The Web of Knightspur-Chapter 225 - 223
Duchess Macy sat in a daze as she gazed absentmindedly at her own reflection in the mirror.
It has only been a few days since she got married but there were already so many things that have changed. She only got to be a duchess for a short time but she had yet to set her feet in Duke Felix’s mansion as his official wife. The day she got married was so wild. Who would have thought that she would be attacked and Duke Felix had to rescue her, causing him to be injured in the process. The tragedy of losing her whole family due to the greed of her mother was horrifying.
"I can’t possibly be a duchess now that I am the Queen," Princess Eleanor sighed as her eyes narrowed. Her reflection was a little different. Her face was still the same, but she could see some dark circles showing under her eyes. Her face was pale as she blinked nervously.
The maids were all working as some of them rearranged her clothes while others arranged her hair. Some of them were putting on her jewelry as some walked around in the background. She could see sparkling items coming her way.
"Queen...." It was a small voice, making everyone stop as Queen Macy turned around and looked at the source of the voice.
Queen Macy got up from the chair and she walked towards the man who was standing in front of her. "Felix."
King Felix waved his hand, indicating for the unrelated people to leave the room, giving them some privacy. "My Queen."
King Felix held onto Queen Macy’s hand as he smiled gently. His eyes were filled with many emotions, but he hid them well as he led his wife towards the chair she was first sitting at.
Queen Macy did not show any emotions as she bit down on her lips. She was a little confused as she closed her eyes in irritation. Many emotions were churning up a storm within her, but she soon closed her eyes as she took in a few deep breaths.
King Felix was looking into her eyes through the reflection in the mirror as she touched her head and his lips curled up. The smile had many meanings in them, but he shook his head. King Felix walked towards the side as he picked up a crown that was placed on the table. His eyes sharpened as he walked towards his wife.
Queen Macy was silent as she watched him through the mirror. She could feel her heart beating faster as she nibbled on her lips. Looking at her reflection, she was now looking more like a proper Queen.
Queen Macy smiled as she blinked nervously. She was silent for a few seconds before her eyes dimmed. It was the same crown her mother used to wear on her head.
"Don’t cry, Macy." King Felix comforted as he looked straight into her eyes through the reflection. "I know how you are feeling."
It was then that Macy realized that she was crying. Was it because she missed her family a lot? Or was it because she felt bad for her mother?
"It is difficult to be in this position Macy. You know it. We had to sacrifice a lot of people for this, so we have to be mindful of what we do." King Felix said. "Today we will push the past mistakes behind us and we will move ahead."
Queen Macy nodded her head. She understood what her husband was getting at. Being the Queen was never easy. It requires hard work and a lot of fight. Many lives were lost in the process and people had to suffer a lot too.
’Many families who opposed us were killed. They wanted to bring Princess Eleanor back to the Kingdom and make her the Queen. Maybe because they wanted their own sons to marry her and sit on the throne of the King. How could I let that happen?’ Queen Macy thought as she closed her eyes. Her hands formed fists at her sides as she bit the insides of her cheek. ’They will never succeed. After all, the Princess will never be able to return to the Kingdom again and the family who supports her will be destroyed soon.’
Queen Macy stood up as she looked at her husband with a slightly wet gaze. "The people..."
"Everyone has been taken care of." King Felix pulled his wife into his arms. "I will never let anyone harm you. You are my family, Macy and nothing can come between the happiness of my family."
Queen Macy looked happy as she nodded her head in her husband’s arms, completely unaware that the man she loved was looking at their reflection in the mirror with an evil smirk.
’I cannot tell you how many people I have sacrificed to get to this position.’ King Felix thought as he saw his wife hiding in his arms. He had conspired and killed. He did not even think twice before he backstabbed his closest friends without much thought. ’How can I let go of such a good opportunity so easily?’
’That is the reason I did not even care if people were opposed to the idea of me taking the throne. With the power of the family background, it was sorted out easily. As you, my dear wife, are the only hope of the Kingdom. The only one with Royal blood in the Kingdom who can succeed the throne. And I, as her husband, will be the King. How can I let people question that? And even if people do question it, they have no choice but to be silent.’
King Felix ran his hand over his wife’s hair. "We have our coronation ceremony. We cannot let the people wait for us."
Queen Macy nodded her head as she rubbed her eyes while taking a step back.
"Will Eleanor know about this?" Queen Macy’s voice was soft, but there was fear in her eyes. King Felix nodded his head.
"Yes, she will find out. But by the time she receives the news, it will be a few days after everything is over. And even if she decides to come back, no one will be able to question you, my Queen. We have taken the reins in our hands and nothing can change it."
"But what if the people support..." Queen Macy whispered her doubts, but she soon silenced her words as she took a deep breath, "Are they taken care of?"
King Felix laughed. "You have seen me coming back with blood on my clothes for a few days now. What does my wife think?" King Felix asked. He could see Queen Macy shivering at his words as he shook his head. He knew that until the time he established himself as the King of the Angevin Kingdom, he still needed his wife’s support. But once he has stabilized his power and has gained the trust of the people, he could dispose of Macy’s feelings. But now was still not the time for that.
"I can not see people questioning you." King Felix’s voice turned low, "You are my wife. The person I love and if anyone shows any disregard, then I have to take a stand and make sure that everyone understands what it means to disrespect my wife. A lesson for life."
Queen Macy found her strength when she heard those words. For a brief second, she felt her heart dropping seeing the evilness in the eyes of the man she loved. After all, she had fallen for his kind and loving nature. He was a man who could not see any bad things happening around him, yet for a second there, she could not see that man in him.
But listening to her husband’s words, Queen Macy was happy and contented. She was happy that Felix loved her so much that he decided to silence the people who were disrespectful to her. Was it cruel? Yes, it was. But in Queen Macy’s mind, it showed how much her husband loves her. He did not love anyone else, but her. He did not even entertain the idea of calling his childhood friend, Princess Eleanor back from the Roulux Empire to witness their coronation. In fact, he handled the people himself who were in favor of calling Princess Eleanor back.
"I know." Queen Macy smiled, "You love me the most and cannot see anyone mistreating me."
Tears started flowing down her cheeks as she continued, "I do not know what I have done in my life that made me so much loved by you. Maybe the universe understood my true feelings and decided to bring you to me."
"Yes, it is fate." King Felix said. ’A fate that I created.’
He did not say those last words but his thoughts were focused on this. All he wanted at that moment was to walk into the throne room with his wife and sit on the throne with his crown just the way he had always imagined.
King Felix smiled as the image played in his mind. The happiness was evident as he took a deep breath. ’I wish you were here to see your best friend sitting on the throne, Eleanor. But no matter. Soon you will be the Crown Princess. Who knows with a man like the Crown Prince who cannot be loyal to anyone, how long could you handle it? I wish you to realize that people other than your brother can also take the throne. People like me.’
