The Young master's fake bride and her lucky system-Chapter 277: A small pond that attracted a big fish.
Professor He appeared in Alix’s life unexpectedly. She was under the assumption that they would meet in an office somewhere but the professor showed up the next day in Alix’s class while she was teaching.
The system had already given Alix her information so she knew the professor’s face.
Having her there was a bit unnerving. It felt almost like she was having her teaching skills evaluated.
This was because she was sitting at the back, observing and taking notes.
"What is she writing down?" Alix asked herself.
Her curiosity caused her to be distracted momentarily that she lost track of what she was saying.
"Teacher, don’t make us wait anymore." one of the students shouted.
"Yes." A couple of voices joined in.
The class was filled to the brim, with one hundred sixty one students. Compared to the the past when she would have ten to fifteen students maximum, this was a big leap. And this was only for third year students.
"Right...." Alix shook herself out of the stupor she was in and gave all of her attention to the students. "I have been discussing with some of the other teachers and we have decided to emulate the system found in other music schools. Starting this year, we will be putting on a show every season.
Only the best of the best will get the chance to be leads, meaning first chair in any musical ensemble or orchestra will go to the student that works the hardest."
Quickly, a wave of murmurs and whispers went through the classroom.
"Quiet, I am still talking or don’t you want to hear the rest?" she loudly said.
Most of the noise in the classroom died down and so Alix continued on.
"We will be forming a violin ensemble and an orchestra, plus a quartet and a band. Those who are interested in the Song bird winter music festival can register on the school website and in two days, a list will be released showing which groups you belong to.
Now, I will not make you perform for free of course. We will be selling tickets and the best performing group will receive a monetary award at the end of the night. The leader or best performer in that group will receive a scholarship from the school."
An applause broke out before Alix could even finish the rest of the words. The monetary award promise was enough to excite them all.
She waited for half a minute as the students got all the premature excitement out of their systems before going on.
"Now, I do not want us to have any ugly experiences just because this is a competition. There will be no cutting of strings for different instruments or shoving each other down some stairs out of jealousy. I do not want you spreading rumors about each other in school or online. The teachers will be watching you all closely to keep the competition clean. Any student that engages in unbecoming behavior will be suspended or expelled."
Despite the chilling warning which she was giving them in a cold voice, Alix was quite worried that a few students would still go ahead to engage in such bad behavior.
She had seen it herself as a student and also lived it because Lin Billi sabotaged her in many ways until her fingers fractured and she stopped playing the piano.
"Do you have any questions?" she asked them.
About ten hands went up, including doctor He who Alix had no intention of picking. Why the hell was she actively participating when she wasn’t a student. What could she possibly have to say?
She picked one of the students instead, a female student from the front row.
"Teacher, is this for only third years or will we be mixed with second and first year students?"
"Every year will be putting on it’s own performance. This will also be an evaluation of your skills and a chance to be noticed. You never know who might be watching in the audience or what opportunities could be waiting." she smiled mysteriously.
She picked another student, a male whose name was hard not to know. He was Yang Wangshu, the best violin player in the school. He had transferred over from Gongzhu music conservatory.
Over the years, she had lost students to them thanks to Billi but she never thought that a day would come when they would lose a talented student to her.
Every time he saw her, he begged her to take him in as a disciple and she had no idea why. Either Billi had sent him to sabotage her or something else was going on. There was no other explanation for a third year student to drop out of one of the best music schools in the country and move to her small pond.
"Master..." he started.
Alix rolled her eyes and her head along with them. She had forgotten that he was also bold and shameless. Now, he was openly declaring her his master in front of the other students.
"How much is the monetary award for the lead chair in the ensemble?"
Someone at the front sighed and said, "As expected of the best violinist in the school. He just wants to know how much he will be taking home."
"There go my hopes of getting led chair." One girl wailed and her head fell on her desk.
Alix couldn’t console them either because if Wangshu was participating, he was getting lead chair, there was no doubt about it.
"As a group, it will depend on the number but between one hundred to one hundred fifty thousand yuan. The lead chair alone takes home a separate fifty thousand yuan and a scholarship worth one hundred eighty thousand yuan."
Someone whistled and excitement returned to the classroom. Many students literally had money signs in their eyes as they calculated how much they would take home.
Suddenly, one girl banged a fist on the desk and stood up. "I don’t care if you are the best Wangshu, I Jia Yi will face you head on."
Wangshu was also the most handsome boy among the third years, and also the most arrogant perhaps, because of his talent which earned him some haters in class. He and Jia Yi were like oil and water. Where he excelled naturally, she had to work two times harder to keep up.
Jia Yi was another talented student that had transferred in from Meihua Normal University. It was ranked one hundred second in Asia and six hundred seventy in the world when it came to teaching music. She was another student whose presence Alix couldn’t get her mind wrapped around.
What had brought her to this unknown little college?
She sighed when Jia Yi challenged Wangshu and the other smirked without confirming or denying.
"Teacher, does this mean Wangshu will get a solo?" Someone asked.
"In that case, I want to be first chair too."
"You are not even ranked among the best ten violinists in the class, sit down."
"Teacher, do second and third chair not get anything at all?"
Jia Yi was far from finished in pushing Wangshu off his presumed first chair position. "Teacher, Wangshu is not a good leader. First chair is not just about being the best player, they must guide others and point out what the rest of the section is doing wrong." She pointed at him and accused with her entire body, "That guy is a selfish player."
