The Young Miss Refuse To Love-Chapter 103: Pillow fight
Chapter 103: Pillow fight
While Song Chengfeng was enduring his mother’s usual nagging, Qi Jianyi and He Zeqing, on the other hand, were bickering like children.
At the He Family’s Mansion
"Why are you looking at me like that?" He Zeqing gulped nervously as he noticed the sharp glare Qi Jianyi directed at him. freёnovelkiss-com
Without warning, Qi Jianyi grabbed a cushion pillow beside her and angrily hurled it at He Zeqing. Her movement was so swift that the young president didn’t have enough time to dodge.
"Jianyi!" He Zeqing exclaimed, picking up the pillow that had just smacked him squarely in the face.
"Why are you suddenly attacking me?" he asked, his tone filled with grievance.
What’s wrong with Qi Jianyi? He hadn’t seen her in a while, and the moment they reunited, she attacked him and gave him an icy side-eye.
"Stop looking at me like I’m the bad guy," Qi Jianyi sneered as she flung another pillow.
This time, however, He Zeqing was prepared and managed to catch it mid-air.
Still bewildered about what he might have done wrong, He Zeqing decided to bite the bullet and ask, "Alright, alright, stop throwing things. What did I do?"
His calmness only seemed to fan her anger. "Oh, so now you want to play innocent?"
Before he could even process her words, Qi Jianyi grabbed the remaining cushions around her and mercilessly launched them at him one by one. Unfortunately for her, cushions were the only ammunition available.
Their heated exchange didn’t escape the notice of the elders in the kitchen. Mrs. Qi and He Zeqing’s mother, Aunt Fu, rushed out upon hearing He Zeqing’s raised voice.
After all, it was rare for him to raise his voice at all.
What greeted them was an amusing scene: a disheveled He Zeqing, surrounded by a mess of pillows, kneeling and pleading for forgiveness for a crime he didn’t understand.
Across from him sat Qi Jianyi, puffing her cheeks in anger, her fiery glare still fixed on him.
This unusual sight made both mothers’ expressions soften.
"Why are you two still fighting like children?" Aunt Fu said, quickly composing herself and stepping in to diffuse the tension.
She couldn’t help but find it amusing. These two cousins, who barely interacted as children, were now squabbling like toddlers despite being fully grown adults.
"Tell me, why are you two fighting?" Mrs. Qi echoed her sister-in-law’s question, her lips twitching as she struggled to suppress a laugh.
The lively banter between He Zeqing and Qi Jianyi had not only drawn the attention of their mothers but also piqued everyone else’s curiosity.
Grandpa He, who had been discussing business matters with Mr. Qi and Uncle He in the study, stepped out, curious about the sudden commotion.
Meanwhile, in the backyard, the twins and He Zejin were playing basketball. Through the clear window, they noticed their mothers standing in the living room, their expressions serious.
How could the three teens, bursting with curiosity, ever resist the chance to witness some juicy family drama?
Their enthusiasm for basketball evaporated instantly. Sharing a knowing glance, they quickly pieced together the situation: the two older cousins were fighting and now being scolded by their mothers.
Without missing a beat, they abandoned the game and rushed into the living room, eager to see how the spectacle would unfold.
Soon, everyone had gathered in the living room. Grandma He, who had been patiently waiting for her daughter and daughter-in-law to figure out the reason behind He Zeqing’s yelling, grew tired of waiting and decided to see for herself.
Once again, the sight that greeted her was both amusing and baffling. He Zeqing, kneeling with messy hair and a wrinkled shirt, while the instigator of the chaos sat elegantly across from him, her expression unbothered yet sharp.
"Mom, why don’t you ask my dear cousin what he did wrong?" Qi Jianyi said, addressing her mother, though her piercing gaze remained fixed on He Zeqing.
Her anger was far from subsiding. After all, who allowed this man to confidently inform Song Chengfeng’s mother about her existence? Because of him, she was now forced to dodge her parents’ questioning looks about Song Chengfeng and prepare for the possibility of being targeted by Mrs. Song.
The fact that Mrs. Song had sent over the bird’s nest as a gesture was proof enough that she had approved of her. Qi Jianyi wasn’t particularly concerned about whether the older woman approved or not—truthfully, being disapproved of seemed like the better outcome.
The real problem lay in dealing with Song Chengfeng’s affectionate gaze. She could barely tolerate that, let alone the idea of meeting Mrs. Song and facing another person’s expectations or fond looks. The very thought made her shiver with discomfort.
The room fell into a tense silence as everyone turned their attention to the victim. All eyes were on He Zeqing, who sat awkwardly in the middle of the gathering, his confusion growing with every passing second.
His frustration was evident as he ran a hand through his messy hair, sighing deeply. Finally, unable to bear the tension any longer, he glanced helplessly at Qi Jianyi.
"I really don’t know what I did wrong!" he exclaimed, his voice filled with frustration and grievance. "If I knew, I wouldn’t be kneeling here like this!"
Qi Jianyi’s expression hardened, and she let out a scoff. Her arms crossed over her chest as her cold gaze locked on He Zeqing.
There was no sympathy in her eyes, only sharp reproach. "Oh, you don’t know? Should I remind you? Let’s see—how about spreading private matters to someone else’s mother?"
Her words hit He Zeqing like a bolt of lightning. His eyes widened in shock as realization dawned on him. "Wait, you’re mad about that?"
The silence in the room grew heavier. He Zeqing opened his mouth to say something else but quickly shut it after meeting Qi Jianyi’s icy glare.
Though he still believed it was a small matter, he knew better than to argue further. After all, he had talked about something private to Mrs. Song.
"Well... I didn’t know he would tell you," he mumbled, his voice soft and uncertain.
Qi Jianyi’s lips curled into a mocking smile, but her anger was far from dissipated. Instead, she let out a short, bitter laugh.
Stretching out her hand, she pointed accusingly at him, her expression filled with a mix of disappointment and frustration.
"You are so unreliable!" she said sharply, her voice trembling with emotion.
"How can you call yourself the president of an entertainment company when you can’t even protect your cousin’s privacy?" she questioned coldly.
Her stern tone and the icy look in her eyes were enough to make the three teenagers nearby take an instinctive step back.
Even the adults in the room—parents and grandparents alike—chose to avoid her gaze. The initial plan to step in and help He Zeqing quietly dissolved.
Seeing how upset Qi Jianyi was, no one dared to intervene.
After all, it was clear He Zeqing had brought this upon himself. Who could blame Qi Jianyi for being upset?
However, the truth was more complicated. Qi Jianyi wasn’t nearly as angry about He Zeqing’s slip of the tongue as she seemed. The real reason for her frustration lay elsewhere.
She was too preoccupied with another pressing matter—avoiding Song Chengfeng’s mother, Mrs. Song.
Despite her cold and unyielding demeanor, Qi Jianyi had completely accepted the fact that her firm demeanor seemed to weaken against Song Chengfeng. Therefore, she hoped she wouldn’t meet his family.
Because what comes after seeing each other’s families are expectations—expectations that Qi Jianyi couldn’t offer.
She wasn’t ready to face them—no! She didn’t want to face them at all. Because facing them would mean that she had accepted Song Chengfeng’s feelings.
And accepting his feelings would come with consequences. The more Qi Jianyi thought about it, the more she despised herself.
Because deep down, she knew that what was happening between her and Song Chengfeng was nothing more than her toying with him.
She had always respected people’s feelings. As an author, Qi Jianyi prided herself on understanding emotions. She could easily pick up on people’s feelings, a skill that had helped her win Xu Yichen’s heart before.
She had sensed his quiet affection for her, and since she had felt the same, she made the first move, confident in the mutual understanding between them.
But it was different with Song Chengfeng.
Qi Jianyi knew, with painful clarity, that everything she was doing now would only hurt him in the future. Yet, despite knowing this, Song Chengfeng continued to stay by her side.
Instead of pushing him away firmly, she closed her eyes and allowed him to remain, her heart heavy with the weight of her indecision.
She did so out of selfishness—selfishness that she would regret deeply in the future.
"Jianyi, I...I’m sorry." He Zeqing stammered, his voice tinged with regret.
He lowered his head, the weight of his words sinking in as he apologized. He never imagined that his actions, which he thought would trouble Song Chengfeng, would end up causing problems for his cousin instead.
For once, the young president found himself at a loss for words. He didn’t know how to ask for forgiveness, nor did he know how to offer any comfort to a woman.
All he could do was lower his head, accepting the blame for his mistakes.
Qi Jianyi refocused her attention on He Zeqing, realizing only then that she had been scolding him moments ago before her thoughts wandered.
"It’s fine, cough..." Qi Jianyi began to speak, but before she could finish her sentence, a sudden cough interrupted her.
It caught her completely off guard, and she quickly covered her mouth while slowly patting her chest.
