Chapter 271: Chapter 271

[SAMANTHA’s Point of View]

Something was wrong. Very wrong.

I didn’t hesitate to shift back to my human form to check on the kids. I quickly threw on a pair of clothes that I brought with me and then rushed towards my twins, horrified to see them struggling to breathe.

“What’s happening?! Diana! Devon! What is happening!? Tell me!” My hands were shaking. No. My entire body began to tremble! Panic started to spread all over my head as I watched my children cough and choke as if something in the air was poisoning them.

“I have to take them away from here!” I blurted in panic. My eyes were wide in terror of losing them, and I started carrying Devon on my back while I held Diana in my arms. “I have to take them away!”

“No, Samantha! This is the only chance we have to destroy the Shadow Wolf King!” I heard Olivia scream at me in despair as she watched me turn my back on her and was ready to walk away from the place. “If you leave, the beast will destroy everything on its path! So many people will die, and it will be too late for all of us to stop him! You have to stay and let the kids help us defeat the monster, Samantha! It’s the only way!”

“She was right, Mom,” Devon whispered weakly in my ear as he held tight to my back. “We can’t leave. We have to stop him, or we will all die in here. You have to let me and Diana fight too.”

My heart started to drop in my stomach at what my son told me. My head was telling me to run. To take them away as far as I could and save them.  But my instinct told me that I had to let go of my twins and let them help me kill the awakening beast. I looked down at my daughter, and her eyes were teary as she gave me a slight nod, telling me that her brother was right. I had to let them go and fight.

“It’s okay, Mom. Devon and I can do it. You have to believe in us.” Diana said softly as she stared into my teary eyes. “You have to let us go.”

My throat was swelling, and I didn’t know what to say. I mean, how? How could I let them stay there when the air and the atmosphere in that place were hurting them? How could I let them fight when I knew this beast that we had to stop could kill all of us with a wave of its hand?!

But Diana was right. I had to believe in them. I had to believe that they could stop the beast and save the Silver Crescent Pack and their people. Their Family. I have to believe that they are strong enough to do it on their own. Everything that happened made them stronger.

They could do it.

They could do it.

I clenched my teeth. My eyes sharpened, and my mind focused. Olivia was right. If we don’t do this, we won’t have another chance for the apocalypse to stop it from happening. I had to let go of my twins and let them do their part.

And I was there to protect them.

“Okay...” I murmured and then glared at the dark mist that swirled around the Wolf Tomb. “Let’s kick some *ss, kids.”

Devon and Diana looked at me at the same time, and a wide smile pulled on their lips as I put them down and helped them regain their balance. It took them a couple of minutes to figure out how they could breathe more easily while we were inside the perimeter of the dark mist.

“We have to go inside. Now!” Olivia’s voice was hard and determined as she glanced at the kids. The pain was still etched on her face, and I knew she was trying her best not to break apart despite the agony she felt from the curse.

I followed Olivia while I made sure my twins were safe behind me. I could see how they tried to fight back the poison that was in the air with their purification spell while they covered their mouths and their noses with their jackets.

“It’s okay. Diana, Devon. Mommy will protect you no matter what. I will not let anything bad happen to you. I promise.”

Both of them nodded, and I was so proud to see their determination to fight.

My two little warriors. Putting the weight of the Pack’s safety on their small shoulders.

We went straight to the underground tunnel where the tomb of the Shadow Wolf King was placed. But before Olivia could even open the hatch, something like dark matter struck her stomach so powerfully that she flew away, several meters out from the entrance of the underground tomb of the Shadow Wolf King.

“OLIVIA!”

It happened so fast that I froze. I was shocked and saw how Olivia puked fresh blood as she tried to push herself from the dirt where she landed violently.

“Go!” she tried to scream something more, but the blood choked her throat. The dark matter that threw her suddenly came back from above. It landed on Olivia like dark mist. The twins and I flinched when the dark matter forced its way inside Olivia’s mouth. In her ears, nose, and tear ducts.

Terror brought goosebumps on my skin as I watched Olivia twitch and writhe as she tried to fight the dark matter from possessing her body.

“Mom! Let’s go!” 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Devon’s voice broke me out of the terror that petrified me. I felt my daughter’s hand grab my wrist as they guided me inside, like they had been to the place before.

Like they knew what was inside.

“We have to hurry!”

The three of us pushed our way into the stone stairways. Wind blasted us, like it was trying to throw the kids and me away. I did my best not to be knocked down by it and channeled all my strength into my feet and arms as I kept on stepping forward while the kids were behind me, trying to push me ahead as well.

“We’re almost there!” I screamed at them as I put my hand over my eyes and face. A bright purplish light glowed from the altar where the dark matter concentrated. The wind was so strong that I felt my knees and legs would give up.

“The wind is too strong! It is impossible for us to get anywhere near the altar!” Diana screamed at the top of her lungs.

I bit my lower lip. She was right. We couldn’t step forward anymore. The wind was pushing me away from the altar where the dark matter started to grow bigger. Bolts of purple lightning started to strike around the area, creating cracks on the floors, walls, and ceiling.

“If we are not going to do it fast, this whole thing will collapse!” It was Devon who screamed this time.

How? How are we going to go to the altar without being blown away by the violent wind that the dark matter created?!

Then, in a matter of seconds, I felt two familiar auras going towards us. In the blink of an eye, two muscular silhouettes appeared in front of me, shielding me from the strong winds.

“Dominic! Killian!” I shouted their names with a big smile, glad that they were still alive and had come for us!

Dominic looked at me from his shoulder. I saw that smile on his face, looking happy to see the twins and me as well.

“We will shield you from the winds.” Dominic’s deep voice made my heart beat fast as he looked towards the altar and focused on protecting the kids. “We will move forward now, Samantha!”

“Okay,” I said bravely as I grabbed Devon and Diana’s hands and kept them safe behind me.

Killian and Dominic fought the strong wind and stepped forward as fast as they could. I followed behind them cautiously until we managed to set foot in front of the altar, as near as we could.

But to our horror, we witnessed how the Shadow Wolf King stepped out from the dark matter. Its body materialized from the thin air as particles started to swirl around it like a 3D printer.

A growl escaped from my husband’s and Killian’s throats. We all felt the terrible power in front of us, making me and the kids tremble in fear.

“What an ugly thing,” Killian commented under his breath as he smirked, his eyes burning with anger as he growled. “We shouldn’t let that thing set foot outside this place. Hell will break loose if he ever sets foot on the Silver Crescent land.”

“You don’t have to remind me of that,” Dominic replied with gritted teeth as they still fought the strong winds and the dark aura that pushed them away from the altar. “I will kill that thing and end this!”

Without hesitation, Dominic shifted into his werewolf form and sprang towards the Shadow Wolf King. He didn’t wait for the thing to complete its transformation. Dominic’s long, razor-sharp claws connected to the face of the beast and made a long gash. The strong wind stopped after my husband hurt the monster, making me and Killian rush the kids towards the altar to start the purification ritual.

Devon was trembling so badly that he was having a hard time focusing on his powers. He was breathing fast. I had to go down on my knees so he could look me in the eyes and focus on me instead.

“Hey, hey, sweetheart. It’s okay. Your Dad, Uncle Killian, and I are here. We won’t let anything bad happen to you while you do this thing. I am just here, and I will never leave you and your twin sister’s side. Just breathe and do what you have to do to stop the monster. You and Diana are the only ones who can do it, my love. Your Dad and I believe in you. We always do.”

My words somehow calmed Devon as he stared into my eyes and then nodded bravely.

Devon and his sister began purifying the dark matter, which continued to grow larger with each passing second. I was scared. Scared to death if this would work. But Devon was right. I had to believe in them. I had to believe.

“NO!!!”

It was as if my whole world spun when I saw that my daughter’s back was slashed by something that I failed to follow.

“NO! DIANA!”

Everything seemed to slow down as I watched how blood gushed out of my daughter’s back. All the colors on my face drained as I jumped towards her.

To my surprise, Diana screamed at the top of her lungs, using all her strength to flood the dark matter with purifying energy, which blinded us all with a light so pure that I could only flinch.
