The Werewolf King's Bride-Chapter 534: Did She Leave A Mark?
(From Blue’s Perspective)
Knight Malek was quite tall, broad-shouldered, bronze-skinned, chocolate eyed, and handsome. But it was not the same man. Now that I looked at the man in front of me, I felt like the man I had seen with Iris was a lot shorter than him. Maybe I was right when I said that the man might be of normal height. At least, normal in my world.
The men and women were pretty tall in this world, most of them, at least.
I shook my head at Dem.
"You can go now," Dem said.
He gave a nod but looked a little confused. I gave him a reassuring smile. It was a little hard for some reason.
Before, I used to smile at others quite easily. But these days, if it was a little hard. It was kind of like part of me did not even bother to try.
’That part of me,’ my subconsciousness reminded me.
It was there, somewhere inside me. It was waiting. And it was getting impatient.
"So, not him," Dem muttered.
"Try to remember, honey. I know I can’t. But I am quite certain that we have seen that man, both of us. We were together at that time," I said. "You can remember faces better."
"I will try to remember," he said. "Now, my love, I think you should focus on our poor son. He is literally trying to suck your nipple over your dress."
That night, while Doctor Dimitri checked Dem again, I wrote a letter to Iris. I wrote a normal letter to cancel our planned meet-up two days later. I needed to compose my thoughts before meeting her again.
Dear Iris,
Hope you are well. I stopped by your place today on my way and unfortunately, you were not there. The duke said you went to meet Lady Pamela, some kind of relative of yours.

I could not stay for too long. As I mentioned in my previous letter, I was to meet Demetrius’s knight Abel. I went to his place after that. He is well. His condition is better than before. I just hope he is eating well.
He looks thin, you know.
That said, have you started preparing for the banquet at Ataraxia? When you go shopping, let me know. I will try to make time and join you.
Anyway, the thing I wanted to say is that, actually, I don’t think we can meet up tomorrow. I have a bad headache, maybe because I spent too long under the sun, in the name of sunbathing at Abel’s place and I am a little feverish. Most of the time when I have a headache, I end up catching a fever as well. Just me and my sick health. It looks like we will have to reschedule.
Let us discuss further when we should meet later.
I am extremely sorry that we will not be able to meet. I was looking forward to it.
Stay safe. Tell the kids I love them and the duke that I said hi.
Yours,
Blue
Lying to my friend did not feel too good, but I had no choice. I need some time.
"Everything is okay with His Highness," the doctor said.
"Did you tell him everything?" I asked Dem.
"I am not a kid, Blue," Dem said.
I rolled my eyes. In front of a doctor, even a kid was more mature than him.
"Check her too," Dem said.
I did not argue and quietly let Doctor Dimitri check my health. If I argued, it would only cause me to lose my energy as Dem would not give up until he got what he wanted.
I realized he had always been like that. He liked to nag about everything and would not stop until I did what he wanted me to do. Going shopping basically alone was probably one of the few things I managed to do that he did not approve of.
Nothing was wrong with my health as well. I thanked Doctor Dimitri and he left, taking a peek at Dion in his crib. Doctor Dimitri was someone I trusted a lot during the war and he kept that trust rather well. I wanted to keep him by my side as long as possible.
"Abel asked how you are," I said when Dem and I finally retired to bed. Since Dion was in our room, we did not do anything else other than just innocently lay on the bed together.
"And?"
"Honey, you should come with me to meet him," I said, touching his hand. "He did not fail to protect me. Because he tried his best, he was taken there too. Please, Dem. He will feel good if you go too."
"… Alright."
"What’s wrong? You are in a bad mood?"
"No," he said and sighed. "I dozed off a little this afternoon."
"Ah, yes. Why? You could not sleep well? I tried not to wake you up," I said.
I even left this room with Dion so Dem could have a little bit of sleep. And when I came back two hours later, he was still sleeping without even changing his posture.
"I did sleep well. It’s just… I saw… the previous Queen," Dem said. "I kind of… Blue, I have never actually seen your father, did I?"
"No, you haven’t," I said. "None of you saw him, except for me and Cyan."
"In my dream, I saw a blue-eyed man. He had your face and he was… really… sick, I think. He was lying down and my mother was beside him," he said.
"… Did they talk about something?" Explore hidden tales at novelbuddy
"I am not sure. It all happened in a flash. Like I watched for a mere thirty seconds before it was gone. I started dreaming about something ridiculous next- some cockroaches dancing in my room. They were huge. And for some reason, Dion was dancing with them."
I tried to think of the possibility that Dem might be connected to his mother in more than one way. I could not think of that many things that would allow Dem to see what his mother was experiencing. Their relationship was not like mine and Cyan’s.
Cyan and I were twins and twins had a special bond. Because of that, we sometimes could experience what the other was experiencing even though we were far away. I could feel pain, pleasure, or whatever he was feeling as well as see what he was seeing. It was the same for him.
But Dem and his mother did not have that kind of connection. One thing popped into my head. What if it was because Dem’s mother once controlled Dem and she left a mark on him? Maybe even though she could not control him anymore, there remained a connection as she controlled him for like seven years. There was a possibility. I would not need to look into the books about this and also write to Evan.
He knew about these things more than me.
Dem did not have any dream like that again for the next three days. He could sleep well as well. I noticed when I ran my hand through his hair, he slept rather well. So, I did it every night and made him take naps. He was still weak, as he had been in a coma even kind of like a few days ago. His body needed time to recover.
I returned from a meeting and had just sat down in my office when a letter from Evan arrived.
"He used one of Your Highness’s birds," Perita said as she took freed the envelope from the bird’s leg and it flew away.
I still could not free the birds from my control. I had sent my letter using one of those birds because the bird of death, which was Dem’s bird, attracted too much attention. The bird I used was one of the smallest ones in the flock, so it did not attract that much-unwanted attention.
"That’s the one I sent to him," I said. "Open the envelope and give me the letter, Perita."
I unbuttoned the third button of my shirt as the first two were unbuttoned since the beginning for the sake of style which was basically showing a bit of my cleavage. I started feeding Dion, when Perita handed me the letter.
My dear friend Blue,
I hope you are well. I coincidentally know that your health is a lot better than before and you take enough rest. I should thank a certain person because of it.
How is Dion? You mentioned that he now makes sounds like ’a’ and ’o’. I wish I could see him. I bought a lot of gifts for him. I want to give them to him myself, but I still sent something small in the envelope. Make sure he has it on all the time.
You have to keep my word. After all, I am his godfather.
Anyway, the thing you asked about- well, I have read something like this before. Blue, you probably know that if a mage uses their power on something for a long time, it leaves a mark. For example, think about how we can trace black mana. We can trace them after black mana has been used in a certain place. Mages like Lord Luc can also trace mana.
If using mana only for a short time can leave enough marks to be traced, don’t you think using power on someone for a long time won’t leave a greater mark?
I don’t think it means they have some kind of connection between them. It is more like a scar, a reminder that something happened there, in his mind.
I only believe, not exactly sure as I don’t know how to prove my point, that the mark is just a reminder and nothing more. If I am right, his mother doesn’t even know that he is experiencing or, maybe experienced just once something like that.
That said, you did not tell me if he heard something in that dream or whatever it was. Did he hear something important?
Write to me soon. Take care of yourself. And yes, I am very much fine. Have you talked to your husband about coming here a month ago at least? Do talk to him and tell me in the next letter. Once again, take care.
Yours,
Evan
