This Life, I Will Be the Protagonist-Chapter 1171: Why Not Copy Me?
Rita sat on the roof of her house. She did not rush to check her mailbox. Instead, she replayed the previous battle in her mind, calming herself down, while her right hand casually flicked a coin high into the air again and again.
As the coin flipped, she happened to see the scene of herself opening GodDraw77 for the first time in Binast.
That year seemed just like this. Right when the show was about to begin, she was forced to leave, just like now.
She regretted that she had not yet decided a winner with QM Rita, and also regretted that she had not destroyed a few more Order Badges.
On the surface, it looked like a draw, maybe even a slight win, since she had forced Quiet Mountain to step in personally.
Yet she still felt unwilling to accept it. Even if Wildfire Reignited could not be activated again, she still wanted to keep fighting instead of being passively removed.
She liked clear victories and defeats, clear relationships.
She was not only reviewing the final battle, but also reflecting on the insights she gained from this entire game.
She had always thought that Romantic Deviation referred to BS, but only when this Quiet Mountain game ended did she suddenly realize that Romantic Deviation was not just describing how she had pushed BS off its original course. It was also describing herself.
B80 lay nearby hugging a power bank and charging. Nivalis was eating a three star dish to recover stamina. Using the fusion skill had not been much of a burden on Rita, but Nivalis herself was struggling to keep up with such high intensity combat now. She suddenly shouted,
"Mistblade is first place?!"
Rita opened the ladder rankings.
Sure enough, first place was no longer Nuclear Flash NightFury.
It was the only tier nineteen.
Mistblade, BS, Moon Fox, tier nineteen Overlord, Blood Snowfield.
Rita opened the battlefield chat channel. She had to admit, Starsea players really talked a lot. Even at a time like this, they could still chat.
"TingoAutumn Deer: I cannot take it. Why is BS Rita’s teacher so domineering? It is not like I refused to leave. I even wanted to say a few words to my mom before going."
"TingoJE: Say what, swear words?"
"TingoJE: When you called it mother, did you not notice how disgusted it looked at you?"
"BS Smoke Tune: How are you all managing to chat while fighting? Is the pressure from Quiet Mountain players not high enough?"
"TingoJE: Nope, because I already died and came back."
"TingoAutumn Deer: Do not worry. Winter Sea Frenzied Shark is keeping you company. When I left, he was already gone. QM Frenzied Shark saw Winter Sea Frenzied Shark and went berserk. All top tier skills activated, one full combo, straight to the grave."
"Winter Sea Frenzied Shark: Will you die if you do not talk?"
"BS Smoke Tune: Where is Cicada?"
No one replied. That was the last new message.
Clearly the battle had reached a critical point. Those still fighting had no time to chat. Only players already out could talk.
At this moment, there were definitely many players watching, but no one spoke. Everyone was waiting for someone near the center of the battlefield to say something between clashes, or for someone close enough to comment.
Another seven minutes passed before new messages finally appeared.
"Lania Kaia Wither: We lost. Completely."
"Lania Kaia Wither: The most humiliating part is that they killed Dawn Cicada, Tiger Ear Kessa, Fury Prayer, BS Crab, Isolated Isle Lightchaser, Isolated Isle Ash Cinders, and BS Mistblade, but did not kill us. They stopped and said they would let us stay in Quiet Mountain and play for a few more days."
"Lania Kaia Wither: I would rather have died by their hands. Looking at it this way, QM Maple Syrup was really considerate. She gave SS Maple Syrup a clean end."
"TingoJE: No Nuclear Flash NightFury? Was she not there too?"
"Lania Kaia Wither: Maybe because Quiet Mountain players also want to know the answer."
"TingoAutumn Deer: What is wrong with her?"
"Lania Kaia Wither: Did we not figure out before that Quiet Mountain copies Starsea players at certain nodes, related to their pain? She kept calling out to Quiet Mountain. She wanted to ask why Quiet Mountain did not copy her."
"Black Spring Loath: I was not copied either. It is kind of annoying. Even Mojie got copied. So many in the top hundred of the ladder did not."
Rita thought to herself. No. Nuclear Flash NightFury was definitely not asking for some kind of honor, nor for her own pride or vanity. She was asking about her pain.
Why not copy me?
Am I not in enough pain?
Is my pain not enough to move you?
No one knew how long it took, or how long Nuclear Flash NightFury kept asking. In the end, she finally got an answer.
"Lania Kaia Wither: Quiet Mountain replied."
"Lania Kaia Wither: It said, ’But Quiet Mountain does not have that many NightFurys for you to eat.’"
Rita closed the battlefield chat channel.
That sentence probably hurt Nuclear Flash NightFury more than being killed.
She looked toward the horizon. Pine Bloom was there.
Rita nodded to greet her, then withdrew her gaze and continued flicking the coin in her hand.
Pine Bloom sat down beside her. Her first words were not, as she had said earlier in the chat, about settling accounts with BS Rita after returning to BS. Instead, she said,
"What price do I need to pay for you to teach me how to fight?"
After returning, she had been watching the battlefield chat channel the entire time.
Earlier, when the battlefield chat grew quiet, it was because the most talkative players were busy fighting. But before that, when BS Rita was fighting ten Quiet Mountain players alone, those idle players like BS Crab, TingoJE, and Winter Sea Frenzied Shark had been doing a full text live broadcast.
Revenge on BS Rita? Not happening. Whoever said that would have to answer to her.
Nivalis still had cake in her mouth. Hearing this, her eyes widened instantly. Data light flickered in B80’s eyes too. The two were clearly enjoying the spectacle.
After all, when they came out to enjoy the sun, Lidian was downstairs in the study playing games.
Rita laughed and asked in return, "What price can you offer to buy my time?"
"Cooperation between Oak Owl and BS."
"That is something BS councilors should worry about. And..." Her eyes shifted slightly as she looked at Pine Bloom and said softly, word by word, "How to integrate into BS is also something Oak Owl should be worrying about right now."
Pine Bloom’s breath caught. She sensed the change in BS Rita.
A very troublesome kind of change.
She no longer placed BS matters above everything else. Bringing benefits to BS was no longer enough to easily move her. Now, she placed her own needs first.
But this was the most normal change imaginable.
Because now, her existence itself was BS’s greatest asset. As long as she was there, BS no longer needed to curry favor with any faction. Instead, others needed to approach BS proactively.
The current BS Rita no longer had BS Adjudicator as a title that could be placed before her name.
Even though Adjudicator was such a special title, unique within Uncharted Star Sea, how could it compare to the name BS Rita?
