mind was filled with questions as her eyes blurred. The Queen did not know when it happened, but her eyes were burning as tears rolled down her cheeks.
"Mother?" Duchess Macy sensed the abnormalities in her mother’s behavior as she walked toward her. Soon her arms were held tightly as if her mother was holding onto her for her dear life. "What’s wrong?"
Duchess Macy panicked. She had always seen her mother being strong but at this time, her mother was crying as if she had lost her soul.
"Mother... What is happening? Tell me.." The panicked voice of Duchess Macy roamed the room as the Queen was not in her senses. She did not know what to do anymore as her eyes looked to the side, towards the window.
’Was he attacked? Did something happen to Arlo?’ The Queen’s mind was filled with questions as she blinked her eyes. She could feel her gaze blurring from her tears, but she did not want to lose her composure just yet. She wanted to stand in front of Duke Felix and understand what was happening.
—
Duke Felix walked into the castle as she looked at the people behind him. "You know what to do. Kill everyone who is not with us."
As soon as those orders were given, the soldiers rushed forward to obey the Duke’s words.
Duke Felix did not waste any time as he walked toward the study. The study where the King used to sit. A smirk played on his face as he saw the two guards standing on guard near the door. He knew these people. They were people who he had recruited to keep an eye on the King.
"Open the door." Duke Felix smiled as he looked straight ahead.
As the doors were opened slowly, he could see the pair of mother and daughter holding onto each other. But as soon as their eyes laid on him, they had different expressions.
Duke Felix wanted to laugh but he maintained his stiff expression. He knew that he could not kill his newly wedded wife. After all, she was the one who would make him King.
Duke Felix would see the worry in her eyes. Although she did not say anything, it was clear that she wanted to know if he was hurt.
Duke Felix ignored her as his eyes fixed on the Queen who looked at him with wide eyes. He could almost see the many questions playing on her mind as she blinked her eyes from time to time.
The Queen felt her body shiver. Once her eyes laid on Duke Felix, she did not know what came over her but her body froze. The sense of imagining things and seeing them in reality was different. The impact that Duke’s blooded clothes had on her was scary.
"What is this?" The Queen straightened her body as she removed Duchess Macy’s hand from her. She walked toward the Duke as she stood in front of him. Many questions lingered in her eyes but she did not ask any.
"Where is my son?" The question was something haunting her. Nothing else mattered to her. All she wanted to know was about her son. "WHERE IS HE?"
The Queen’s voice trembled as she shouted. Seeing that the man standing in front of her was not showing any emotions was making her imagine worse situations. "YOU WENT TO SEARCH FOR HIM, BUT THIS IS HOW YOU COME BACK? WHERE IS HE?"
Duke Felix did not reply as he looked down. He could see a desperate mother. Or was she one? The duke could not understand what the Queen was feeling now. Was she a helpless mother or a fearful Queen?
Duke Felix shook his head as if answering the Queen. He could see her take a few steps back before she collapsed to the ground. "He has to be alive. Nothing must happen to him."
The Queen murmured and spoke to herself as though she had gone crazy, but no one stopped her. Duke Felix looked at his wife who stood in her original position like a statue. She looked lost.
Duke Felix ignored the Queen as he walked toward Duchess Macy. His touch was soft as he stroked her cheeks. It was a light touch but soon the touch turned into a hold.
"Arrest the Queen and keep her in prison. I will come down and meet her soon." Duke Felix’s words reverberated in the room, and for a second everything was quiet.
Duchess Macy’s eyes widened in shock as she wanted to turn and look at her mother, but she could not. Duke Felix’s hold was preventing her from moving her head.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?"
"DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHO I AM?"
"I AM THE ONE WHOSE ORDER YOU SHOULD BE LISTENING TO!"
"FELIX? WHAT IS THIS?"
"FELIX!!!!"
The Queen shouted at the top of her lungs but no one paid any heed to her. Duchess Macy was in such shock that she did not even know how to react until her mother was already taken away from her side.
But once the realization struck, Macy looked at the man who was staring at her as if observing her. "Why?"
Duchess Macy managed to say as tears welled up in her eyes. She did not know what else to ask. The mother she admired and cared for was imprisoned and the man she loved was the one who gave the order. What was happening?
"Because I want to protect you." Duke Felix did not waste any time as he pulled his wife into his arms, burying her face into his chest.
Duchess Macy was filled with many questions as she blinked her eyes. She could smell a strong smell of blood but something did not feel right.
"The Queen is trying to kill you." The Duke’s words were filling the room.
Duchess Macy was silent but her body stiffened. Her mind was blank. "I never wanted to tell you this, but I think it cannot be helped. I had to make a choice and I did. Now you have to make your choice."
Duchess Macy looked up as she swallowed hard. She could see his eyes darkened as she bit her lips nervously, "Make a choice?"
Duke Felix looked into Duchess Macy’s eyes as if he was trying to decide whether to say the words or not. "Tell me, Felix, you are making me worry. What choice do I have to make?"
Duke Felix’s eyes softened as he patted her head and pulled her closer into his chest. Duchess Macy could sense that something was bothering him. Something was causing him to be fearful and desperate.
Duke Felix combed his fingers through her hair as he took a deep breath. He had to get his wife on his side if he wanted to take the next steps in his plan. The plan was only a step away, and he only needed to execute it.
"The choice between your husband or mother..."
